(the remix especially - is that an actual song? Cos it should be on the album! Too good not to use)

No that isn't actually a song. Just something i did when i was messing around. Uploaded it onto my soundcloud because i thought it was cool. haha

Recording quality is superb

Thanks heaps dude. My recording/mixing and mastering skills have seriously improved in the last 2 years. Still got lots to learn but!!

2 discs worth is a lot of room to try all kinds of sounds, moods, dynamics etc

That's exactly what we've done mate. As we have such a varied range of influences from loads of different genres, there is a lot of different kinds of songs spanning the 2 cds. But really all i can do is let the album speak for itself once its out!  :D

And for the folks who think we sound alot like Opeth. I guess all I can say is thanks, as they are a great band. But for us Opeth has not really been much of an influence at all on this album. But i can understand why some of you might think that considering our progressive nature and mixture of vocal styles and dynamics.  8)

Western Australia / NEW NOCTIS TRACK!
« on: December 17, 2010, 10:57:14 AM »
Hey ya'll,

For all interested, I have been working hard most of this year recording, mixing and mastering the new Noctis double album "Silent Atonement" due to be released next year.  So we thought it was time we uploaded a track to give you an idea of what this album will bring. The track we have decided to share is called "Anyone Else" and was the last Noctis song to be written and recorded. It is quite different from what we've done before and shows a side of Noctis that has not been heard yet. Due to the album consisting of 2 x discs roughly 50mins long each, we will share with you another track from the album in the coming weeks. It will be a track showcasing the heavier side of Noctis.

So without any further ado, please enjoy Anyone Else.

great new Blakey boy. Perth needs a proper Death/Doom band. Unlike Noctis which is barely death metal at all.

Sorry but i still read it as "since not ALL of the members are tools" which indicates to me Darren has an issue with us. I could say more to why i think this but I'd rather not air that out on a public forum. Because that would be rather inappropriate and unnecessary. If Darren has a problem with myself or another member of Noctis he has been given open invitation to talk about it to me privately. Because I personally have nothing against Darren or his opinions. Each to their own I say!

I just wanna set the whole sounding like opeth thing straight. Back when i wrote For Future's Past, i was in high school and i was heavily influenced by Opeth and Katatonia. Thus why i guess a lot of people can draw the obvious comparisons between us.

Yep Opeth was/still is a big influence

As for our new material, I've written majority of the music this time with a lot of Alex and Simone's input. I cant speak for what bands influence them with the new stuff. But i personally was not influenced by Opeth in writing the new material. Its more a collection of 70s Progressive Rock, Doom, Alternative, Acoustic, Jazz and Ambient music. In fact most of my influences aren't metal at all.

especially since not all of the members are tools, but I guess since the subject has already been broached...

Its cool your not a fan of Opeth or Noctis man not gonna hold that against ya. But sound to me like you've got a personal problem with some of us. Firstly i would just like to know what "subject has already been broached"? I mean if you have a something you'd like to talk about feel free to PM me and we shall talk about it. I find it really concerning to hear you think some of us are "Tools".

Dan the first and only rule i reckon you should follow when writing music is to not listen to anybody's personal opinions. Just write whatever comes out and people either like it or not. It may sound similar to something you have been listening to but to deliberately try to sound different from what is coming out of you naturally is to deny yourself... that may or may not make sense

haha don't have to tell me man, i don't really care if people think we sound like opeth. They are an awesome band and to be compared to them is quite an honour. But personally i don't really consider opeth as much of an influence on me these days, there is a treasure trove of great music out there that gives me much more inspiration then opeth does now days.

haha Australia has been pumping out prog bands since the hayday back in the 70s.
bands like,
Arena, Bakery, Sebastian Hardie, Freeway, Spectrum, MacKenzie Theory, Windchase, Ayers Rock, Rainbow Theatre and lets not forget where Daevid Allen came from, the well known singer/song writer for the band Gong and the co founder of Soft Machine.

haha i agree, for someone who is soooo keen to offer their opinion. Why not do it properly and point out exactly what bands you've seen and exactly what it is about them you dont like.

At the end of the day it says alot more about you "Queef" then any of the bands you claim are "shit"

and the ISP to kill feedback and generally keep the amp quiet.  Better through the input then?

if you want to keep the amp quiet your better off running the noise suppressor through the loop. As in removing noise after the preamp.

wouldnt it make the most sense to have your Tubescreamer in the input and your noise supressor in the fx loop? so your gaining up before you preamp for more breakup and supressing the extra noise that follows the preamp? no?

i agree after seeing some dvds and live clips of them that they don't really do a very good job of pulling off their music live. I guess because they cram so many layers onto their cds it doesn't really have the same impact when they try and play it live.

that to me is the main problem behind over production. Music should be able to be translated live with little to no effect to the song's feel and sound. Sepultura and even Pantera, with only 1 guitar are the masters of this. I reckon Pantera live actually sounds better than their records. Thats what makes a truly great band in my opinion.

i understand your point but i'm of the opinion that band like Pantera and Sepultura although have good songs they don't have any depth in thier records. Bands like Katatonia and Porcupine Tree that put alot more into there music have depth because you can listen to the same song several times and still be surprised by what sounds you can find within the mix that you didnt hear the first few listens. Whether a band can pull it off live is another thing, porcupine tree hasnt had a problem with this for years.

Thus making the music a mucch more interesting listen IMO. But each to their own, i really enjoy Last Fair Deal Gone Down, its one of my favourite Katatonia albums but in saying that Katatoina is one of the bands that is constantly progressing from album to album. At first i didnt really like Great Cold Distance but it quickly grew on me this new song to me sound just like a natural progression from the last album. I like it!

I think the reason they havre trouble live is due to the fact their drummer can't play in time live.

i really enjoyed it, i agree its a lot heavier sounding but still quite emotional. Has alot of that magical Katatonia sound which is undeniable. Can't wait to hear the rest of the album!!
