More people in the crowd.

ALL gigs are better when all of your friends are there. Its the punters who make the night great!

Musician Connection / Re: Being a Musician is too expensive..
« on: November 30, 2011, 05:34:43 AM »
Interesting comment, given that its cheaper than ever to buy gear these days - with our strong dollar, tougher competition and cheaper quality gear being made.

That's not to say that cheaper stuff cannot be found overseas (See Ru's post) thanks to a very different playing field, but if you are able to buy online to get the cheaper deal, then you could argue that the 'cheaper gear for Aussies' issue is ALREADY solved.

It also means you'll be putting Aussie retailers (most of whom are muso's, like myself) out of work - But at least we'll all save on our next pair of strings, right? ;)

Yeah we get that alot! We didnt really write the Ep with vocals in mind but the album we are currently working on will have a few tracks with guest vocals, one of them being Rich from Vespers Descent  Smiley
Drew, let me be the first to warn you - For as long as your band is together, people are going to continually tell you that you need a singer. It will be unavoidable. :)

Ive always found that a 'good gig' is 99% to do with the crowd anyway - and if a band can whip them up, its the vibe of the crowd that will bring people back to watch that band.

Western Australia / Short soundbyte of Evolution Machine's Upcoming EP...
« on: October 17, 2011, 08:25:44 PM »
Here is a 20-second "sneak-peak" at what Evolution Machine has been working diligently on over the past 3 months. No vocals recorded as of yet - Comments/suggestions from our supporters are WELCOME and please accept this as a quick "thankyou" to the wonderful people who have braved the elements to come and support us since our inception.

At this point the EP should be ready by Summer 2011. Updates (and perhaps more sneak previews!) to follow

Some people take things way too seriously on the internet....

Perth Metal scene has been going slowly downhill since say 2006 when there used to be 2-3 gigs a week by top quality bands at top quality venues and frequent all age gigs. Naturally WF has died with it (lull is a bit of an understatement).

The scene has gone through many changes. Some of the older folk on here would say that things were much better in 95 than they were in 2006.
I think with many venues closing their doors to original bands over the past 3 years, it has been hard to organize gigs that punters would want to come to, keeping in mind that many metalheads (and punters in general) are working longer hours and for less money - often to the point where they cannot be bothered going to a local show.

There have also been a lot of touring acts recently taking punters money!

Ive always found that the best gigs aren't necessarily to do with the quality of the bands but the type and size of the crowd. If the crowd is good, people entertain themselves and the bands are just the icing on the cake.

There are in fact some great venues opening their doors to local original music lately, but sadly the punters are the ones not sensing the appeal of it all. I think every band plugging themselves to death on Facebook has also created a punter mentality to ignore.

I didn't know that you and Gareth knew each other.

I lent him a drum throne once or twice at a gig, but dont know him personally.
We did a lot of shows around the same time around the same bands, so I'm definitely aware of him and have seen him play quite a few times with Infected.

... I think!

Long-ass time ago.
