Peaceville Records is proud to announce the signing of Finnish prog death metallers, Barren Earth. With a line-up consisting of former members of prog/folk metal legends Amorphis, as well as current members of Swallow the Sun, Moonsorrow & Kreator, the band has been busy recording their debut album at the renowned Seawolf Studios in Helsinki, with the tracks currently being mixed by Dan Swan? (Katatonia/Opeth/Novembre).
An EP is due November 2009, with the album currently scheduled for an early 2010 release.

The music of BARREN EARTH combines elements of modern and traditional death metal, with 70's prog rock and folk. Among the band's influences are artists such as Paradise Lost, Opeth, Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull and also some pioneers of Finnish prog.

Mikko Kotam?ki ? Vocals (Swallow The Sun)
Olli-Pekka Laine ? Bass (Ex-Amorphis, Mannhai)
Kasper M?rtenson ?Keyboards (Ex-Amorphis, Ben Granfelt Band)
Janne Perttil? ? Guitar (Rytmih?iri?)
Marko Tarvonen ? Drums (Moonsorrow)
Sami Ylisirni? ? Guitar (Kreator, Waltari)

On signing to Peaceville:

?Getting signed by Peaceville Records is a great honour, as they are one of the very few metal labels left who have a passion and feeling for the music they release. To us, it also feels like coming home, because in a way they carry a big responsibility for BARREN EARTH?s existence by having released the most important albums from pioneers such as Autopsy and Paradise Lost. Those albums played a huge role, when we sucked our musical mother?s milk in the late 80?s and early 90?s. This is a fact that should be noticeably evident in Barren Earth?s sound and music. Hopefully BARREN EARTH will also be able to add a fresh spin to Peaceville?s already impressive roster?.

- Olli-Pekka Laine

sounds like an interesting combination of influences and musicains. Sounds pretty good from the myspace clips.

Guys, Ill simply say it like this:

Have enough confidence in your music to not feel threatened by someone else's opinion of whats good or not.

I disagree with Queef quite often, but you know what? Thats okay. I'm still writing the music I love, playing 2-3 nights a week, and enjoying my CD collection just as much - as Im sure Queef does too.

You think Queef is an arrogant know-all bastid? Try dealing with some of the band booking agencies around town... I can guarantee you, he's pale in comparison.

well said Damo.

this thread is funny, doesnt take much to get alot of you guys angry. This queef dude is clearly a insecure tool. Rise above the childishness.

i find that the EQ on my GH100L is very subtle. which can be handy if you like things kept simple.
Pretty sure the gain is exactly the same on the VH100R to the GH100L but dont quote me on that. I agree with Richard but the Laney is has quite of lot of mid in the tone. Which is exactly what you'll need to cut and hear clear notes.

really heavy "Clean" distortion is the result of several low gain stages. Thats how expensive High gain amps do it as far as i know

Chris from nails of imposition uses a VH100R im pretty sure with just a boost pedal and it sounds pretty farken brutal

i thought he was using a GH100L with a Vox Tonelab? or am i thinking of someone else?

If theres one thing Laney amps seem to love its pedals. Stick them in front of it, in the FX loop. They just lap them up.

I've got a Laney GH100L the gain channel on that can get quite heavy but its not really a "metal" sound more of a hard rock/Doom metal kinda sound. Think Sabbath

Havent tried the VH100R so cant really comment, but id assume it wouldnt be too different just more gain. Depends on what kind of sound you want. Im sure the VH100R would do the trick for brutal stuff, just push the mids and crank the gain.
