Musician Connection / Noctis require keyboard player
« on: April 27, 2009, 08:40:58 PM »
Noctis have had to part ways with their keyboardist Liam and are now looking for someone to help us fill out our lineup. We are influenced by Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Katatonia, Daylight Dies, Camel,  Anekdoten, Yes, Swallow The Sun,  Dredg, Novembre, Green Carnation and many more

We are currently about to record a full length cd and are at the stage of putting finishing touches on songs,  so we need someone who can not only perform well in a live environment but also can help us with song writing and arrangements. We are looking for someone who is dedicated and generally on the same wavelength as the rest of the band.
All applicants must have good gear and transport.

Musician Connection / Alternative/Metal band looking for Bass Player
« on: April 25, 2009, 03:53:42 PM »
We are a newly formed band consisting of singer, guitarist Talia Hardaker (ex-Slowlight),  guitarist Daniel Mazzarol (Noctis) and newcomer drummer Blake Holloway.  Our influences "Alice In Chains, Porcupine Tree, Katatonia, Black Label Society, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath, Opeth, Free, Jeff Buckley.. and more"

Looking for someone dedicated, easy going, likeminded person with similar influences and tastes in music. Must have relatively good gear or be willing to get good gear. Transport is a must!

We jam north of the river and are at a very early stage in the band so we are still writing and working on songs, hope to be gigging within 6 months.
We are currently looking a likeminded person to play bass in a new band.

what's the faceless album like? - havent heard em yet but heard good things...what are their influences?

Umm they are quite a good band, sounds to me like a more melodic version of Necrophagist. Has a bit of Cynic influence in parts. They arent really my cut of tea but they arent too bad.

Anyone who rags on a strat hasn't played one.

Guitars for grownups.

Fuck oath. They might not be the most interesting guitars to look at but the feel and tone is awsome.

I never said I did listen to bands that are classified under a certain subgenre.
I just think it's ridiculous that people call this band prog.

Quote
I'd say these points make them progressive, but if you look at progressive metal as something that is all about cramming as many odd time signatures, tempo changes, and guitar solos in each song as possible then no, they're not progressive.

Yeah see there ya go, you're probably thinking prog metal, not prog rock.

They've probably been labelled prog due to their music being hard to classify anyway.

people seem to forget theres a massive difference between prog rock and prog metal. Alot of metal bands that get labelled in the prog catagory arent really true prog metal. But they have more of a prog rock influence.

a good example would be Enslaved.

i can hear the prog rock influences they have in their music. I wouldnt get worked up about it

Damn, I'm a drummer whos been wanting to start up something along the lines of Devin Townsend, Katatonia, Alice in Chains, (ie blues/melancholic)  but Ive just given up drumming to focus on uni.

Do it man. like i always tell ya

DONT GIVE UP THE DREAM!!

trust me man, i know what its like having a full on uni. cyanide_christ  is going through it right now and hes playing in Chaos Divine and hes about to go on a big tour.
Its possible to do both at once.

You can always find time for bands dude.

I guess I see it kinda like this:
Good promo gets you opportunities
Good songs ensure the bands longevity, provided the band members dont kill eachother first.

Discussion over?
