Blind Guardian 2011 Tour Syd/Melb only
« on: May 17, 2011, 09:36:02 PM »
Woo miss out on it last time but I'm definitely going this time round!

BLIND GUARDIAN TOUR 2011

The biggest Power/Melodic Metal band in the world is returning to Australia for two shows only! Performing to an all age show in Sydney for the very first time ever on Friday 30th September 2011 and then heading to Melbourne for their last show in Australia on the 3rd of October 2011, this will be MUST SEE experience and a compulsory event on your calendar.

Performing tracks off their recent smashing chart topping album, ?At The Edge Of Time' and playing the fan favourites stemming back from 1988 until now, there is no other live show like BLIND GUARDIAN. Supported by Australia's premiere power metal band, ?Black Majesty' along with Australia's premiere Power/Prog act, ?Eyefear', coincidentally marking that acts new album release, this will not be another live show where band members stand around a stage, this will be an experience that will be etched into your memories forever and a day.

If you missed them last time around, DO NOT miss them this time; you may just miss your last opportunity to see BLIND GUARDIAN in Australia!

Tickets:

http://www.metalmassacre.com.au/

Cheap tickets, now to book a flight and hotel room..

Anyone know much about the venues over there, like which one is likely to be better? Not been to either city before.  Was swinging more towards the melb side since its not all ages.. but either is fine i guess.
May my weary soul find release for a while, at the moment of death I will smile.

Not that I give two shits about Blind Guardian, however...

Go to Melbourne, not Sydney. Fucking horrible place.
My hands are choking, my knife is broken.
An orgasm is what I need.
Your blood is spilling, the sight is thrilling.
To cum I need to see you bleed.

They're playing Melbourne on the same day Soundwave is in Perth.

Bit dubious, nothing on their official website yet:
http://www.blind-guardian.com/tour/

I heard last time they played two different sets, both shows were in Melbourne though...

Yup, it is indeed. So BG are playing Sydney on 30th Sep then Melb on 3rd Oct, according to the info above.
Wish they would just jump on the soundwave tour instead...

B.G were amazing last time, and i went to see them the night after seeing Suffocation live, so whether they were good or not was of little concern haha...but they ended up being so damn sick, was crazy. Still in the top five best live bands i've seen, easy.

anyone here good with booking flights and such? I havent done too much travel but was looking at going to the melbourne show and I cant seems to find much out about bookings and such. Is there any good websites/businesses i should look at first? (flight centre had 2 nights+ flights for 565.. thought was pretty steep!

I'm not sure about accommodation in Melbourne but when I book flights to and from Sydney I always go through webjet to get a comparison between the airlines and the prices. Then I decide who I'm going to fly with then book through their website directly. Don't book through Webjet otherwise you will be charged an unnecessary $30 administration fee.

Woops - i didn't fully read the original question!

For flights:

As Bailey suggests, use Webjet (or alternatively http://au.skyscanner.com/ or BOTH) to determine the cheapest flight option over, then go direct to the airlines website and book from there.

Stick with Qantas / Jetstar / Virgin. DON'T fly tiger - there's no guarentee you'll get there (even if they get back in the air post this "grounding" business which they are currently embroiled in)!

For accommodation:

Best is to have a good mate over there to stay with (like i will be doing for this show) - accommodation cost = Carton ;D

Failing that:

Use these websites to scope out various accommodation options:

www.expedia.com.au

www.hostelworld.com

http://www.wotif.com/

From time to time, hotels do deals and/or have reduced rates if you stay for more than 3 days at a time or so. Find something you think is ok then go here to check other travellers reviews of the joint:

www.tripadvisor.com.au

My general rule is that cheapest is not always best - why save $10 a night to stay in an utter shithole when you can pay just a little bit more and stay somewhere ok / decent?!

I wouldn't go for the bog-standard "flight and hotel" package offered by travel agents like flight centre. From what i understand they don't make much $ in the booking of flights etc - the $ for them is in the hotel references / bookings as they will always suggest you stay at a hotel that they are affiliated with (and thus get kickbacks from for doing so). You will want to scope out your accommodation yourself as well as the hotel that they suggest may be MILES from the gig etc so you have to factor in travel costs (taxis etc). The best choice is to stay somewhere both close to the gig AND central or a happy medium...

Bear in mind that the knucklehead promoters of this gig have put it on the SAME WEEKEND AS THE AFL GRAND FINAL, so i wouldn't dally regarding organising accommodation or flights. When i booked (flights) a month ago, ALL the cheap tickets were gone - there were only a handful of medium price (which i used a HEAP of frequent fliers to offset the cost of) and of course plenty of full fare / business seats available. Expect to pay $400 - $800 return!!  :o

And for good reference metal reference:

TCHUSS! ;D

In Sydney, without going back and checking, they played at least one song from every album, except Forgotten Tales. A really good mix of old and new.
