Playing F.E.A.R. at the moment. Awesome game. Possibly the best first person shooter I've played ever. Heaps of detail put into the game (e.g. when you shoot cardboard or similair materials dust blows into the air, when you take out a enemy as their dying they're still aimlessly fiiring their weapon everywhere sometimes injury your character and leaving bullet holes in the area. It's the first person shooter that I've played that has excessive swearing. E.g. When you start engaging fire with the enemy, they say stuff like 'Oh, shit' and 'Fuck, he's here' and 'Shit, grenade'.

The big draw card in the game in the bullet-time feature. It's must useful when you fire the shotgun at the enemy and see him flying into the wall while he's still firing his weapon.

You need a hot-shit computer to run it though because of this advanced graphics engine. The creators put a great amount of detail into the game.

I fucking concur. Postal 2 owns anything hands down. Besides some of the annoying loading times, I haven't played anything as radical as Postal 2. It's got everything! Swearing, public urination, napalm, shovels, tazers...and cat silencers.

Post by: Archangel on February 23, 2006, 05:00:11 PM
haha, ROMS kick ass!! i played a double dragon marathon.  They make those games FUCKING hard hey.  There is this mint game on megadrive called chakken.. an undead zombie come back to avenge his killers with two big mofo swords and some evil magic... i have been playing it since i was 11 and i still can't clock it... i've busted the catridge so many times in blind fury.  Honestly if anyone can clock it and at LEAST send me a screen shot i will buy u a carton..or host a keg party. It is ridiculous that game.

I just ordered the new leisuresuit larry uncut off ebay.  haha..used to feel so naughty playin that when i was a kid.

Chakken hey? If you have a ROM of it for the DGen, send it my way and I'll reply with a screen shot, no problems. Sega games fucking rock, but its much more fun playing it with the real console. I do have a heap of Megadrive ROMS (800+) but I'd rather dust off the old Megadrive and play it oldschool way. Sega Rally on the Saturn was my favourite drinking game though. Me and my mates used to tape down the accel button and just steer on unlimited laps/time and just carve up for hours upon hours, with the control in one hand and a beer or bong in the other, metal blaring, eyes blurry. Was fucking awesome fun.

A few years ago the IDSA demanded that we remove a number of intellectual copyrights from the site. We met their demands. Today, the IDSA, now known the ESA, demanded the removal of seven additional properties. By their demand, the following intellectual properties are no longer available for download on ROMNation.NET:

Brute Force
Final Fantasy
Metroid
Oddworld
Tekken
Ultimate Fighting Championship
Wario

It IS a bit complicated.  U need a emulator first.  Google one if u can, otherwise i'll burn my lot on CD and bring em to camping.  I love old school too. I have original Chakken.. u CANNOT beat it, i don't care what anyone sez, i am kick ass at games, and i admit defeat..

There not called freeware, freeware is a different license.
There dubbed Abandonware if the company doesn't renew copyright and licenses on the games.

http://www.the-underdogs.org/

This is by far the best abandonware site ever

..and on that day, the skies were spilt in twain, thus forth a gaming thread was issued among the mortals, and lo! The mortals did rejoice, and the electronic embraces of challenge, imagination and participation didst rain hard from the skies upon them. Ha. Hails to archangel for starting the thread, i personally shall aim to keep this one alive, lest it be renamed and be wrathful in its resurgent vehemence. And stuff.  :)

Thine Hated, 'rom me up' man, ive got a working emulator and am searching for more roms.. a couple old favourite roms from my A500 days dont work unfortunately, namely Moonstone, and It Came From The Desert 'Antheads'.. probably some more too.. if theres any way anyone can help out or is looking to trade roms etc then post away, or preferably pm me with more concise details.. Also, if anyone can explain to me how to create a hard drive for amiga using the emulator or other tools would be appreciated.

Other stuff for my wishlist, working Killer Instinct and Killer Instinct 2 MAME roms, and any emulators or roms etc (or anything to do with) Neon Genesis : Evangelion, id be very grateful.

HA! ill believe that when i see it. Though granted, i would consider myself largely out of practice, and never had a nintendo of any sort to practice on.. so you just may gringo-san.. you just may..

And Darren, indeed they did!! Hard as fuck though.. my choice goes to Last Ninja 2, 3 just went totally nuts.. but the whole series has the most kick ass tunes ever.. so many fantastic old amiga games with killer music.. Anyhting by "The Bitmap Brothers" Speedball 2000, Xenon 1 & 2, Gods, Chaos Enigine.. and then other stuff like Turrican 1 & 2, Skate or Die haha, the list goes on..

Unfortunately we only had a poorly C64, and a tape deck for a good while  :-/ before finally getting a disk drive. So many classic games, like The Last Ninja ones, Barbarian (purely for the decapitation), Spy Hunter, Defender of the Crown, Aliens (the good version), Gauntlet, Ghostbusters, Impossible Mission (aptly named, but good just for the digitized speech / screams), BC Bill (hah!), Rampage, Ninja.. and yeah, the list goes on. :P

I also have a working Killer instinct for snes rom ;D
And yes any bitmap brother game Pwns, Speedball 2000 fuckin owns i play that when i am bored all the time  ;D

Fuck yes! I had a commodore 64 until it died last year :( it lasted longer then the power pack to my A500 and my A1200 cpu lol I think all of them games (and there incredible loading time :P ) were so much more entertaining then todays games.

My folks would still have a couple of c64s and the pile of games at their place.. and yeah, gameplay beats graphics any day.
What was annoying though was when you'd see the cover for a game and you'd think man that must be awesome.. then you see the actual graphics/game play and be hell let down. Or when there was a game of a great movie or something and they made it into a rubbish game.  :-/

Ohhhhh the nostalgia.. i have in my living room, thanks to Noctvn, a working C64, and a bunch of great games also.. my old 64 was sold many a year ago, I dont know where or if i even have my old 600+ games for the Amiga, yet i think i actually have two A500's, (or is one a 600? i forget, if i have either of them..) but no working power packs.. can someone sell me one? Or is anyone a smart ass electrician able to frankenstein one up for me? Dont know the exact specs, and its a long shot..

Deceptive covers, Horrible movie to game conversions, Digitized speech, Ultra awesome Midi+ music, possibly the best Aliens game yet, apart from AVP2 pc, and AVP arcade, which i have a great MAME rom for :) Barbarian, sooo many more, all memories from the superb Commodore era.. ;D

Fear not, ancient comrade, i can help scholar you in the arts of historic gaming.. I can equip thee with a fossilic "Amiga" emulator program and nearly 300 games.. some of which are even alien to myself, also, a MAME (arcade machine) emulator plus some worthy games, from the early nineties.. the lands of sega and nintendo yet remain unknownst to me however, save a few..

Battletoads was FRICKIN hard..well at least on NES it was.. kudos.

Are u a Madden fan? I need someone competitive to play on xbox.  My mates won't play that game with me anymore.

I love the madden games. But the latest one I have played is the Madden 64, which was about 98 I think. I dont have an Xbox, as you can see from my list - dont want one either, nor a Playstation or any of that crap. Complex games with mega graphics and sound dont do it for me. Im old school. The best game EVER, which one day I will possess in table version, is Galaga. Thats fucking expensive these days though - about $1200 is the cheapest I have seen it.
Title: Re: Nerd Corner

And yes, Battle Toads would definitely be one of the hardest games I have ever clocked. Double Dragon was no walk in the park either. Mario Golf (N64) is quite fucking difficult and very time consuming - but I've done it 3 times now, and 2 of them not by choice....some dickhead (probably me) reset it somehow....twice!

thats cool, i can respect that, but it is pretty early days to shun technology.  We will be seeing bullshit stuff in 10 years, i am going to try and keep up if i can.  I was playing halo and my granddad asked me what movie i was watching i had to laugh a little and explained... he sat down in awe for about an hour and went to his workshop for the rest of the day and sulked.

Duke Nukem 64 was the best Nukem game, mainly for the Piracy multiplayer level.

I never played postal 2, is that good because its violent or whatever?? i played that one on xbox, where u murder people, fun as a gimmick, but utter shit as far as games go.

Link and Zelda on nes (gold and silver carts) were amazing games.  I felt a bit like Mago when they revamp games tho.. I might join him in his cave.

Postal 2 has the best premise of any game ever made. The goal is to get your wife a Rocky Road. It's like GTA but using a Half Life game engine, and the weapons are fucking great. There's nothing like pissing in a nurses mouth, then belting off her spewing head with a shovel, kicking it around and torching masses of bodies with gasoline and a lighter. It's rediculously violent, awesome graphics and the fact that you can fuck up a town with a napalm launcher makes it fucking sick.

Hey ur only 19 hey?  How did u get into amiga?  I only just was in commodore 64 at about 7-8.  I thought amiga preceeded that? Also i used to play some computer with a tape loader and a screen that only had a green and green screen, some of the games on that were Dracula's Castle, Loderunner, Bezerk, asteroids..pretty intense but i was really young.  Mr Upsidedown could tell u more, he was a bit older than me and my gaming idol.  When he conquered Gods we celebrated with cocoapops at 3am.  i think i was about 9

I played my dads C64 when i was 4 then when my brother was born when i was five my dad gave me an Amiga 500 and 600+ (so i wouldn;t feel left out with them giving him all the attention, I was sold ;D ) I never owned a computer till i was in yr 7, Never really wanted to.. the amiga was my favourite Console I played it till then and still play it now, I used to buy boxes of amiga games (like 50 at a go) from cashies when i was 8 for like 10 bucks a box, so i had an extensive collection ;D

That wasnt an Amstrad was it? They were classic! I remember the good old Amstrad CPC464 from when I was about 8-10. Classic shit.

Im quite happy in my classic old school games cave thanks man. If I did buy a PS2/Xbox the only game I would get would be NBA Live 2006. I love the NBA Live series, and have played nearly every single one countless times from NBA Showdown '94 to NBA Live 2003 (PC). Ive got Showdown 94, live 95 and live 96 on Megadrive, live 97 on Saturn, Live 99 on N64, Live 01 and 03 on PC.

As far as old school PC games go, the entire Commander Keen (1-6, or maybe 7) and Duke Nukem 1-3 (before it went 3D first player, which was a direct rip off of Wolfenstein 3D), Captain Comic, Tank Wars, Hugo's House Of Horrors 1 & 2, Leisure Suit Larry 1-6, Catacombs and pretty much any sierra game where you have to type in the commands like "pick up pumpkin", "smash pumpkin", "pick up key", "unlock door", "open door" - and that was just to get into the house to start the game of Hugo's House Of Horrors.

You know what was the best thing about the Amiga's?
You could plug Master system and mega drive controllers in and use them instead of joysticks.

Back in the old 386SX days I used to plug my Megadrive controller into the PC and use that to play. It was awesome!

i took me a while to figure out how to get past that stupid dog.  Yeah i love Sierra, Apogee and ID games.

Anyone wanna have an old school game convention.  I have megadrive and snes, we'll just buy up games from all our local cashies, will be easy coz we all live in working class areas and get together and play 'em with loads of junkfood. If u have surround on the 2600 i wanna kick ur ass at that Mago

I dont think I have ever played or seen Surround. I not this game you speak of.
Anyway, all my consoles are in storage for the time being - and my boys arent playing them for many years to come! I want them to respect the console, treasure it, caress it, stroke it, loooove it, and most of all - NOT BREAK IT! Mind you them joypads were quite tough. No matter how hard you throw them, they seem to bounce straight back in tact - except the stupid N64 ones where that crappy little stick thing always goes limp. nothing worse than a flaccid stick.  :P

Definitely a Sega man through and through, but I had no quarms buying a N64 just so I could have Mario Kart. Mario sucks Yoshi's bell end, Sonic kicks ass (although Sonic is now Nintendo), but Mario Kart is the best of all of them.

I still cant get over the fact that Sonic went to Nintendo. Its like Holden using a Ford motor for fucks sake, Michael Jordan playing for the Knicks or Pistons, Kevin Sheedy coaching the Eagles. I just dont get it!

Street Fighter 2 - hyperfight/turbo/champion edition etc were all awesome. Even the newer games like EX 1 and 2 and alpha are still good.

Mortal combat 1 was by far the best of the series, 2 and 3 got stupidly fast and hard and the only way you could enjoy the game was with a page of cheats and combo's sitting on your lap. All the newer games of Mortal Combat are dismal at best.

Nintendo has never put money into Sega or taken it over. Sega merged with Sammy. And given that Sonic was/is the official Sega mascot i can't see how he 'wasn't property of Sega'.

"In 2004, they acquired noted game company Sega under a new company called Sega Sammy Holdings Inc" - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sammy

Looking for other nerds that wasted hundreds of hours of their life on Final Fantasy VII a few years ago (Definately my most favourite video game of all time) - I know it's fairly old news now but I read a few pages on a sequel to that particular story and it's actually been made into movie form..

Final Fantasy VII - Advent Children http://www.ezydvd.com.au/item.zml/781726

I havent seen it before, if someone can be a bearer of good news and tell me, "Yes, it is available on playtation2, and/or Xbox, in fact heres a copy here for you, oh and a bottle of bulleit bourbon. Enjoy!" then that'd be just great. Actually id settle for the first half of the sentence or indeed any info at all.

Archangel, you were asking for disk4 of Superfrog? I have it here but dont know if it works or what, pm me your email and i can try send it to you, also, the romdvd link you posted doesnt seem to bring anything up nor can i find anything similiar on ebay. Though im pretty shit at using it actually.

Perry, thanks for the heads up 'bout the power pack(s), im having a stress cos i can find bits of my amiga but none of my games! Wtf?! Concerning, and wrathful too. >:( Hopefully ill come across em.

Polly, if you're reading, ive been playing BloodRayne2 on xbox last weekend, despite my fears it wouldnt make it to console or australia. And its wicked!  Hurrah!

Yeah, i need to get a copy of that postal game.

I bought a copy of dvd's with about 6000+ Roms on it.  From UK, type in ROMS and see what comes up.  Otherwise i can store a perfectly legal backup copy at your house for safe keeping.  Actually i might make a few copies just in case. PM if u think ur house is pretty safe.

My house is safe for Postal if anyone wants too keep on at mine.

Golden eye got me too, and mario kart..but i was always the last kid to get a console..i was too busy making forts and fighting off pirates with sticks so i wasn't fussy.  about year 6 i developed a soft side for sega.  I remember been very passionate about it.

I TOTALLY remember those pictures!!! they used to be in Sega Power and Sega PRo magazines, hahahahaha, they were so funny! i went through that phase too!! Ah man the nostalgia is killing me!!!

I just got the new Leisure Suit Larry (uncut version) can't wait to get home and play it.

ATTENTION NERDS! Especially you Archangel. You seem to be the Emulator/Rom expert around here.....

How the fuck do I get a MAME emulator that will actually play the roms I want? I downloaded 1942, P.O.W, Kabal and a couple of other classic arcade games from yester-year and then tried about 6 different MAME Emulators (from romnation.net) and the emulators just come with a huge assed list of games, but it wont play any of them, and it wont play any of the ROMS I have downloaded. Its fucked. Its so much more simple with the Genesis or Master System ones.

Fuck that game rocked! Next to the original Ninja Turtles!!! HOW THE FUCK YOU PLAY THESE GAMES CUUUNNNTSSS!!!!????

Totally agree Rod, both those games fucking RULED back in the day. I dont know how many coins I threw into each of them over the years. If I could have every single coin back from all the games I played over the years, I'd be half way to paying my mortgage off I reckon - but fuck that! I'd only have half a childhood! Wouldnt trade it for the world - or half a mortgage.
As for playing them, Ive got the Sega and Nintendo ones sussed, but cant figure out how to play the Arcade ones. Its just not working....and Im waiting for someone *points to Archangel accusingly* to send me the Emulator and Roms for them via email.

You could probably send the roms through Msn ina zip file, dunno if it would be any faster though.. speaking of which, Archangel send em on through to me man!!

Fucking awesome man! Thats one of the greatest games ever to take coins off me.
I had it pretty sweet as a kid though. My best mate at the time's old man made a living off pinnies. He had 27 of them scattered around the south west. Of course they always require maintenance and moving from shop to shop and other such things, so there was always at least 2 at their house....so we were the official game testers. Man, we got good at some of the games....you tend to take more risks when you dont have to pay for the game, and sometimes that helps to win it!

He had....
Galaga (x2)
Galaxian
Frogger
Pengu
Jackall
1942
P.O.W. - Prisoner Of War
Double Dragon

among many others I cant remember right now.

Haydz, you already have mame right?

Some of the roms for the games you listed are at this site:

http://www.videogamearchive.com/emu/mame_rom.htm

Failing that get mirc chat program (http://www.mirc.com/) and install it. Then click on this link to connect to the server and get onto the mame channel:

http://irc://irc.unitedusers.net/mamechannel

Then to find who has a rom you're after type '@find gamename'
Without the quotes of course. If someone has it you'll receive messages from them listing what files match that name. Put their trigger into the channel and that should open a fileserver chat with them. Follow the commands to get the file you want.

Keep in mind that there can be different versions of games (i.e. 4 player version of TMNT or just 2 player version, or some versions that don't work so well).

This page can help you find out what version is what:

http://www.rom-world.com/

Get the zip file (rom) you want and you're off to the races.
Good luck!

Cheers Daz...
the problem I came across is that I have actually tried downloading about 5 or 6 different versions of MAME emulators and then a handful of ROMS, thinking I'd be able to just play it straight away much like the Megadrive ones. Theyre easy to work. MAME isnt, so it seems. The MAME emu has a list of pretty much every fucking game you can imagine, but none of them are installed, and I cant work out how to install the roms I downloaded seperately. Anyway, I'll work it out I guess.....I'll try your suggestions and let you know how it goes!

Cheers man

Ive skimmed thru the posts so hopefully this post isnt a repeat of what someone else has said....Apologies in advance

Its rare that I've had a MAME rom failure
The only time I've had a failure is when its looking for the sound sample
Drop the Rom files (in the zip file) in the Rom folder
Any sound samples that are needed will be available in separate zip files
Drop those in the Sample folder

For anyone that that hasnt played the CLASSIC coin op ROLLING THUNDER!!!!!...Do yourself a favour

Stuck in a game called Waxworks. Also known as Elvira III apparently, ive been looking on the web for a walkthrough and keep finding the same one over and over and its not much help to me because i do what it says and still doesnt work for me..

Thus im reaching out to the metallinerds to help me out, but its a long shot..
Im stuck at the bit right at the end of the mine level where im supposed to get an antitode from the wounded miner/professor who's in the elevator at the very start of the the stage.. The young woman doctor is there and sposed to fix this dude so i can talk to him about an antidote i need for another guy who's dying as well, the electrician. Who is the only one who can fix the elevator before i can detonate the dynamite and get the fuck out of the level.

Got all that? Im hoping some oldschooler will have played it and remembered how they nailed it.. help!

There has been talk of video games and I wasnt informed!!!?  >:(

UNACCEPTABLE.

Western Front : Lord of Tangents. - Lets fire up the nerd corner thread again for this, at least then i'll know where to look. Pre teen skanks dont particularly concern me. Gaming does.

Right,

Original Doom ey.
I was always a fan of SpiderMasterMind, you can make him and Cyberdemon verse in one of the levels but you need cheats.
To you, im pretty sure there is a stage in Doom2 where if you dont run into the room guns blazing, you can sit back and watch the SpiderMaster and CyberDemon shoot it out standing on a small podium each. Cool to watch as CD sometimes wins because of his firepower but sometimes SM because of firing the chain cannon doesnt let CD recover quick enough to let off a shot. Place your bets people!

I think also i remember an added stage in Doom2 where after fighting a CyberDemon you enter a room to find 4 Commander Keen's hanging by nooses above a hellish abyss. No one remembers this?

Lemmings was a total headfuck, but how hillarious, and i still remember the killer theme music..

Cannon Fodder was great as well, i think i have an amigaemu of that here somewhere.

Leisure Suit Larry was cool to but i didnt play through it very extensively, and i think i have the whole collection here on cd somewhere but not real sure how to get some of them going, think theyre glitched or something *

Hugos House Of Horrors had its charm as well, some pretty shitty solutions to some of the puzzles though, im really stuck in one where theres a canyon, a ladder and a fucking banana or something.  :-\  <?>

Monkey Island series (i hate to correct you Nihilist, but i think it was actually LucasArts who did this) are absolute Masterpieces and had a massive impact in my life. Responsible for side splitting laughter and at least a few skipped school days. Memorable from start to finish and cool that the humour was great throughout 1,2,3&4 though switching 4 to 3d wasnt entirely necessary.

Has anyone noticed that "Captain Jack Sparrow" is actually alot like Guybrush? Although i cant really Guybrush to have a lot of cunning or a deceitful nature he was the epitome of total chaos and has to be the luckiest character ever created. That with a bit of logic, lunacy, making an ass of himself and absolutely fucking things up things would turn out alright. So i guess thats why i relate to Guybrush so well maybe.  :P

Yeah, in Doom 2! You shot them and they fell into a crumpled mass of gibs.

Did you ever get to the wolfenstein secret level? It had the blue gestapo guys in it!
Title: Re: Nerd Corner
Post by: Ingasm on July 27, 2006, 08:14:13 PM
Also, cannon fodder would have to be one of my ALL TIME favourite games.

I've never actually passed it, however, I got to the desert level with the landmines where you get ONE soldier to destroy all enemies + buildings. The soldier's name was JOOLS  ;).

I used to save and reload if Jools or Jops got killed. As a result they became generals, along with CJ and Stu.

I actually cared about those little guys. They just don't make games like that anymore.

IIRC, you don't need cheats to make demons fight eachother in doom. You just need them to get caught in crossfire, then they'll hapilly kill each other.

<nostalgia>
That's the only way I could ever get through the first mission of the 3rd episode on Ultra-Violence, four Cacodaemons and only a pistol to kill them with? Get fucked. I just ran around hiding behind the big stakes with the impaled heads on them. It was much more entertaining to watch the legions of hell kill each other.
</nostalgia>

anyone into early warcraft, starcraft and the original command and conquer games?
warcraft 1 was a bit to be unexperienced in the realm of making strategy games, something about having to select the move button that took way to long. Warcraft 2 on the other hand was great, i remember only having a demo with the first 4 levels for ages, and used to play it over and over, would flood into the other bases with 100 orcs and just demolish the place.

Starcraft was really impressive for its time, a lot of in-depth story lines and huge array of units and buildings, though quite similar to warcraft 2 (yes i konw westwood did both etc)

the original command and conquer and red alert were fun, all those tiny insignificant marines that got built in 2 seconds and died from a single shot just made a beautiful bloodbath for attacks.

Yeah, I was into Red Alert years ago (Original and the second one).
Loved building forts out of thick walls of inpenetrible tesla coils.
Even better in Red Alert 2, you could make them more powerful, or power independent by running them off those tesla troopers. ;D

the best in the RA 2 was playing as france in a skirmish, and having rows of grand cannons, then prism towers, then pill boxes, and anti air things all around ur base. Invinsible!!!!
first time i did that though i forgot aobut air protection, had this beautiful land defence, then suddenly 3 Kirov airships came in and i lost everything haha.

we should have a wf lan party ;) have 2 dedicated machines....1 running as a dedicated server and 1 as a dedicated mp3 player

Inge, i meant i played the Doom stage which was kick ass, and you essentially explained what i meant about the soldiers levelling up through each phase. But it was a greivous event when any of 'the four' went down.

Starcraft is fucking brilliant, i dont have Warcraft II but would like to get it from somewhere? :-\ I think the first Warcraft was following the formula from something more like Dune II which was great for its time. Some people are downright aliens when it comes to playing Starcraft, just inhumanly awesome at the game, not sure im that good.  ;D

I have Warcraft, the Expansion, Warcraft 2 and the two Expansions for that, i used to play em when i was like 7.
Red Alert 2 i always went the team with Snipers, you put a Sniper into one of those trucks, which then fires like whatever unit is inside, except its faster and has more life, and the team with Desolater, "IT WILL BE A SILENT SPRING"

Someone's got their Blizzard and Westwood Studios mixed up  ;D

I preferred Warcraft 2 to Warcraft 3, because it was aimed at an older audience.  Warcraft 3, and subsequently WoW, is miles too cartoony for my liking, and so I never really was able to get into either of them.  Warcraft 2 orcs are downright brutal though.  And a decent shade of green.

Try 3 star chrono tanks. They fucking 'deconstruct' anything that is near them in about a second. Three of those, take out any base with that. ;D

The french team are pretty kick ass. Quite a few good ones. Cuba is fun. Pack flak tracks full of terrorists, send off about 10-20 full flak tracks to the enemy base, unload 'em all through the base. ;D

You guys are talking about games that are too new. Thats understandable, cause Im a few years older than most of you, so my gaming period was pretty much pre-Windows, pre-LAN and all that crap. While we're on the subject of DOS games, does anyone know how to disable sound on DOS? Even with everything on mute in the windows volume control you still get the beeps and shit, which is cool normally.....but not when you're at work!  :P

Starcraft, i lived on that game for ages when i was around 12 or so. good times. still makes its little comebacks here every now and then.

And no, the movie was MEH at best...no continuity in the story...and in the movie, the Aliens incubate in like 30mins..where as in every other Aliens movie they take days to a few weeks....lol Continuitity for the lose! Also, the Aliens are too damn strong in that movie..one Alien kills two Predators...yet one female Warrent Officer can kill hundreds in Aliens...lol

The movie would be good if it was a stand alone movie...and wasnt part of the Alien/Predator franchise

In my opinion the movie was shit, the base storyline wasnt bad, about the pyramids and offerings to the Predators and the such. But i cant get over why a predator would team up with some weak ass bitch, was also pretty weak how the Predators make "tiger" roars. They should of made it MA, for a Alien AND Predator movie, there was a severe lack of gore.
Very dissapointing.

Being a huge fan of both Predator, and Aliens, i actually enjoyed the AvP movie for the fact that i could at least see them in their glory again, but - granted ; it could have been alot, alot better. I did enjoy the concepts in the story about using the human as cattle for hosts for better prey to hunt, but ill agree about its continuity, or lack of. Had its moments though. I also thought the Queen in AvP looked mintox.

For AvP2 (the film) i have read some concepts of what was rumoured to be a "leaked script" : set in a Texan shopping mall, and involving all the worst stereotyped characters we all never want to see again. Such as the nerdy pizza delivery guy, the retired sherriff, the unwitting/reluctant hero.. etc :o

So i can only hope, that this script was either a rumour or leaked 'on purpose' so to speak, as a way to gauge the reaction of the public. And as you can imagine it was that of an upset, even angry, audience. Shit, they pretty much wrecked the first one, i want the sequel to be the redeemer. (Though we all know how spectacular sequels often turn out to be.. :err:)

What i would dearly love to see is all out Predator/Aliens Warfare, like an invasion of a Predator homeworld or something, or at least somewhere remote again. With minimal human interaction. As i haven't read as many of the AvP comics as i'd like, i would like to see what their society may look like and see some more of Yautja technology. Also as with the end of AvP one im looking forward to seeing the PredAlien(s?) and possibly Praetorians if they can get them in there. I just hope Hollywood and Fox can give the FANS what they want to see rather than just making what they class as a "fantastic piece of cinemaarr".

Pfft, Death to Hollywood!

Ps, if anyone else has AvP2 here and is as shit as me, being as i have a fucked up keyboard and mouse then say so and maybe we can 'frag it out' or something. Yeah.

Yeah..but Bishop is a clone of Charles Bishop Weyland, the owner of Weyland Corporation in AVP, which becomes Weyland-Yutani Corporation from Aliens....so it kinda makes sense..that they use the same actor..although he looks older in AVP, which is 175 years before the first Alien movie with Bishop...

Aliens V got binned shortly after AvP got released because it was a fairly good success :( which i reckon was a TERRIBLE move because they were gonna base Aliens V on that Alien book trilogy (one read it, i have... three times ;D).

Far out.....I didnt say it was a brilliant movie, or didnt say it was better or as good as Predator (which happens to be one of my favourite movies of all time, and definitely my favourite Arnie movie), or as good as Aliens....I said it was "pretty cool", for basically the same reason Noxy suggested....it has Aliens AND Predators in it! It could/should have been FAR better than what it was.

it was based waaay too much on the books and comics (of which, that is the main story ive read atleast). and the end is bullcrap anyway. for one the chick doesnt get a scar on her cheek, its her forehead. its like a symbol that shes become one of the clan (duh) but the chick in the movie was weak as piss! no way should she be apart of a predator clan *pushes glasses back up his nose* SCCCHHHEEEK

I think i remember seeing an advertisment in an old comic from Dark Horse or something about Predator Vs ... Batman! Did this ever happen? I'd find that an entertaining read, but you know, theres something about that which makes me take it a little less serious.. It would be funnier still if it was the original 'Adam West' Batman. Go lycra go.

Damo, that c64 version of Aliens i thought was killer, and scary as fuck when your a young'n. But agreed, it was bullshit hard. One of those games where you need graph paper to draw and mark a map as you go.

Also been pleased i finally got a copy of the AvP Arcade game working on the M.a.m.e emulator. If anyone aliens/predator fans are chasing it you can get the mame emulator and avp files from 'romworld' Darren mentioned it a few pages earlier i think.

It's actually pretty cool - the illustrations are great, dark and detailed.

As for the C64 Aliens game - there were 2...
One was like a first person deal made by Electric Dreams, which would be the one you're talking about, where you have to switch between characters.

You start off flying the drop ship in (the most annoying part), and then after a short cutscene with the mission briefing (copied from the movie - "It's a bug hunt") you move on to fighting your way through the complex, culminating with fighting the queen with the cargo loader.

And yeah, I have the AvP arcade rom too.. one of the reasons I bothered getting mame.  ;)

I've been watching the DVD's, bought 'em cheap on ebay, pirates I think but who really gives a shit? The most interesting thing I've noticed is quotes such as "rust in peace", "symphony of destruction" and even an episode called Countdown to Extinction...

I have Cyclonus too, plus all the Stunticons and a couple more.

I've been watching the DVD's, bought 'em cheap on ebay, pirates I think but who really gives a shit? The most interesting thing I've noticed is quotes such as "rust in peace", "symphony of destruction" and even an episode called Countdown to Extinction...

Interesting you'd choose Rodimus over Optimus for your avatar by the way.

So were Transformers fans of Megadeth, or were Megadeth fans of Transformers? Or, perhaps, its a freak coincidence.

Ha, Im sure its no coincidence.

The Shape : Shockwave was a great character. I think he kind of kept things together in a way for the Decepticons, he helped offset Megatrons headstrong nature with calm logic and ruthless efficiency. *lacking nerd emoticon*

I want to know if anyone had Tripticon. ?

Shockwave is rare i think, a loose one went on ebay for about $250. You usually see trypticon floating around ebay now and then, the toy could walk! how awesome is that.

This is the nerd corner huh? Well I had a pretty nerdy dream a few weeks ago. I had a dream that I was overseeing the reconstruction of Darth Vader. And I was operating some machine putting subliminal messages into Vaders brain. Telling him that Obiwan was responsible for his injuries and the death of Padme and the Jedi were responsible for the death of his mother. Vader became angrier and angrier sort of like the Incredible hulk. The Emperor was watching and he was very pleased with my work.

Dinoriders was awesome, but watching it now, I can't help but cringe at how the T-Rex stands.  The reality (as far as we know today) is that they didn't stand upright at all, but more in the shape of a T, and that really bugs me for some reason.  Probably because I loved dinosaurs as a kid, and they got it wrong when compared to what I know about dinosaurs  :err:

Bah, you should have got them.  Who are the staff of the Freo Hardly Normal to judge?  There's only about 12 of them in total  :cunning:

For your DVDs however, try either 78s or JB HiFi.  Plus, we're talking real Transformers here, so only true fans would buy the DVDs, which means that you were raised properly.  They aren't for kids, you know  ;)

I will be. I used to love watching the Transformers every Saturday morning on the T.V.
Altho I'm into starwars alot these days. As a kid I was only into starwars for a few months. Thought Darth Vader was cool but never understood the whole Jedi thing. But when Transformers came out I lost interest in Darth Vader and Starwars. TF basically over shadowed SW for me in the mid to late 80's.

Yeah man, I was fully scepticle of that too. Never seen it, only heard the myth. I vaguely remember seeing babalities, where you turn them into babies. Fucking awesome game. Started to lose its edge with MK4, when it went 3D, Tekken style. Never was a fan of the Tekkenesque fighting games. Though I do have a cool Tekken memory. Playing it in a 24hr Cafe/games place in Bunbury called Edo's Eats many years ago after popping a trip in Donnybrook on the way down. Half way through my game of Tekken, the flip kicked in. I tell ya, that was the coolest game I have EVER played, for the next 2 or so minutes before I walked away mid-game to find other amusing things to look at (it was my first trip, so was somewhat of a mind fuck when it first kicked in)

Hilarious part is that the game was released right around the time of the GTA; San Andreas "Hot Coffee" mod.

So a game where you had to go through 2 hours of gameshark hacks to see some poorly done incomplete minigame with no nakedness threw up this MASSIVE uproar, but a game where i can change my fucking speed with the left analog control stick nobody makes a fuss? Classy 8)

Tits, or get the fuck out.

Actually, I've gotten back into gmod (Garry's mod, sandbox mod for Half-Life 2) to find it's all gone completely wonky. There's a whole bunch of new features, and a number of mods (for a mod... crazy?). I've found one mod in particular that's been of particular interest, the Wired mod.

Basically you can create a circuit using ICs, logic gates, switches etc. in-game, as you would in real life, to control contraptions that you build out of random game models. It's mind blowing - if you have the knowledge and time to waste, you can actually build a simple computer or a calculator, virtually, in-game.

Yes, very interesting, and totally awesome, it's a bloody shame I don't have a fucking clue how to do anything with it.

I the meantime while I learn logic function, I'm will content myself by making trebuchets, slingshots, spaceships, and giant animatronic penises out of logs and crates.

Gmod 10: Well worth the $10 USD  I paid for it.

Dparker, unless you're completely blind, it's not just limited to two threads.

Of course not, they are just the main two threads it happened in... especially in the feet thread if you would like to go and have a read.

Anyway, I used to play gmod 6 or so months back, using a friends account, until he took it back... basically the same week gmod 10 came out. I've got a steam account now, and still using gmod 9, but yeah... it's fallen to shit... it was hard enough to find a decent server before, but now every server is a warzone, even admin controlled ones. Is that circuit mod you speak of a gmod 10 thing?

One thing I built a while back was a simple, but flexible thruster-car, using a shipping container (the one with a hole at the back), thrusters in specific positions, and a pod... you make the container clear, mount the pod on the inside, attach thrusters in certain places... pretty fun to ride around in... since you are invincible in pods, you can run over Mingebags with ease too... you can also strap dynamite to the thing and go around blowing stuff up... whatever really. I also liked to make a base out of the area behing spawn on gm_construct... ah memories.  :'(

i've been playing San Andreas MP. It's pretty buggy, but fun when the pings are -100. Especially when you get a bunch of mates in a car and go drive by people coming out of spawn whilst listening to metal on your user tracks  :headbang:

IMO it's a great mod. The next version should fix alot of bugs. If your one of those people that can't play a game with bugs then it isn't for you.

Some people here just can't relax and have fun, your so uptight and fucking narrow minded all the time. You know, you don't have to condemn other people just because they don't float the way you fucking do. If I want to play fucking games like that, I will, and just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it's dumb. This is a nerd corner, where you cunts were talking about fucking games, you don't need to be so harsh on other people when they say what they are doing.

Grow up, you all seem to be older then me, act like it.
Ironically I was having a bit of fun and a laugh. I probably should have made that a bit clearer with the emoticons. I actualy happen to be one of the greatest comic geniouses on here and if playing those Paris Hilton style games gets you're rocks off then all the best to you. 8)

siiifff... lans get a bad rep I would say 40% of the populace would be the ultra geeks. If anything there are too many metro C.S players. Meh I hardly play games properly at lans too much goodies to leech =D
Title: Re: Nerd Corner

[rant]I say that LANs are full of cunts, because I hate leachers.  I hate people that can't play just yet, becuase they need to get this or that while it's still up.  I hate people that think they're going to bash me at lan, too, becuase that shit is fucking funny, in a sick, sadistic way.  40% being ultra-geeks is too low.

I play games with my friends.  My CSS clan is, by extrapolation, full of friends, and we're sitting in the WALinerz invite league.  LANs are full of people who are not my friends.  They're full of people not in clans, part of WALinerz or some other ladder/community.  Those people don't know what they're doing, and when I'm at a LAN, I'm there to be ultra-competitive and get as much practise in as possible, rather than sit around while people leach stuff that doesn't interest me at all.  LANs are also a ways away from Rockingham, apart from WolsLAN, but I cbf going to that.  Plus, the viruses and shit that can go around.  I don't like LANs, incase you can't tell   [/rant]

Sif you can't play + leech at the same time? I do, as soon as I set up I start leeching then I play a game. Get bored, start leeching something else and then play a different game. But yeah you do get cunts at Lans. Especially the UT Clanners that bring air horns and sound them off @ 4 in the morning and then play porn through speakers.

The best lans imo are the 5 man lans in that particular month when 5 good quality games have come out and you are still trucking on till 5am :D They are great fun.

On a side note, don't you think it is gay that Steam lets people hand out guest passes for CS:S?

All that has resulted in is people deliberately and blatantly hacking cause they don't care if their temporary account gets VAC'd.

Saw the movie Starwarped last night. It a spoof of all the sci-fi actions movies.  Starwars,Star trek, aliens, predator, Terminator and robocop. For the die hard Starwars fans I don't recommend watching it It's blasphemous what they did with Darth Vader. I personaly thought it was a complete pile of tripe.

lol @ the bashed at lan part. When I was a bit younger I did go to lan and on the net some kid thought I was 11 and wanted to bash me, my CS clan at the time went along with it and the lan came up and the person that wanted to "bash" me was some fat ass 14yr old :P:P kinda glad I no longer go to them, I think TAFE is bad enough doing multimedia.

Don't know what a CS is. But I think Lan = Local Area Network. It basically means you can hook up a series of computers in one room. So all the Pc's are interconnected for multiplayer games. Like the Quakes, aliens vs predator, ghost recon, e.t.c.

Eternal hails! Mario Kart = BEST multi-player game ever. Weed and alcohol only make it more fun, and crank the metal up too. If you have to play games at a party, this is the only way to do it - unless you're a rich cunt and happen to have a 4 player Daytona/Sega Rally/Sega Touring Car set up (my ultimate geek-goal)

How are lans unsociable? Your in a room playing with 200 people. I would say staying at home and playing said games over the internet is unsociable.

Thats what we do at lans!  ;D only thing wrong about lans in my eyes is the smell, the uber geeks and the music.

But granted I can only stand about one lan every 3 - 4 months. Which is generally WALAN because i am an admin  :headbang:

That depends entirely on the people you're lanning with.  Believe me, I know that from experience  :P

I also think it depends on the reason for the lan party, too... if I were to go to a big lan, I'd be there for competitive gaming; if it was with my mates, it'd be to just screw around with stuff and have a laugh.

I've got a real N64, and the Project64 emulator... either is fine... although keyboard is a bit akward. One annoying thing is that the emulator has a few glitches with that game... for example, the energy ball Samus shoots looks small no matter how much you charge it.

However, I've been listening to the soundtrack music from Tales of Symphonia (and also, Phantasia)... symphonic power metal at its subtlest!

I should sell my Steam account to avoid temptation! (although it is completely levelled in Internode CS:S #4 RPG, and I would miss out on Gmod, which is an ok game to play every so often ;D)

2. Set up some background metal tunes and make use of it.

3. finish up, load up on munchies and watch this playlist start to finish.
