Decapitated - seek new drummer, vocalist
2009-03-09
Guitarist Waclaw "Vogg" Kieltyka of the Polish extreme metallers DECAPITATED ? whose brother, DECAPITATED drummer Witold "Vitek" Kieltyka, died on November 2, 2007 in a Russian hospital from injuries sustained in a road collision ? has issued the following update
"I was thinking about that for a long time and it's really hard decision for me, but I have decided to continue this band and keep DECAPITATED alive. I know it will be not the same anymore but I want to try, and I'm sure Witek and Covan [DECAPITATED singer Adrian Kowanek, who was also hurt in the accident] will support me and will be happy about that.
"So I want to say that: If anybody from drummers and vocalists feel that they can continue what Witek and Covan did and put all power, energy and live time for this band, contact me at decapitatedband@gmail.com.
"Everyone who is interested, please prepare these tracks ? 'Day 69', 'Post Organic', 'Invisible Control' and 'Long Desired Dementia' ? and send it as audiovideo format."
-
Go on then Taz!!! :D
-
Mad, was wondering what they were up to since they signed to NB.
You should give the tracks a go Taz. ;D
-
So are you going to put one in Taz? I think, even just for the exercise itself, would be pretty fun
-
Louis should give it a crack too... spread his international wings even further.
-
WOW.
Good to hear that they'll keep on going. :headbang:
-
fuck man...Taz...do it bro!!!!
-
Do it Taz!
Send them some covers of some Winds/Nihility tracks as well.
-
This is fucking great news. Cheers for posting Taz.
...and yeah DO IT!! haha
-
Go on Taz you know you want to.

Good work mate
-
Good on ya Dan. Looking pretty flawless to me. Day 69 looked pretty difficult. You nailed the parts pretty quickly, at least quicker then I have. I should be able to send my audition in this weekend hopefully. Long-Desired Dementia is a bit of a bitch so it's taking me awhile. Good luck to you Dan and anyone else here auditioning. Giving the world a taste of Perth talent is always good even if you don't get in.
-
fucking sick balls dudes!!!! ;D :headbang:

Damn what happened to those videos? I wanna see them but it says they were removed?
-

-

Awesome, cheers mate.
Just watched Day 69 and it's really great drumming. You could end up in Poland yet! haha :headbang:

;D

 Daz you funny fucker.
Awseome job Jamie :headbang:
-
fucking well done dude!
great to see you got there!
its harder than it seems uh

Good work dude.

;D
 I was just thinking that while rewatching the videos. Classic 1970's interior design.
Thanks Dan and yes it was quite an effort, the amount of times I ditched everything I had done for off-timing or a wrong word is countless. Plus I had a cold a month ago which put it off once again. But I'm finally confident with what I sent out.
-
anyone done an audition with real drums?
-
Nah dude
Everyone just hits fucking pans and paint tins and shit.
-
 Thats the WF I've come to know and love
-
Jamie - watched your vids. Good shit man. You definitely have the voice required, and the look to go with it. I scouted around on youtube and found a few other vocal auditions and from what I have seen you shit on the rest. One dude had a great voice, but didnt really suit tech-death type music, and also he looked like a tool and used a TV remote as his mic ??? for a band like this (or most bands really), its not all about the sound. There are other factors that weigh in hugely as well. For example, Slash got the job of lead guitarist with Poison (prior to Guns) but they knocked him back/he knocked them back (bit of a mutual decision) because he wouldnt wear makeup and spandex. Image counts for alot, and you certainly have that.
Maelstrom - nice drumming (not that Im a drummer, or really even have much of a clue at all about it) but just personally, I would have rather seen you smashing on real drums. The electric kits visually seem (to me at least) like you dont require as much effort, therefore it appears like you arent really trying, or dont have a great deal of enthusiasm. Like I say, Im no expert, and from what I can tell you did a great job.
Good luck to both of you. how sweet would it be if you both got the jobs? Long shot I know, but there's always hope.
-
Are you cupping the mic there Jamie? Can't really see from that angle.
-
Are you cupping your balls there Jamie? Can't really see from that angle.
fixed.
-
Boooo!
-
Jamie- what can I say!
Just saw the vids, I think you did so well mate. I'm really excited for you, definitely think you're in with a shot :headbang: :headbang:
Good luck you deserve this
-
Dude! Watching them now, Naaaaaailed it! Good luck mate
-
Are you cupping the mic there Jamie? Can't really see from that angle.
I'll cup you mate!

Check this out...
SAURON has just released an album with a new Death Metal band made up of former members of Vader/Yattering.
http://www.myspace.com/masachistband (http://www.myspace.com/masachistband)
It's still technical brutal death metal, which leads me to ask....Why didn't he come back to sing for Decapitated?
Maybe he doesn't get along with the rest of the band, or didn't like where the band was headed. Maybe he saw/heard Organic Hallucinosis coming and decided to bail.
Sucks because i think we can all agree Sauron is definitely better than Covan. I just wish the old band could get back together (Minus Vitek) but i guess you can tell Decapitated want to move in a different direction when you see the tracks they wanted the new vocalist to audition for.
Still Masachist's new album is here to download and it fucking rocks. Kind of 'Winds Of Creation' style. Sauron hasn't lost a step either.
Just scroll down and you will find the album - http://theunderworldofmusic.blogspot.com/ (http://theunderworldofmusic.blogspot.com/)
-
Nice, thanks for the link mate. Always did like Sauron better than Covan, and with Daray on drums this has to kick ass. Poland ftw!
-
Organic Hallucinosis wouldn't have been half as bad if Sauron was on it. Covan just plain sucks.
-
new drummer

Congrats to him. Definitely suits the band and adds his own little touch to what Vitek already wrote.

Surprised this wasn't made into a reality TV show.

I havent got myspace access.... who is it?
-
From wikipedia:
On July 31, 2009, Vogg announced that the Austrian drummer Kerim Lechner ("Krimh") from the band Thorns of Ivy will be the replacement for Vitek.
Sounds promising?
-
That was an enjoyment to watch, so fluent, tight and the perfect balance of power used. Sweet drumming!
-
does that mean Jamie still has a shot at vox?
-
Who says I haven't already got it and haven't told anyone? ;)
-
He is a good death metal drummer that guy, good power.
-
I don't think power is one of his strong points, from watching that he is all fingers and wrists and has no strong backbeat, he didn?t play a rim shot once. Turning up the output on a trigger module does not make you a powerful drummer.
-
I thought he was hitting the snare a little light. Although playing along to a cd in a small room may have had him holding back.
He was tight as though.
Some nice cymbal fills.
It will be interresting to see how hard he hits the skins in a live environment.
-
Tbh all that matters is that he was tight. Its death metal drumming after all. Technique sets apart drummers that are good and ones that are mediocre.

BWAHAHAHAH!! Nice one. Reminds me of a guy I went to high school with. He called himself D'Zol. Supposedly on his debut album he was supported by the "Youngstaz killaz". Good times.
I'm pretty sure i've seen a few vids by that drummer. I think he even covered "Bland street bloom" by Sikth... Could be a different guy though.

I remember seeing that dude a while back. The scenes where he's in the shower just defy description. What the hell was he thinking? If you want to do a shower scene, don't fucking lather up and actually get into the crevices like that..... This is all pretend!
Great vocalist though...... keeps on those notes like a king!

That's awesome.....good to see Sauron doing something again.
I'm very worried about Decapitated, I don't care much for kinda screamy vocals....didn't think much of Organic Hallucinosis and this new drummer...frankly he seems to fit into the whole screamy thing - I remember he used to have covers on youtube of some pretty weak songs. Still, he's very good technically and I mean no disrespect to Decapitated, they've had some terrible luck.
-
Masachist kicks your fucking FACE IN! Really loving their myspace songs

These folks wouldn't know either way.
-
Nor care.
-
Bah, pay respect where it's due and stop puffing your chests up. He's not a bad drummer.
-
He's also not an amazing drummer.
But we have to see him play something within his shell.

this just sounds like 2 slow drummers trying to compensate for their lack of speed
"errrr he's not hitting hard enough, he has no feel"
try playing blasts faster than 200bpm :P

Compare these two drummers
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KumYxSpYZeQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gXINemV8E_0&feature=channel_page
Both are blasting and using triggers and so there isn't much of a difference sound wise, but its pretty obvious who is putting more effort into their strokes. I don't have anything against triggers (in fact I'm considering using them for when I start recording), its when drummers sacrifice power for speed and use them to make up for it.
-
Perversion of Hate! :headbang:
I really don't see your point though? both drummer's seem to be hitting fairly hard, maybe Longstreth is hitting a little harder but not by much, as for Sacrificing power for speed, when you blast at Speeds of 280bpm+ you use a different technique that requires the stick to not leave the snare (or the beater not leave the kick) a foot each time, that's the whole point of Trigger's! There's no point acting the Terry cos you can hit hard if your still only playing at 240bpm, ya know? you kind of have to sacrifice one for the other, and if your using trigger's who cares if your not hitting as hard as Mike Smith or Ben Mazzarol :P
-
Not to mention that triggers are pretty much a necessity when playing at 240+BPM speeds, no matter how hard you're hitting. How else are you going to cut through the walls of guitar distortion?
Even George Kollias says so, and he's known for having powerful and fast feet.
-
Your right darla, 280bpm is fayst

What Ben originally was saying is that triggers shouldn't be used to make a drummer sound really powerful when the truth is he is barely hitting the drum. Guys like George Kollias and Derek Roddy are proof that it is possible to play insanely fast and still maintain power regardless of whether they trigger their kit or not.

Oh right, I thought this thread was gonna deteriorate into yet another "if you use triggers, you're a pussy and don't hit hard enough" discussion :)
-

You means i can play that fayst and cut tru dat nasty jibber jabber? I don't beleive it darla!

Derek is an animal. However there are situations where in a studio you need the drummer to hit & hit HARD to get the right sound. Some drummers become slack & this becomes evident when their hits become uneven.
Triggers can however also become the solution to fixing this problem also.
By adjusting the trigger to only register with harder hits you can keep cranking the machine as you get better without sacrificing speed.
Seeing as many drummers just can't practice on a real kit during the week in their small shoebox rental, then using a trigger kit is better than not practicing. The advantage is if you keep upping the ante on the module it can be used to improve playing technique.
Derek is a big fan of this way of practicing.
-
Our drummer, Bars, is pretty fayst. He can play triplet 16ths on the kick drum at 160bpm, but any gravities we have on the album are played by silent member 'Sonor snare 3' who lives in garageband. Sonor is pretty consistent but his raw power sometimes makes him sound a bit computer-like. We're working on it.
If we ever get offered a small club show or Wacken or something, I'd probably ask Bars to practice a bit more because it would be embarrassing to be shit.
I'm working on a new song called 'It was fayst', I've set the tempo at 300bpm, and the double kick is insane. I've never heard such brutal quarter notes!

Can you guys please name me a new-style technical death metal band who's drummer does use rim shots? I'm in the dark here.....
-
HAHAHAHAHA i missed that bit about rim shots!
i guess people who gravity blast use the rim, but wait they gravity blast so that is also *cheating*
come watch blowtorch abortion Tonight if you want to see some fast blasting :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
or Death By DeepThroat

-
Triggers, rim shots, gravity-blasts..... Suffo-bla...blah...blah....
Someone could stand behind the drum kit and throw jellyfish and rocks at the cymbals and it would still be drumming as far as I'm concerned.
As long as there is a noise being produced by the drum, by whatever means, then that is the act of creating SOUND!
There is no such thing as cheating. There is no "wrong way". Who creates these "rules"!? But, I am a retard though; I only listen to death metal and don't understand the nuances of any other kind of music, thus my take on this is not really valid what-so-ever. I wish I was a real drummer :-[
-
awww cmon dan your drumming is good! 8)
fuck tonight is gonna be brutal!
-
In the death metal realm:
Speed/Accuracy > Power
(i dont know how to write that as a mathematical equation ...)
-
Death Metal Drumming = Power + Speed + Accuracy
Speed ≥ Accuracy ≥ Power
Speed = Accuracy = Power = 0 ≠ Death Metal Drumming
∴ For Death Metal Drumming to occur:
Speed ≠ 0
Power ≠ 0
Accuracy ≠ 0
Does that help? :P
-
very much thankyou
-
I'm not getting into the trigger thing because I have said my piece about them. I really don't mind what technique extreme metal drummers choose to use, But MY OPINION is that if you sacrifice dynamics, power, and focus on singles and fast playing, then you are only ever going to be a one dimensional drummer. And I don't think you can really communicate properly through the drum set. I personal don't give a shit about how fast a drummer can play (The fastest drummer comp is a sporting event not a drumming one), for me it's about the voice and technique. But each to their own.
-
Well said senor :D

Any word as of yet as to who the new vocalist is???

Aparently it's this guy:

Rafal Piotrowski from another Polish Tech Death band - Ketha
Well..... at least he's better than Covan. Slightly more traditional death metal vocals. Not as thin sounding as Covan was.
