FUCK YES MAME RULES!! Mine is up and running, built from scratch. I had a shitload of MDF sheets, meranti battens and other bits and pieces in the shed and a spare computer and built my own cabinet. It came up real good, and the kids love it (but not as much as I do). $77 for an LCD 17" monitor off ebay, about $140 worth of buttons and joysticks, $8 worth of wire, $5 for a lock and $18 worth of paint. Still got a few finishing touches to add, but all in all, for less than $300 with over 3000 games (classic games might I add) you can jam your Playstations and Xbox's fair up yer arse. I'll get some pics soon...

also found a pic of my son playing it - extremely poor quality pic. He's playing TMNT. Little smart arse can clock it in less than 20 credits too.... not bad for a 4 year old. Natural talent - must be genetic ;D

Having your own Mame cab must be fucking killer so what say we shift the discussion of Mame emulators and such across to the nerd corner thread? Or set up a new "DIY" thread or section. Reckon you could walk us through it Daz or Haydz?
I'd like to know more about it, in depth. Procurring materials, dimensions, tools needed, best emulator program/games site, build time etc.. for your own Mame cab. Seen Daz' one which is kick ass and since then really wanted to put one together myself. In regards to (Mame?) emulators running from xbox, how does that work?

Still haven't gotten around to putting in artwork for the marquee. I've been busy with other projects though, like my jukebox / karaoke machine, and my recent media box. ;)

I like the angled buttons, Daz. Nice touch. Im going to remake mine because the screen is too vertical so I gotta knock it down by 20 or so degrees. While Im at it Im going to order another button and joystick pack and make a 4 player unit instead since most of the games me and my boys play are 4 player... TMNT, The Simpsons, NBA Jam etc etc. Also need to fit a coin-slot (though they are about $100 each) and the fluro in the top section, some perspex and a marquee picture. Also want to pretty it up with some cool designs or stickers rather than just flat black.... so there's a decent to-do list, but I just wanted to play the damn thing. 18mm MDF is fucking heavy by the way. I can barely move it with a furniture trolley. I recommend 12mm - but I had stacks of 18mm so used what I had. Fucking great fun, these MAME machines! The only reason I built it was after chatting to you Daz, so myself and my kids are eternally grateful.... not so much the wife, but boys (including dads) have gotta have toys!

Yeah, Daz built a MAME system for me, between us we installed it into an old arcade game I got from a fish and chips shop. The case is a bit munted and the joysticks and buttons are a bit old, but it is a great toy to have. Ah Galaga, how I love thee....

With all this talk of prizes I'd like to bring up a shitty incident that happened at Leonis last gig (Black Friday at the hydey '09). Leoni was nice enough to organise a Xbox 360 to give away and all punters had to do was pay the cover charge and stay for voyagers set. Now the person who "won" the Xbox was not the person whos name was read out by the V dudes. We only found out this was the case after the gig. Pretty crap thing to do huh? Well my friend told me that the dude hocked the Xbox for cds anyway so there no hope of getting that back.
What can I do? I know who the dude is and know how I could get in touch with him but what good would that do? I would just lose my temper anyway.
So I'd like to use this post to ask the person involved to apologise (with all your tiny lying heart) to Leoni, seriously Leoni put on an awesome gig and did a fuck load of work for that night for less thanks then she deserved.
Anyway if I see you I'll be talking to you about it.

Was a good gig. Altho I confused some other random dude for Brutal. Who didn't take too much to my antica that I'd normally reserve for Dyson, Brutal , Sod or anyone who knows me well. I couldn't really here what this due was saying but he threatened to fuck me up. Well physically, I'd like to see that. But as lawyers and shit is concerned thats another story. I tried explaining to the dumb shit that I confused him for someone else. Before he threatened to fuck me up as well. The stupid fucker probly does the same thing with his mates. Bit of a hypocrisy if thats the case. :P
On a lighter note I'd say that Dyls from Nexus is turning into Mark Devattimo. But he has a long way to go before he gets a door on his head. :P

Had a great night. Didn't much like the sound there though. First time I've heard Nails. Well done. Looking forward to playing with ya at our launch. Great set by Sins... you guys are the heart and soul of rock'n'roll. And Malignant put on a good show as always but I was too drunk to focus by that late stage.

Good gig, all the bands did well and Nexus - probably the best I'd heard you guys, in terms of translating what you're doing to a live setting. Look forward to the albums! On ya Leonie for organising the show.
