Title: Anyone heard of NECRO? (Death Rap!?!?)
Post by: danielanastasi on June 06, 2009, 07:11:44 AM
Hey guys,

Heard about a "Death Rapper" who goes by the name Necro.  He's apparently in Aus doing a tour, and I believe he was arrested recently for punching someone...

I don't know if any of you have heard of him/his music, but it's hip-hop/rap/with lyrics styled towards death/mutilation etc...?  (Maybe not as brutal as Cannibal, but pretty graphic for Rap.)

Apparently grew up listening to Metallica/Megadeth and numerous hip-hop artists.  He even has a Necro shirt with the cover from Death's classic album, "Leprosy"  (Bout half-way down the page... http://www.myspace.com/necro)

Just wondering if you had heard of him?  Thoughts?  Seems like a funny mix of genres to me...

Not a funny mix at all.

Hip hop is about rhythm, groove and phrasing. Rap and Hip hop vocals are all about flow and metre, just like death metal. I can perfectly understand people taking issue with rap due to ghetto lifestyle and lyrical content, but out of that context it's perfectly valid as a form of expression.

Every death metal vocalist is rapping (badly) in a gruff voice.

Metal can be fused with almost any kind of music, but probably shouldn't be.   ???

For what reason?

If you listen to it, there's not much metal about it.

It's not like topics of death/mutilation are exclusively metal either.

And it's not exactly a revelation to say one genre relates to another in some way.. after all it all originated in the same place.

That's it, but for some reason there's people that don't acknowledge this.

I dont give a rats backside what Necro raps about.

Anyways his promoter lost $50, 000 on the Perth and Adelaide legs of his tour, after the fisticuffs in Murray St the other day.

Do ya reckon the promoter could sue Necro for loss and damages ???
He didnt fulfil his contractual obligation with the loss of those two shows..

Necro is definitely a "metal head". He drops heaps of references to death metal albums in his lyrics.
"Crack your head like an Obituary riff from Slowly We Rot" etc.
His album 'The Pre-Fix For Death' has heaps of cameos from people like Danny Lilker, Matt Harvey, John Tardy etc.

I'm totally tired of his 'shtick' and I actually wanna sell all my Necro CDs which I bought blindly after buying his debut EP in 98. That record is alright. Gory Days is excellent..... but forget the rest.

I was informed that the Adelaide show went ahead a day or so late, as he paid his fine and was therefore permitted to leave WA.
This is all hearsay, I dont wanna be quoted on this as I haven't/dont want to see/dont care enough to see any official statements.

For what reason?

Because the fusion starts off with the best of intentions but quickly becomes stagnant.

Take hip hop for an example: Slayer and Ice T was cool, Anthrax and Public Energy was slick. Rage against the machine was killer.  But then comes along a pile of followers like Fred Durst, Linkin Park and so many more who steel the sound of metal but not the spirit and create a generation of teenagers who think metal is about crystal meth, dressing like rappers, jumping up and down on ther spot and making "bling".

That's not to say that all fusion is bad, without blues infusion into metal we wouldn't have Pantera.  Without classical influences, bands like dragonforce and Symphony X wouldn't exist.  Without electronica bands like Fear Factory, Ministry and Killing Joke wouldn't exist, and so on.

I just get shitted off when they take our music and dilute it.  It is OURS.

Yeah, but classical music purists are probably saying "How dare they take our beloved music and tarnish it with their moronic, neanderthal metal music!"  :P
(Also, you might be able to replace the word 'Pantera' with the word 'metal' and it would still ring true)
I say, if anyone wants to take 'metal' and merge it.... let 'em. It might sound good, it might not. If there are teenagers who think Fred Durst is cool, it just gives us people to laugh at, right?

I sincerely doubt that this actually happens.

And just out of curiosity, if metal is ours, define us, do we all fit the same mould? Should we? What would I have to do to earn the right to use elements of metal in my music? People's musical tastes run the whole gamut from minimalist drone to baroque, with combinations of this and that and what have you. We sure as hell have different tastes and the music you and I write would reflect that.

If artists are creating the music they want to create, choosing aspects of what you could define as metal and incorporating into their own style, so be it. It isn't hurting anybody, or tarnishing the image of metal as a genre. For example, the whole Limp Bizkit rap-metal phenomenon spawned its own subculture completely. It's got nothing to do with the metal subculture you are a part of, aside from the music sharing some elements.

Music belongs to everybody because ultimately (unless it's solely a commerical profit thing), it's all about self expression. Inter-subculture conflicts of interest are best left to teenagers - adults should focus on music.

without music we wouldnt have metal, without numbers we'd not have math.
There's yer relation right there. (i thought i'd go one further)
Its was all bound to happen anyway, just a matter of time.

Metal is unique though, in its own way, and yep i agree again Catalyst, "get yer own fucking music be-oches!" "Or com up wid sumtin new ai-ght?"
"Word!"

something new, is that even possible now? I mean "new" new, not a bastardized, pissweak version of something else.
that could be cool.

I have no ideas.

It amuses me greatly that Polly's avatar is a pic of her and Smitty in a couples shot and has the caption "...and enjoy the suffering".

Which one is suffering the most, I wonder?

Genre: Screamo / Electronica / Crunkcore

Ah, the lolz

A little bit more about them
Quote
Metal Edge Magazine has called brokeNCYDE "fucking horrendous." British commentator Warren Ellis calls brokeNCYDE's "Freaxxx" music video "a near-perfect snapshot of everything that?s shit about this point in the culture." Says August Brown of the Los Angeles Times, "The 'Albucrazy'-based band has done for MySpace emo what some think Soulja Boy did for hip-hop: turn their career into a kind of macro-performance art that exists so far beyond the tropes of irony and sincerity that to ask 'are they kidding?' is like trying to peel an onion to get to a perceived central core that, in the end, does not exist and renders all attempts to reassemble the pieces futile."
