So... what's the actual order of play? :P
-
not tellin! mwahahaha
-
to many gigs!!! i thought the metal nights were going to be every second?
oh well...divide between pat hogen, cutting edge and this gig?...good luck 2 everyone!!!
-
Yeah double booking is one thing that i guess is unavoidable from time to time, but triple booking ??? in a city as small as Perth? forget about it. why don't you put another gig on IronGuirdian, theres not enough on this date :P
-
The castle does metal gigs every Saturday night no matter what all the pubs are doing. it'd be stupid closing for the night just because there's another gig on in Perth that night.
-

I put on one once a month myself, but the Castle still opens up every other weekend. Most of the time their Saturday nights go under the radar, but Paula has started to get the hang of putting decent bands on the line-ups.
-
and Rowland seems to have gotten the hang of being a smart ass. subtle one, but a smart ass. *shakes fist in air at him* ha ha. im booking the 22nd n 29th too.
-
gogo set times so i can plan my night ;)
-
well, go get a sleeping bag now, set up camp at the door tonight and on the 15th we open the door n you come in n watch all the bands :D

Subtle is best. ;)

I have to agree, to many gigs on the same night gets a poor turnout. Ironguardian has one on the 8th, then there's the 15th, now apparently the 22nd & 29th, 19th of September also (all at The Castle) and I'm sure another few will pop up...
While these promoters are doing a great job, it seems a band wanting to put on a show themselves has to contact these guys to avoid a clash which I think really sux because most promoters take there cut of the cash. The bands get paid fuck all as it is and it leaves them less for the recordings etc
I organised a gig at The Castle about 7 months ago, didn't take any cash for myself just divided the money evenly between the four bands and they got $280 each band for a 40 minute set. Comments were "are you sure, we've never got that much here before"
While I like The Castle and often defend it, I think these regular gigs need to be fewer...
Once or twice a month is sweet, twice a week (which it sometimes is) is ridiculous...

It sux for sure to play a gig on the same night as other bands, sometimes you win and sometimes you lose. I mean, we found ourselves gigging in competition with Psycroptic last time they hit town, you can imagine the turnout, probably no more than 40 people there and we considered that a positive outcome.
I don't think you can have too much metal going on, but I think that different venues need to pay more attention to what is going on. There has to be a point where venues will reject metal as a gigging option because of overbooking and competition. The more centralised locations like the Rocket Room and Amps won't suffer on numbers because of the amount of random blow-ins that will wash up on the shore, but the othr venues are less likely to pull random crowds and rely heavily on scene support.
I think Iron Guardian has hit the nail there, the quality of the lineup is gonna be the big breaker here. Enforce and Nexus vs Pathogen Vs Mhorgl, you would think that the hydie will get the numbers there.
Whichever way it goes, I think the Castle should be commended for making Metal its biggest food group. It shows a lot of faith in us and we should support it whenever we can.
-
Well like I said the castle does metal every saturday. I've been told to book metal on saturdays and not to mess with that because then metal heads will turn up on a saturday wondering whats going on if they find a rock line up on the stage. and yeah, the random crowds are turning up to those other venues no matter whats on the stage because they're a bar with a lil stage, the castle is a stage with a lil bar. People come for the bands not the booze.
-
Its been like this for years and although the odd occasions you might get a crappy turn out when there are 3/4 gigs on the same night....the good nights far outwiegh the bad.
Just roll with it, fans of the band will still go to the gig of the band they want to see, and each venue has its regulars that go to the venue no matter what is on. Obviously you try your best to make sure that you dont have ngihts double/triple booked etc, but sometimes it can't be help, and so be it, just roll with it, and have a good night :)

People come for the bands not the booze.
I come for both. Do irish carbombs again.

Its jack Daniels with tequila and coke. Apparently theres a cocktail made pretty much the same, an american one, called gasoline, and I figured since my username on lots o sites is hatefueled and i like tequila and LOVE jack n coke, I decided to adopt it as my own lil cocktail. :D So far its been a lil too strong for most people who've tried it though.
-
I will try one this Saturday methinks ;D
-
I'll have a hate fueled..... minus the tequilla
-

Hahahaha ditto!
-
Yeah, sounds bloody horrid. No humany should be asked to drink such an awful drink.
I'll try one on Saturday night.
-
Does the castle have wheatgrass? I want a lawnmower.
-
At worst you could always pull some weeds out of the cracks in the carpark around the back and use those.
Im sure the staff would appreciate it.
-

Better make sure they stock extra Tequila this Saturday :P
I tried Absinthe last time I was at the Castle... so it looks like the Hatefueled is next on my list of drinks to try.

I was just getting started. I think that was the same night I used a ratchet strap to fasten myself to the bull bar of the van then got Eric to drive me around. Yes I know, pretty immature but I don't let loose very often

Drinking rum gives me a sore leg for some reason....

The reason they stopped doing them was because they took too long to make
-
Yeah I read that after I made my post. :-[

hehe its kewl...I wish they would still do them though :( hahaa
-
Don't try to palm this off on efficiency Damo, you and your Orange compatriot have ruined my Castle experience! :D
-
You might enjoy the castle special too. Doris n Ben made me try one of their castle concoctions a while ago. It had sambucca in it and i reeeaally don't like that stuff but it wasn't too bad a mix.

Whilst gig clashes aren't exacly ideal for the bands/promoters involved, it does reflect the fact we have a very healthy metal scene in this town. 10 years ago you'd be lucky to get more than a couple of metal shows a month, let alone 3 on the same night. There would also only be about 3 or 4 metal tours a year so the popularity of heavy music, in particular local metal, seems to be growing exponentially.
I wish this show well, as i do the hydie show...Punters will just have to go and support their favourite bands :headbang:

So true! I thought everyone was pulling my leg when iron maiden came to town. Didn't think Perth was on the radar for international bands! And now slayer are coming to town too apparently! I bet that sells out like AC/DC did. Before you know it we'll have metal heads from Sweden and Germany coming to see bands here instead of the other way around!
-
Since there's 3 metal gigs on that night, I suppose it's fair to share the set times for those planing to gig hop all night like crazy people. For this, you owe me chocolate or a drink or something...
It's currently:
1) 8.30-9.00 Cabalistic
2) 9.25-10.00 All This Filth
3) 10.25-11.05 Mhorgl
4) 11.30-12.15 Archaic
But remember, if there's an early crowd we sometimes open the curtains early AND if you plan to just rock up for one of the later sets, I would come during the intermission before their set. And if one of the bands decide to pull out, I'll fill their set with a once only show of me cutting my own head off. ha ha! I'm looking forward to taking more photos of these bands even though I still have so many photos from previous gigs to get through and upload to my myspace for the bands. All tagged up like an inner city wall.
-
And now slayer are coming to town too apparently!
you do realize they came here a bit over 2 years ago?

..nope. I've been in n out of perth since i was little, I probably missed it last time. and judging on my wallet I won't be going to this one either but still! good to see we're on the radar :D
-
OH by the way!
I wouldn't go buying your slayer tickets too fast or if you can't afford one don't despair because there's an unconfirmed rumor that there might be raffle tickets sold at the door for this gig thanks to one of the bands! At the end of the night the winner/s will be drawn from a hat and receive slayer ticket/s! I'm not sure how many tickets will be up for grabs but I think it'll be two? Its all being passed by the big guy first but there's a good chance it will be a go ahead!
-
:headbang: CONFIRMED! :headbang:
Get your raffle ticket free with your entry fee stamp at the door for your chance to win one of two slayer mosh pit/front row tickets and a JB HI-FI voucher runner up prize! At the end of the gig I'll jump up on the stage and draw the raffle and announce the winners!
See you there and good luck!
-
Now im interested...
-
:D :D
-
Tomorrow night!
-
Yessssssss this one is tonight! it's gonna be aaawesome! See ya there! :headbang:
-
What as awesome night! thanks to the bands and all the crazy ppl for coming down and grats to the raffle winners! hope you enjoy your prizes! *collapses*
-
Surprising turnout, packed venue at times. Well done Hatefueled.
Archaic really put on a good show, come along way since blowing up amps on their first show ;p
-
You're right Darla, it was fayst
-
Soo gutted I missed this, I need to see Archaic. :(
-
GREAT,
WE HAD A GREAT SHOW, AS DID EVERY OTHER BAND BY THE LOOK OF IT. HUGE THANKS TO ALL FOR LEAVING YOUR BATCAVES AND OFFERING HEALTHY SUPPORT :headbang: THANKS TO HATEFUELED AS WELL FOR PUTTING THIS THING TOGETHER.
GREAT TURNOUT, I WAS VERY SUPRISED CONSIDERING EVERYTHING ELSE GOING ON. CAPACITY CROWD AT THE CASTLE? WILD FOCKERS TOO. ARCHAIC WRUNG EVERY DROP OF SWEAT OUT OF THEM!!
NEXT MHORGL SHOW IS ON THE 29TH (AT THE CASTLE)....
YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO!
-
Yeah that was fucking cool gig... I'd venture to say, not the usual crowd since the only familiar faces i saw was Lou and IG... I'd say all the rest were off watching Pat Hogan and the Hoganettes..... Kick ass venue... I'd like to see Castle open up its Bar for a one off Metalhead Busy Bee, where every fucking metalhead in town turns up with their skill sets and talents and FULLY decks out the place.. to be rewarded with a TOP-NOTCH band line up and free booze at the end of a good days work...symbiosis at it's best and we'd have a second home we could be proud of.
-

Yeah, barely recognised anyone in the crowd either. Strange considering how many people were there.
Don't know about the Pat Hogan gig, but I dropped by the Hydie, and there would have been about 100 people there too.
-
hm. I was bumping into people I know all night! was great!
-
i had fun playing :)
all bands were sick.
lol @ Trent from Archaic going nuts at the crowd.
Never seen that many people mosh at a local show!
-
Never seen that many people mosh at a local show!
I got dragged into that twice, once by Trent and once by a drunk fan who was wondering around all over the place.
It was a good pit for the band... but no one in it had any hair!
-
Massive thanks to Hate Fueled, all the bands and everyone who rocked up and went absolutely nuts. It was defiantly a great night, I'll be sure to post some pics and vids in the next few days.
-
what an entertaining night, necks still sore
