What I don't get is why they spend 2 minutes after every time the balls gets thrown to... decide where to throw the ball next.

:laugh: then you obviously havn't watched a good paced AFL game from the last 2 years...its all about tactics and "patterns" (rolling zones) now.
Back in the day (early 90's and before) it use to be about who was the bigger and stronger team, now its all about the tactics and the best users of the football.

I quite like Gridiron. I would have made a decent QB too if I kept at it. Used to be able to throw a ball and hit someone on the chest from 30-40 metres many years ago. If me and some friends were playing kick to kick (AFL style) I used to throw most of mine, because I could throw further than I can kick....
