I ordered the Jap version of this CD out of curiosity, wanting to hear the "updated" versions of the stuff off the first three A.E discs.
This one will gather dust in my CD rack, for sure. It's awful..... :( :err:
Angela cements herself as one of the most over-processed vocalists in metal, and the rest of the production sounds like a sterile drum machine with a DI'd amp emulator over the top. Angela seems to go out of her way to change the original timing/phrasing (ie ruining) of just about EVERY lyric on every song, making the rythms much more rigid and quantizing the words to every beat, something Johan wasn't guilty of (he was a human sounding, organic, KICK ARSE singer).
At the end of the day, the only songs on it that I found OK were the Queensryche and Euope cover versions..... sadly. It honestly sounds like a bad cover band with a drum machine rehashing some very good AE soungs.
Anyone else heard it/agree??

Totally agree, how fucking stale did Bury Me an Angel sound? The original is fucking brutal.
-
Yep, totally. It's one of the BEST Arch Enemy songs ever, and on this CD it's one of the WORST versions!!
An album for little metal kiddies who are to young to know/care who Johan Liiva is and can't dig his crusty howling. :(

The early AE stuff was better than anything else they've done so god knows why they'd want to re do it. Was bound to make it worse.
P.S. Did you mean to post this in the 'site news' section, Dan? ;D

if you squint a little bit, it can actually easily be misinterpreted as "shit news"

Hehe....
I'll got with that one.
Sorry Darren, I thought I'd clicked International..... can we move it or sumthin'?
-
Now it looks like we're all talking rubbish. :)
-
spewin hey cause I thought the last album was finally a slight return to form. Easily there best since Wages of Sin I thought.
Dont even know if i'll bother checking it out now.

can't dig his crusty howling
HERE I STAND IN THE FALLING RAIN...THERE IS NO JOY INSIDE THESE TEARS!
Hell funny.

Haha... that is a funny song... Has that sort of New Wave 80's bass line. :P
But Amott wrote the whacky lyrics.
That's also why I find the new CD so odd.... Angela singing the songs that Michael wrote about his ex-wife, about all the hurt she caused etc. How odd!!

The same reason why I just saw that Pirates of the Caribbean 4 is in pre-production; lazy cunts like easy money
-
Yeah i was expecting them to put some effort into the old stuff...but even the production was shitty.
The only good thing is that they will be playing some of it on the tour. Which will be good to hear.
-
Yeah pretty fucking shit to hear. Although Anthems of Rebellion is probably one of my favourite albums from them the new shit has been seriously disappointing.
Used to be one of my favourite bands and after seeing them live the other year i made up my mind early about missing them this year.
Not that they were bad, just there material isn't worth going to watch yet alone ticket price.
-
Well, they're gonna be playing lots of the old stuff apparently, due to the release of the new CD.
I am going to go.... hopefully they won't suck so badly in live environment with Angela using less effects and the sound of the instruments being more raw as opposed to the homogenised, purified, sanitised rubbish sound of the new CD.
(I am going to put on Black Earth and try to forget that this new CD even exists)
