Title: Global Metal Cuture vs Perth
Post by: Archangel on December 20, 2009, 09:07:45 PM
I just watched Sam Dunn's Global Metal (Thanks for the tip Daz) and it made me realise how full of shit half the things i think about metal are:

Elitism.  You're not awesome if you hate shit.
Bogans. You're not awesome if you don't read books.
Image. If you aren't having fun because you wanna look cool then you are a fuckhead.
Sound.  How many time have heard I really like <insert local metal act> but they sound too <insert international band/genre/country>
Racism. Sure, Indians annoy us all, but there are indians that annoy metalhead indians as well.   ;)

Just kidding on the last one, but i just realised i'm probably as polarizing as anyone is some of these things.  I hate American metal, i hate emo kids that come to our shows and do those fly-kicky thingies, i hate the kid that is wearing a Dark Throne shirt that comes up to me and asks me where Immortal are from.  I hate the "I love these guys simply because only two other people in the world have heard of them" conversations. I hate the "How the fuck could any music come from anywhere but a burnt church cemetary hidden under the icy canopy of a frostbitten forest.."

BUT.

More than ANY of those things.  I hate generic societies that conform individuals though cultural expectations, and everyday things that take place in ouyr "advancing world" I hate the "fuck my internet died i need tech help, what what fucking language are you speaking am i just talking to a computer with an indian accent???" moments... where you just wanna grab the poor souless fucker on the other end of the line and yell "Think man, Think for yourself and be free" while shaking him so viciously his teeth rattle, only to watch him step off, straighten his four cent tie and two cent business shirt and calmly return to his seat in a hastily erected office space...

If metal teaches us anything, it is this.  There is more to people than the collective expectation of a mass of invented ideals and historical repetition.

that, is why all those things above don't matter, even in a tiny village full of peasants called Perth.

Because metal is fucking cool.

Just getting in before someone says 'cool story bro'.

You clearly have a problem with people for subcontinental Asia.

You realise you managed to make yourself sound elitist, bogan and racist whilst supposedly being against those things right?

Just for good measure, I'm sure if you started a band it would be focused on image and sound like some weak international act too.

Get off my fucking lawn.
