AUSSIE EURO TOUR 2010

European festivals map!

Preparations of the Odyssey, in as much as buying a plane ticket, should start being put in motion if you're keen to head over to Europe for another fine summer of metal, beer and hangin' out with sick cunts!

Here's a quick run-down of the festivals that are a mix of the familiar and some new ones I've heard about in the past month or two that might be worth checking out.

There is also no way that I'm typing out all the bands playing at all these festivals. If you're interested, click the damn link :P I'm also missing a fair few festivals, but I'll add to it later to make it a more.

I should also mention that I'll be going to the Nurburg Nordschleife this year.

(https://www.wf.com.au/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.xinu.nl%2Fautosport%2Fimages%2Fnordschleife-map.jpg&hash=64df0bc73570266e55af202508665ee491dfd92f)

Nurburgring for Dummies (http://www.heiser.net/documents/nurburgring/)

Quote
Despite masterfully dominating a rain-drenched Formula One race there, Jackie Stewart called it "The Green Hell" without any sense of irony. For over eighty years N?rburgring Nordschleife has stood as the definitive one-lap test of man and machine, becomming a Mecca for automotive enthusiasts worldwide. There is nothing else even remotely like it in the world. Nestled among the endless dark green trees of the Eifel mountains in western Germany, this 13-mile circuit is arguably the most difficult and dangerous track anywhere in the world?and despite that, it's open to the public! Truly a gift only the Germans could give us.

The Nordschleife (literally, northern loop) features sweeping curves, variable surfaces, rapidly changing weather, dramatic climbs and drops, and a straightaway over a mile long where terminal speeds can be reached. It is the yardstick by which all production cars are measured. It is as unique as it is overwhelming. There may be other tracks, but there is only one N?rburgring.

In short, it's the worlds longest, most difficult and deadliest race course in the world. It's also a toll-boothed, open speed limit public road!

And this won't be a visit, I'm going to rent a race-prepared sports car and drive; something I've wanted to do since I was a kid. If you're down with that, let me know as I've already got 2 other mates interested.

doing Wacken, Sonisphere UK and 14 day Contiki. Pretty much gonna drop a big aussie flag in the camp site, and hope to find some other aussies out there!

Also add in Obscene Extreme and Brutal Assault.  If I can magically come up with $8000 before June I'll be going.  But I might once again have to give it a miss.  Probably only want to do Metal Camp and Party San again anyway.

Another OP update with a few more festivals. The big update comes from a G'Map I've whipped up with the currently listed festivals on display to make it a bit easier to get your head around where and when fests are on.

Hypocrisy, Pain, Bloodbath... All with Peter :o

Mastadon, Satyricon, Testament, Overkill, Cannibal Corpse, Obituary, Devin Townsend, Megadeth, Nile...

Plus it's in a bit of a window, 2nd of July to the 4th (juuuust before Metal Camp). I'm totally going with a line up that BLAZING hot, anyone else?? ;D

Oh and I'll be at Metalcamp, Kaltenbach, Wacken and maybe Summer Breeze.

So far I'm looking at Hellfest, Tuska, Metalcamp + Magic Circle, (maybe) Kaltenbach, Dong, Stonehenge aaaand Party San to wrap things up.

All reasonably small except for Hellfest and Metal Camp, very noice :)

1 x direct flight 4/7/10 from Helsinki - Ljubljana dep: 17:00 arrive 18:40, so depending on buses / trains to tolmin, it would be possible... BUT flight alone will cost $1500 :P

http://www.skyscanner.net/flights/hel/lju/100704/airfares-to-ljubljana-from-helsinki-vantaa-in-july-2010.html

Helsinki to Munich..... $1430 PLUS overnight stay in munich / ljubljana + plus train etc to tolmin.... "almost makes the above option worthwhile". :P

Maybe fly from helsinki to croatia (split) and then train up?

http://www.skyscanner.net/flights/hel/spu/100704/airfares-to-split-from-helsinki-vantaa-in-july-2010.html

All options sounds like a mission / ridiculously expensive - GOOD LUCK!!!! :-P

1 month and 2 days before im off... YEEEEEHAAAAWWWWW!!! ;D

It's doable for about $350 (including flights, bus, accomo overnight in some POS Venesian ghetto), much to the disagreement of SODs analysis :P But if I were to do it, I'd have to leave fairly early on the 3rd night which may or may not suck big-time. Plus I'm starting to get flashbacks from when we tried to go from Dessel to Ljubljana last year :o I think I promised myself then that I wouldn't do a similar epic travel mission post-festival ever again, so I'm still deciding if the Tuska line up is worth it. I've just got a decent amount of time to kill in between Hellfest and Metal Camp and I haven't been to Scandinavia yet sooooo

Title: Re: Aussie Euro Tour 2010
Post by: Teeman on February 24, 2010, 04:09:26 PM
Certainly :)

Upon further investigation I've actually come up with a better alternative, so I'll show both. First one involves a stay over in Stockholm, not Venice (my mistake)

#1
Helsinki - Stockholm (http://www.skyscanner.net/flights/results/hel/stoc/100704/selected-flights.html?owfc=stau*hel1007041755*sk*0*arn1007041755&oqrid=stauhel%20stoc100704)  $200.90
4th July 17:55 - 17:55 (gotta love the change in timezones)

Stay overnight

Stockholm - Venice Treviso (http://www.skyscanner.net/flights/results/stoc/tsf/100705/selected-flights.html?owfc=ryan*nyo1007050710*fr*0*tsf1007050935&oqrid=ryannyo%20tsf%20100705) $80.05
5th July 07:10 - 09:35

Venice Treviso to the main station on main-land Italy, enter Slovenia via Udine and Nova Gorica to Tolmin.

#2
Helsinki to Ljubljana via Copenhagen (http://www.skyscanner.net/flights/results/hel/stoc/100704/selected-flights.html?owfc=stau*hel1007041755*sk*0*arn1007041755&oqrid=stauhel%20stoc100704) $410.30
5th July 07:40(06:40) - 11:45

Then just hit the bus to Tolmin. There's a similar flight on the day before so thats an option too. A little bit more expensive, but the reduction in fuck around is spectacular so I reckon it'll be well worth the extra $money$ if I'm able to get out of Tuska nice and early Sunday morning.

Post by: Jimmy_Mate on February 24, 2010, 09:40:38 PM
You fucked up the link for the copenhagen flight (wrong link) :P

If ya dont mind flight hopping, why dont you just go:

$410.60
Depart: Sun 04 Jul 2010
17:55-17:55 1h Helsinki Vantaa (HEL) Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) SAS  SK6623
  3h 30 Connect in airport
21:25-23:55 2h 30 Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) Ljubljana (LJU) SAS  SK8905

http://www.skyscanner.net/flights/results/hel/lju/100704/selected-flights.html?owfc=stau*hel1007041755*sk*1*lju1007042355&oqrid=stauhel%20lju%20100704

The advantage of that is (i) same airline for initial / connecting flight with 3hrs difference between the two.... handy for if the initial flight is delayed, causing you to miss the connection, (ii) you end up in Ljubljana on the 4th..... can go to a hostel near the traino, sleep, wake up on the 5th, have breakfast and get whatever bus (or train) you fancy to Tolmin.....

:)

Depends on what night Hypocrisy are playing, really ;D

But it's good to know it's pretty do-able with a lot of it's hassle easily ironed out with a bit of research. The less borders I have to cross by bus the BETTER.

Not sure how many people are going to be in Europe this early, but I found a pretty sweet looking festival in West Germany that'll cater to the death and grind fans

DEATHFEAST OPEN AIR (http://www.deathfeast.de/de/deathzone.html)
10th June to 12th June

Suffocation, Prostitute Disfigurement, Haemorage, Cliteater, Dying Fetus, Necrophagist, Hail of Bullets, Axphyx, Grave, Sinister... Pretty damn solid line up :)

We worked out that if we're lazy no good drunk-all-the-time metalheads (natch) then we'll see about 100 bands over the three weeks. But if we put in some real effort we could see far more :D

OK slight plan-change on the N?rburgring. Because you need to be 25 to rent a car there, I'll be heading over there after Hellfest and driving it on my birthday! (24th June) :D

I'll be looking to stay at House Marvin (http://www.hausmarvin.de/en/rent2drive/preise.php) hotel in the mean time. Daily rental of a car starts at 495.00 EUR (a Renault Clio RS, the one I'll be renting) with a... *winces* 2,500.00 EUR bond. From what I understand it includes fuel etc, but I've sent them an email asking for details.

So if you're looking to come along, try not to have a crash :P

Is anybody going to Summer Breeze?

For those that do want to go but havent got a tik yet, the Summer Breeze site has sold out.  I have found a place that has only a few left, is anyone else interested?  Or is anyone selling tickets that would save me going through a German tattoo shop?

Nice work ;) If you're looking to hit up Hamburg before Wacken (as I'm intending to do because it's a great town, even though I'm taking a pass on Wacken), let it be known so you're kept in the loop of accommo bookings

The best 3 words you can learn in German.  For those of you who don't know what that is, the translation is: Penis, Cunt, Arse.
