Personally, Im a fan of AVG. Small, powerful, yet doesnt cripple your system and become the virus, unlike Norton, Symantec, etc.
Having said that, Windows 7 is already a lot more secure than XP or Vista.

Yeah I downloaded the free one with a 30 day trial of the full version, so we will see how it goes :)

Microsoft Security Essentials.
It's free, intergrates into Windows products easily (win 7 especially), is constantly updated, requires very little system resources to run, handles Anti Virus, Spyware, Adware, Malware all in one program.
Is also a better alternative to the free AVG.

I believe Norton and Symantec are essentially the same... well, Norton is a trademark/product of Symantec, a company.
Oh yeah, if you didn't know Bailey, you have (or had) one of those MSN spam viruses that sends those automated messages about having photos on some obviously dodgy website link. Just letting you know. :P

The only problem I see with the Windows one is that every Microsoft hating hacker worth his salt will be out to fuck it in the ass with barbed wire. They care a lot less about AVG though.

AVG started screwing up on my Vista PC a while back, switched to Avast, another freebie and haven't had an issue...

Chances of people finding exploits in the actual virus protection software are very slim, doesn't happen very often at all. I don't think we will see the Microsoft Virus software being targetted too much, they will still target the OS and IE though, as they always do.

Yeah, Norton is a line of products directed towards the home users made by Symantec.
Also bailey, just change your passwords on your msn/hotmail accounts, and that will sort out most of the MSn spam stuff :)

Sounds about right actually... it usually happens when you (or whoever the spam is coming from) is "offline"... so I'd say whoever/whatever sends the spam signs into the account with the "appear offline" setting, when the actual user is offline. As such, I figure it's an issue of compromised account details, rather than a local security issue.
