Hey folks,
The question yearns to be discussed...
What is your favourite venue for metal/rock gigs and what makes them appeal to you?
Even if its overseas or in another state please share...
-
I'll stick with here for now.
I thought "Heat" was a really good venue. Had a good vibe. Good setup, stage etc.
I think that could really be a good thing down there if given the chance.
Or was that the Castle? na na, it was Heat. :P

Hydey RIP..
I still like Amplifier & the Civic is actually not that bad.
-
Charles was really good, Civic, Rosemount too
Just good layout at the Charles. Nice Beer Garden at the Rosemount same with Civic.
-
Can't beat a good underground, low ceiling venue. Sadly Perth doesn't have one but if memory serves me correctly I remember Rosies in Brisbane being pretty spot-on.
As for a great mid-large size venue, I found the Hifi bar in Melbourne to be spectacular.
-
Any venue that opens it's doors to metal is good. People that nitpick and whine are weak.
;D

Swan Basement fits that description perfectly.. not so sure that's what you mean though...

The Raffles River Room was a Great Venue.

Second that ;D ;D
Capitol/Amplifier for me. Only beef is the dope security who look like they'd give u important yoga lessons (im a yoga enthusiast).
-
I love the homely atmosphere of Capitol, not to mention it holds dear memories for me, having seen Carcass and Morbid Angel there.

There was also the Loft. Which was more of a Goth night club.

Never been
Wha? Never been to Swan Basement? The place has a cool vibe, I guess the problem is it's in Freo and the beer is horrendously expensive.
And by the way, low roof means bad sound.
-
The only time I've ever been to Swan Basement was when they had 2 dollar middies.
I've no idea what the place looks like.

in perth, The Castle, my second home.
(only attracts people there to see the bands not just get drunk, because its so underground that the general public don't know it exsists. so no random assholes walk in. always has rock or metal, so rarely plays dj nights of doom.)
In Grimsby/Cleethorpes England, Wintergardens, though I've heard it got demolished for more seafront accommodation or something :(
(used to go here for my cousin's band then started going there for random gigs. huge main room, friendly staff, saw InME play there once and the place was packed and still no assholes getting drunk n annoying me.)

my computer room

Ive always liked the vibe of the Newport.
Metros Freo/Perth are also good.
-
Metros freo and perth were setup for live shows really. Only problem is fuckhead bouncers. Newport is good too.

When I went there on a Saturday night the bartender was having a smoke outside because nobody was in the damn place

Best Venue ive ever been to would have to be Tavastia in Helsinki,Finland!! :headbang:
-
What about it was good dude?
Some people may be watching this space for hints for renovations,
spill the beans.

Whitesands Hotel - Scarborough
Well priced, long bar, great service, reasonable bouncers (save a few), pool tables, massive beer garden, room for 2 stages, nice and dark, good p.a and mix, away from trendys-hipsters, down the street from servo/bottleshop/food/beach/disaster's joint, Crab-wars and other boozing/smoking related shenannigans in the car park..
R.I.P Whitesands.
-
I've heard Crab Wars mentioned a few times in recent months. They seem to be remembered so fondly in the metal scene!
-
Civic, Rosemount, Heat, Charles.. rocket room would be okay if they actually renovated the stage area and make it bigger but they made it look fucking cunty.
-
I'll mention my favourite metal pubs I encountered on my travels seeing as we all know Perth's local hangouts to death!
LONDON: 'The Underground' for big name international bands every single fucking week, 'Electric Ballroom' a bad ass metal disco every friday, 'The Crobar' for dinking sessions with rock stars well into the next day and 'The Intrepid Fox' for a general metal hangout place every night of the week.
BERLIN: 'K17' for its many levels to choose from and the 'Halford pub' for cock rock enthusiasts
PRAGUE: 'Error' for sheer enigma qualities, lack of understanding of the english language, 1 euro jack daniels and enimating a 'hostel'- like atmosphere (for those who wish to be put completely out of their comfort zones!)
;D

Are there really any metal clubs in Perth anymore? Since the castle is closed down where does everyone hang out? Places like the basement and Rocketroom and all that are ok but they don't have a regular metal night. The eastern states have metal clubs, what about Perth? Is there just not enough demand for it or no interest?
