As revealed earlier in the month on FasterLouder, Metallica is making a return to Australia.
With Metallica taking to the stage for more than two hours, the tour will feature material drawn from throughout the band?s stellar career including the most recent album Death Magnetic.
The band will perform in the round in the centre of the arenas on a custom built stage and with full world tour production.
Drummer Lars Ulrich talked up the production back in October 2008, when the World Magnetic tour kicked off, ?[There?s] a big-ass fuckin? lighting rig above us, and there?s some pretty cool stuff up there. There?ll be some shit that turns on and off and some shit that blows up ? the usual stuff.?

Monday 18th October ? Entertainment Centre, Brisbane
Friday 22nd October ? Burswood Dome, Perth
Wednesday 10th November ? ACER Arena, Sydney
Monday 15th November ? Entertainment Centre, Adelaide

They are allowing room for extra shows and they are probably having a two week break in between to head back home. That's what they have been doing for this whole tour.

I got spun the fuck out last night. Driving to the shop to get bread and milk and shit I was listening to Binge and Purge on my ipod when the battery ran flat. I flicked on to the radio (JJJ) and within 2 minutes they announced the tour as official with dates.

maybe the tickets that are sold out are only the ones that are allocated to these clubs/groups who got the chance to get in early. There was always bound to be a 2nd show, i can only go on what my mate says who organised this through some promoter, also tried to see who was supporting but they either dont know or wont say.

Rod Laver Arena and Burswood Dome can not support the weight of the speakers, lights, and coffins by hanging them from the ceiling. So there will be scaffolding to support these items. You can see examples of this scaffolding from previous shows here:

I 'saw' Metallica at the BDO and tickets were only $110 and that includes a heap of other bands (and no gay seating. Why you would want to sit and watch at a metal gig is beyond me)

I had my fair share of pit action, and I have found over the years its still quite fun just to sit/stand back and soak up the whole thing, rather than being caught in a mosh and spending more time trying to stand rather than actually watching the band. To me it all depends on the band. Metallica I got front row seats... main reason being is that my wife would have just given birth 2-3 weeks prior so a pit isnt the best idea for her. This will also be her first metal gig. Besides that, I want to take it all in and enjoy the spectacle that is Metallica.
Napalm in September on the other hand is one where being in the pit is a must!
dont get me wrong though.... If I wasnt taking the wife I would probably have got a pit ticket and gone nuts.

got my standing tix easy as, web site worked fine for me. our vocalist thought he got pit tix, then the ticketek email he got said he had grand stand tix, the fuck head clicked the wrong thing in the hurry to buy the tix!, to make it worse, this was at 12:01 and the pit tix hadnt even sold out at that point :rofl:

Yeah Lamb Of God plus Baroness are opening for Metallica. They also announced 2 more shows, one in Sydney and Melbourne for September 15th and 18th so that makes it 3 times that they are visiting Oz. Fucking nuts! I don't know if LOG and Baroness are opening for those two shows, that's still TBA but they are for the other shows. I plan on going to 8 of the shows around the country, gonna be awesome!

It was a pretty standard setlist but it wasn't surprising since it's the first gig of the Australian leg after two months off. Tonight they played Death, Holier, Justice, Unforgiven....but the show hasn't finished...yet.

And holy fuck the first 2 shows were awesome! What a fucking fantastic couple of days, seeing Metallica live!! After flying out on Tuesday night right after Soulfly I was pretty knackered by the time I got in so I slept in a bit and didnt get to the show until 1pm thinking there was gonna be a huge line, turned out there was hardly anyone there! What the fuck? and it was like that pretty much even after the doors were opened so I got a sweet spot on the rail between the two mics. Could not believe my luck, so much for Melbourne crowds The band were unbelievable, heavy and loud as fuck! Loved the laser show, the videos of it does not do it justice, I even saw lasers bouncing off Robs chrome guitar! And to further my luck, I managed to grab 3 pics from Kirk and rob, one from Rob which he pointed to me and thought I droppd it haha awesome! Lars didn't come to our area with drunksticks at the end of the show but he did get pretty close to us before Seek and Destroy started, I swear I could almost feel his danish breath lol
Second show I had a seat right at the back, great view of the whole venue and of the stage. I don't know if it was because of where I was sitting as opposed to being on the floor or if they just tweaked the sound or whatever but the second show sounded even better and the setlist was absolute killer! Anyway, great couple of shows, already I have seen Metallica as much in two days as I prevously had in 10 years lol cannot wait until October!
