Yeah like the title says. Who are the good bands around at the moment that are worth listening to. I only really care about the ones that have bothered to record some music and have some songs up for download somewhere. Who are the bands pulling people to venues. Btw, i dont want a list of B grade castle gigging bands with crappy demos, i want to hear some bands that are turning heads.
-
Just check out the bands list on WF dude and pick what sounds appealing...

Maybe those bands only care to play their stuff to people who can be bothered going to the gigs?

Ok, for some bands that have recently recorded an album, and are "turning heads" for one reason or another, and have songs that you can easily listen to online...
Neverborn (http://www.myspace.com/madnessmyfriend) (check out their Decimator album)
Chaos Divine (http://www.myspace.com/chaosisdivine) (check out their Avalon album)
Grave Forsaken (http://www.graveforsaken.com) (check out their Fight to the Death album)
Mhorgl (http://www.myspace.com/mhorgl) (check out their Antinomian album)
Lacrymae (http://www.myspace.com/lacrymae.au) (check out their Hallowed Design EP)
Shrapnel (http://www.myspace.com/shrapnelaustralia) (Check out their Hellbound album)
All also avaliable from www.ironguardianindustries.com :P

Local bands who I think are doing something different & doing it well:
Nexus http://www.myspace.com/nexusmetal (http://www.myspace.com/nexusmetal)
Progressive, Extreme, Technical, Weird.
Tangled Thoughts of Leaving http://www.myspace.com/ttol (http://www.myspace.com/ttol)
Beautiful, Haunting, Dark, Jazzy.
Khariot http://www.myspace.com/khariot (http://www.myspace.com/khariot)
If Atheist & Enslaved got together, smoke a heap of crack then had a kid... this would be the result.

Its not slamming you mate - more a fact that its a lot easier to tell whether you're going to like a band if you go watch them play live, some bands put out killer stuff on recordings but it may not translate live (and vice versa).
Welcome to WF anyway!

Why are you looking for decent bands when your standards are that low?

Ok, so Im assuming that was directed at me.
We heres your valid input: Ive always taken issue with people that feel that local music isnt worth seeing or is somehow inferior to the rest of the world's. There is great stuff being written and performed here that should be seen, and should be paid for when its released. To sit back and expect people to fill you in on whos who or throw you free music when you cant be bothered looking for it yourself shows that its you who has the attitude problem.
Seriously, go watch some bands and see what all the fuss is about. Join the community of followers and get excited about it!

You got that eh? See when you put it out like you just did, i understand where your coming from Damo, respect your opinion and thats all im going to say for the mean time.
A lot of the bands that were mentioned have their stuff up on Triple J Unearthed so kudos to them for throwing their stuff up there for people like me.

Not everyone has the same opportunity to get out to local gigs as the rest of us.
-
Durp you don't go to gigs? U r bad, I r gooder than u cos I go to dem. Your automatic dismissal of this guy before you even knew his motivations could be one of the reasons he doesn't go to gigs in the first place. Too many arrogant elitist assholes. For all you know he could have been trying to find out what were the best bands to go check out live and now you have just reminded him of the reason he hasn't been going and finding out himself.
-

Except he already pointed out pretty clearly that he couldn't be bothered going to gigs.
-
I'm pointing out pretty clearly this is a stupid thread.

Cmon Rowland you practically live in another state yet you still seem to manage to get down for gigs not to mention organising them.

Yeah fair enough :P
I don't have kids or a 9-5 job though. While I know a lot of people do have that, and still manage to regularily attend gigs, I also know a few metalheads who are unable to make it out as offten as they'd like. They still do from time to time though, but it can be tricky all the same.
However, if the guy has no intention on going to gigs, then that's the end of it. Some bands sound better live, some sound better on recordings. We can still give recommendations for each, without abusing him. Hopefully, he'll like the music enough to want to see some of it live, but until then, bagging him wont help draw him out.
-
Yes, just check the gigs section on this website and come down to whatever suites your fancy.
The 'scene' need your support if it's to survive, let alone improve.

Actually laughed when i read this. The arrogance is hilarious, but I'm not here to throw silly comebacks around, i actually wanted some insight on the scene these days.

Thats more true than what you would think.

Mmm maybe some people saw this thread as an opportunity to plug their bands and others didn't.
Did you find anything you like dude?
However the support is from people is just that..support.
Check out what you will dude and get in contact with the bands you like to buy their albums or what not...support their drug habits ya know ;)

Gotta support mine first though.
Yeah actually found a few good ones id forgotten about, Nexus, Voyager, Psychonaut, Grotesque, Neverborn.
And found a couple ive never heard of, Lacramae, Mhorgl.
-
Fair call.
Ah yer you chose some gooduns then.
As for the live thing, its more about going out and supporting the scene and hanging round/meeting people who are on the same trip as you.
If you were to go out into city/ northbridge, why go to some non metal orientated club when yo can be surrounded by booze loving metal breathing sick cunts and get to watch some quality bands aswell.
I hear some pretty crazy after parties happen after gigs as well :)
-
