Haha, how good is Video Hits sponsoring an event they would play 5% of the bands on it.
Asking Alexandria ??!!!!  What exactly did they ask her?

Is Mike Portnoy from Dream Theater playing with Avenged Sevenfold, I know he has been recording with them (He was their old drummers RIP all time favourite drummer)?

How much is 10 pounds in aussie dollars these days? An online fan club membership is 10 pounds. I want to try and get tickets to the Sydney sideshow.

I seem to be one of the few that is disappointed by this lineup. Maiden aside (who I'm not a huge fan of), there is very little worth my time. If there were a few good bands announced in the second round, then maybe QOTSA, Kylsea and Maiden along with the other bands would make a decent day, but at this stage, definitely not going.

It's good that they have more focus on metal with Iron Maiden and Slayer.

Personally I'm looking forward to 36 Crazyfists and even Ill Nino. Terror are great live. High on Fire will be cool too. Rob Zombie, Stone Sour, All that remains...all pretty cool.

Much better than last year and still heaps to go.

in totality its a chance to see bands that u would normally not spend the money on if they did a solo show - like Stone Sour, Melvins, QotSA, Zombie, Kylesa, The Sword, Monster Magnet, Gang Of Four...

but finally coz i missed the last one - Iron Maiden!
and never fucken thought i would see them but i fuckin LOVE PRIMUS!  :headbang: ...actually contemplating the fact i will see Primus in a few months is blowing my mind.
Slayer again, which is always good. fuckin good on em for doing regular trips down.
High On Fire - which is the band i bet is going to be the main band for me. never thought i would ever get to see them, same like Baroness last year.

Primus & High On Fire. stupidly awesome!

There is a second announcement still to come of @ 10 more bands I think.

But I'm there already - Maiden, QOTSA, Slayer, Melvins, High on Fire, Monster Magnet, The Sword, The Bronx, Gang of Four... fucking fantastic lineup.

Ok sent an email to the soundwave team about this problem and got this as a reply-
"We?re experiencing some difficulties with the new site. As as interim solution, when you are filling out your State in the Register a new account section, use the TAB button to move to the Captcha field and again (once the Captcha code is entered) to move to final step and hit enter."

With reunited 90's rockers Alice In Chains, Faith No More and Jane's Addiction in previous Soundwave line-ups, could Soundgarden be next?

Quote
According to Australia's long-running rock station Triple M, the reunited SOUNDGARDEN will be doing shows in the country in 2011.

The station's music reporter Nui Te Koha revealed that Australian promoters were at this past weekend's Lollapalooza festival in Chicago "trying to lock down these dates but it will happen early this year."

When pressed for exact timings, Nui said it will be "January, February, March next year."

According to The Pulse of Radio, SOUNDGARDEN returned to the big stage this past weekend to close out Chicago's Lollapalooza festival, and in the words of vocalist Chris Cornell ? they are back. In between performing such songs as "Blow Up the Outside World", "Let Me Drown" and "Rusty Cage", Cornell told the crowd, "It's good to be back! We just took a little break, but now we're back." That "little break" was more like 13 years, and the group seemed to have made a big return based on the overall flattering concert reviews from Sunday's (August 8) show.

Rolling Stone described SOUNDGARDEN's songs as "epic," noting, "There were no special effects during SOUNDGARDEN's performance on the last night of Lollapalooza ? no lasers, no costume changes, no props or hydraulics . . . But the band didn't need any added visuals: SOUNDGARDEN delivered an explosive set of classic '90s songs in front of their biggest audience since their breakup 13 years ago." Spin noted, "SOUNDGARDEN have always been good at big ? even their ballads are apocalyptic epics perfectly unsuited to lighter-waving."

The Lollapalooza festival marked SOUNDGARDEN's third gig since the reunion was announced in January. The band will release a hits collection called "Telephantasm" on September 28. There's no word on what will come next. Cornell recently told USA Today that the group is taking its return one day at a time, saying, "I think our goal now is to do what we always wanted to do, which is to ? at our own pace and in our own time ? just do what we want when we want to do it. Whether it's shows, songs, whatever it might be, records, we'll know when we get there."

* Thieved from Blabbermouth.net[/size

Could be for the Big Day Out, or their own headlining tour, but they'd be ideal to follow suit.

SAXON!

Quote
Joining Iron Maiden and Queens Of The Stone Age as our headliners is ONE DAY AS A LION, the explosive collaboration between Rage Against The Machine front-man Zack de la Rocha and former Mars Volta drummer Jon Theodore. Their set at the Fuji Festival this year was the undisputed highlight of the festival and we are proud to have secured not 1, but 5 rare appearances by this artist.

Rounding out our new arrivals are triumphant recent visitors BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE and BRING ME THE HORIZON; horror punk killers, THE MURDERDOLLS; legendary metal monster DIMMU BORGIR making their Australian debut; punk rock gods MILLENCOLIN presenting their seminal album Pennybridge Pioneers (and more); prog rock?s finest flag fliers COHEED & CAMBRIA; and a band whose amazing live shows needs little introduction to Australian audiences, THE AMITY AFFLICTION.

Add to that SILVERSTEIN, FUCKED UP, FEEDER, H2O, SAXON, THE ROCKET SUMMER, WE THE KINGS and you have an announcement worthy of being its own festival!

Soundwave Festival has announced that they will changing the venue for their Perth event next year.

The Festival issued the following statement this evening:

Due to the huge growth Soundwave has experienced recently withrecord early ticket sales and lateness of the Labour Day weekend encroaching on the Western Australian Football League season, it is with regret that we must move on from our current home at Steel Blue Oval in Bassendean.

Soundwave would like to thank the Town of Bassendean, the Swan Districts Football Club and the people of Bassendean for their terrific support of the Festival over the past few years. Without the support of the local community Soundwave would not have enjoyed such a meteoric rise in Western Australia and for that we are eternally grateful to all in sundry.

We will be announcing an exciting new venue in Perth soon so stay tuned for further details.

Maybe everyone on Stage 4 can play later now, no more Avenged Sevenfold

Quote
Orange County, California's AVENGED SEVENFOLD has pulled out of the 2011 edition of Australia's Soundwave festival, set to take place in late February/early March.

The band's official statement on the matter reads as follows:

"AVENGED SEVENFOLD regretfully announce they will not be performing at the upcoming Soundwave in Australia. After much effort, the band decided that they could not offer fans the live experience they have come to expect and didn?t want to disappoint them. AVENGED SEVENFOLD will return to Australia soon to headline their own tour."

Soundwave festival dates are as follows:

Feb. 26 - Brisbane, Showgrounds
Feb. 27 - Sydney, Eastern Creek Raceway
Mar. 04 - Melbourne, Showgrounds
Mar. 05 - Adelaide, Bonython Park
Mar. 07 - Perth, Steel Blue Oval

AJ Maddah, who is responsible for organizing Australia's Soundwave festival, has slammed AVENGED SEVENFOLD for allegedly refusing to play during the day or clash with festival headliners IRON MAIDEN, despite being billed in tenth place on the lineup poster.

In a series of comments posted on Twitter, Maddah said, "AVENGED have decided, despite having originally confirmed a mid-afternoon spot, that they are now unwilling to play unless it is night time. At the same time, they are refusing to play at the same time as MAIDEN? In other words, they want MAIDEN to play in the afternoon!

"While AVENGED are a massive band, having sold around 8,000 copies of their new album nationally, I won't be able to move MAIDEN's time slot. I have now reached the point where I can no longer mess around 70 other bands and 180,000 ticket holders to appease this band's nonsense. I have every expectation that they will go back on their agreement and cancel."

I just hope this doesn't mean someone good will move into the Iron Maiden clash.

If you listen carefully you can hear the sounds of emo's wailing and wrists slitting with this wonderful news !
Christmas has come early.

Bring Soundgarden over in their place since they we're snubbed from the BDO.

I saw a LIVE set of Slash's the other night on MTV. I hope they dont bring that singer whoever he was, he was awful.

Slayer and Slash at the same time, lame.

Apparently there's murmurs (on the soundwave forum) that they may swap Slash's timeslot with the band before him to avoid the Slayer clash, which is great, until you realise it brings Slash into a direct clash with Dimmu Borgir...

Having seen Slayer twice and given there's even an overlap with the original timetable so as it stands I could still catch the last 20 mins of Slayer anyway, this change would bring about a far worse clash for me.

ON the Soundwave forum today.

Since Soundwave festival announced back in September last year that they would be moving from the Steel Blue Oval in Bassendean to avoid a clash with the Western Australian Football League preseason training, there has been much speculation, and concern, about the location of the Perth leg of the festival.

Well, we can finally confirm that the festival will be held at the Claremont Showgrounds ? the same venue that hosted the Big Day Out over the weekend.

Title: Slayer's Jeff Hanneman to sit out Australian dates.
Post by: BaileyHorizon on February 13, 2011, 05:59:36 PM
Quote
Jeff Hanneman, guitarist and founding member of SLAYER, was hospitalized late last month where he underwent emergency surgery on his right arm after contracting a serious infection, according to his bandmates Kerry King, Tom Araya and Dave Lombardo.

While Hanneman's doctors were not able to definitively identify the infection's origin, they diagnosed necrotizing fasciitis, and indicated it likely was rooted in a spider bite. The guitarist is now recuperating at home, has already begun the process of subsequent medical procedures including skin grafts, and is expected to make a full recovery.

In light of this situation and SLAYER's upcoming participation in the Australian Soundwave Festival tour that is set to kick off on February 26, the band has made the tough decision to play the dates without Hanneman, and will bring on a guest guitarist to fill in for him until such time as he has fully recuperated and is ready to return to the lineup. The band will announce details about the guest guitarist shortly.

"Jeff is our brother, we've all been friends and together as a band for almost 30 years," said Araya, "so we just want him to completely recover as soon as possible."

"After everything that happened last year," King added, "we all agreed that we just can't let our fans down again," referring to Araya's severe back and neck pain that prompted his January 2010 surgery, unfortunately leading to the band's postponement or cancellation of numerous shows in 2009 and 2010. "Jeff is totally on board with this decision, so we will tour as planned. At this point, we can't pinpoint exactly what day he'll be back, but he'll be back as soon as he possibly can. And we can't wait for Jeff to get better and get his ass back on the road."

According to WebMD, necrotizing fasciitis is an infection caused by bacteria. It can destroy skin, fat, and the tissue covering the muscles. The disease sometimes is called "flesh-eating" bacteria. When it occurs on the genitals, it is called Fournier gangrene.

SLAYER has recruited Gary Holt (pictured below) from veteran San Francisco Bay Area thrashers EXODUS to be SLAYER's guest guitarist, temporary filling in for Jeff Hanneman who is currently recovering from surgery. Holt will immediately join Tom Araya (bass, vocals), Kerry King (guitar) and Dave Lombardo (drums) for their five-date Australian Soundwave Festival tour that begins February 26.

Ex-Iron Maiden singer faces jail for benefit fraud

(AFP) ? 6 days ago

LONDON ? Former Iron Maiden lead singer Paul Di'Anno is facing jail after admitting fraudulent welfare claims, newspapers reports said.

He admitted having claimed ?45,479 after saying that nerve damage to his back prevented him from working.

The Department of Work and Pensions found out he had toured from 2002 to 2008 -- while claiming incapacity benefit, housing benefit and local authority tax payments.

The tattooed rocker was arrested last year on arriving back at London Heathrow Airport.

At Salisbury Crown Court in southwest England, he was bailed to return for sentencing on March 11.

"Prepare yourself for a prison sentence," judge Andrew Barnett told him told the singer.

Di'Anno, real name Paul Andrews, sang on the British heavy metal godfathers' first two albums "Iron Maiden" (1980) and "Killers" (1981).

The 52-year-old co-wrote songs including "Remember Tomorrow", "Running Free" and title track "Killers" before being sacked and replaced by Bruce Dickinson.

I've never seen sniffer dogs at Soundwave before, though i didn't go last year.

SLAYER didn't play today in Sydney because Tom is in hospital 'overnight'. They haven't said why.

yeah, I just heard from a mate over east (about Tom). Hopefully he comes good. Didnt this happen last time? He didnt sing in Melbourne but when they got here he did (or at least, he tried to). The gig with Megadeth at Challenge I am talking about.

Quote from: fasterlouder.com.au
Slayer singer Tom Araya has been hospitalized in Sydney, forcing the band to cancel their set at Soundwave.

No details about Araya?s injury or illness have been released, but the decision to cancel was made just moments before the band was due to hit the stage at the Sydney Showgrounds.

Just before 6pm, the festival?s promoter AJ Maddah tweeted ?Tom Araya has been taken to hospital. Slayer set looking unlikely today :(? but within five minutes ?unlikely? had been upgraded to a confirmation of the band?s cancellation with Maddah confirming that Araya will be kept in hospital overnight, forcing the cancelation of the band?s set.

Araya?s unexplained illness isn?t the only medical issue for Slayer at the moment ? the metal veterans are touring with Gary Holt from the Californian heavy metal band Exodus standing in for regular Slayer guitarist Jeff Hanneman who is recovering from surgery on his right arm.

According to Maddah Araya ?will be OK? for Slayer?s next scheduled performance is at Soundwave in Melbourne on Saturday 4th March

The Racket's Andrew Haug was facing the toughest gig of his life: telling several thousand Slayer fans that Tom Araya had fallen ill and their appearance at the Sydney Soundwave Festival had to be cancelled. The audience had been gathering before Stage 4 for most of the previous hour, giving Ill Nino a crowd they ordinarily would not have had. But when the thrash legends failed to front for their slot after almost 10 minutes, and the police moved into the crowd instead of standing well back as they had for the rest of the day, most of us knew something was up. And before Haug had even finished speaking ? he got as far as apologising for being the bearer of bad news ? bottles rained onto the stage. Disgusted and disappointed fans tore their Slayer shirts off and set them alight. A full garbage bin ended up on stage, and the hail of bottles continued for at least a quarter of an hour. Then that was it. Their frustration vented, some of them went home. Others just went to the bar to wait for Rob Zombie or Iron Maiden to come on

Typical Slayer bogans, burning Slayer shirts....... FAN FAIL!!

You can probably partially thank Slayer for getting them worked up. Aren't getting what you want? WWWAAAARRR EEENNNSEEEMBBLLE!!!!!! Haha. As much respect as I have for Slayer they are still a business and they didn't provide a service. They failed a contract with their customers. But these are customers who are paying to be in one the worlds most violent moshpits. They are already worked up. Imagine how worked up they'd be if the gig got cancelled! I'm not really surprised. Just lucky it didn't happen when they played in Perth for the first time. Then there would be some real trouble.

Its still childish and 'bogan'/herd like behaviour that makes metalheads look bad.

However I wish bands would go into better damage control for stuff like this. Getting Andrew Haug out is a bad start  :P

Its a cop out, but if that happened and the band (or some members) come out and say 'sorry its not happening, but we'l stick around and sign autographs/take photos' etc it might quell the rage of the more 'devoted' fans perhaps?

There's a good chance that they might be collected straight from the plane as there's no need for them to enter arrivals since it's a domestic flight. There is also still no firm plan as to where the plane will be parked while it's here. Anything is possible at this stage. By the time I know exactly what's happening it will be too late to post on WF as I'll be on the tarmac
Up to you...

Wouldnt they need to dispose of any honey, nuts or fruit at the airport first?  :P

As much respect as I have for Slayer they are still a business and they didn't provide a service. They failed a contract with their customers.

That would be true if it was a Slayer show, they are playing a Soundwave "festival" which they are a part of. You could make the same argument for Saxon, they never fronted.

Slayer played Melbourne SW yesterday and the turnout for them was huge. DEFINATLY should have had them on the main stage. $50 for Maiden, Slash and a few others shirts. $40 for Rob Zombie, SW and others.
Dunno how Bruce will go today in Adelaide as he was singing / screaming his ball bag off last night. Good to see all the emo kiddies hanging around & getting to see a REAL band in action.

The Rob Zombie sideshow was magic. As John 5 was playing his solo (he can play too!) Rob was walking through the crowd with a spot light.

You raise an interesting point Steve. Slayer one of the worlds biggest metal bands prob #2 of the big four, a 25 year thrash legacy not on main stage, and have brought a cut down show, when One Day As A Lion a band with practically zip stock value are on the main stage is rather strange, they must have good negotiator as one reviewer said.

Yeah man, fuckn unbelievable. who the fuck organises shit like that?
It seemed like they had things ass about face with stage selection too.
its got me how the bands with less a following were using the big stages, when Devildriver, Slayer etc were out back.

Maiden were awesome, Bruce's voice was as good as ever.

I thought the FOH speakers blowing around in the wind (auto pan) was another epic fail.

Except for the Slayer Tragedy....I couldn't see a thing!!!!!  They'd earnt the big stage.
Saw Iron Maiden for the first time. Still not a band I can easily get into, but an amazing live show!!!!!
Never realized the awesomeness of Bruce's voice.
High on Fire were great! And Dimmu of course. Primus too!!!!
Yep, it seemed that organisation was a bit of a problem. I spend a good portion of the day ''Lining up for something or other''.

Lucky bastard!

Yeah awesome fucking day, had a fucking blast, The Sword was even better than last year when I saw them, great live band. Devildriver was great as usual, didnt recognise the bass player, what happened to Jon? Stone Sour were a bit of a disappointment, Slash was awesome but left early to get a good spot for Slayer, who fucking killed! Never headbanged so hard in my life, awesome crowd as well for that one. Saw some guy did a flip off the pit area and straight onto the floor over the rail head first. Fuck he was hurting after that! Rob Zombie was fucking unbelievable, crowd went nuts for them as well. Maiden kicked ass, was way far back though as by the time Zombie finished Maiden had started and the crowd was filled up. But good show from what I could see. Awesome day!

Had an absolute blast!!! Monster Magnet were great. Enjoyed Stone Sour but thought the sound was crap. Gotta love the wind swept sounds  I thought Slash kicked ass!! Even better was the dude selling cheap drinks at the bar during Slash's set. 3 beers for $10. Thank you kindly sir!! Slayer were amazing, Lombardo is a champ!!! Thought Gary did brilliant job too. I agree with the others though, Slayer should have been main stage. I ended up getting stuck behind a bloody tree and only being able to see half the stage. Still, had awesome time. Wanted to see Rob Zombie but decided to go straight to Maiden and get good spot. What can I say, Maiden are in top form as usual. Absolutely brilliant!!! Having seen them a few times now, I still enjoy them just as much every time. I was super impressed with the setlist!! Smile wont be wiped from my face for along time yet  :headbang:

I had a brilliant day. Here is a summary...

Devildriver - the first "proper" band I saw. They played great, the sound was great but its just not my style. Also when the singer basically did the complete opposite of what Tom Araya does by saying "if someone is in your way, just push them down" was pretty fucked. Dickhead.

All That Remains - certainly not my style, but tight and the singer was going off. He also went badly "off" when trying to sing clean.

Murderdolls - not what I expected at all. I was actually pleasantly surprised. It isnt metal per se, but it certainly wasnt bad, and their stage presence and getups definitely do their job. They look the part and they played well.

Primus - fucking gay. Aside from the last song, it was pathetic and they are defintely too old for this stuff. Everyone that was anywhere near me was complaining as well..... where was I standing? Right in the centre at the very front of stage 1, waiting an hour for.....

SLASH!! - the most surreal moment of my entire music life. I still cant get over it. Standing, dancing, moshing(ish), singing and screaming to the guy I have idolized for 19 years, and the whole time being close enough to see the sweat beads on his brow, and how badly faded his tattoos are. What a dream come true. Myles Kennedy totally ripped too. That guy is a true performer and suits Slash perfectly. In my eyes he was just as entertaining as Slash. He's like a mix of Axl and Sebastian Bach, but cooler. Looking through the wings I could see Sevendust and Devildriver watching and at one point they looked out at the crowd and were in awe. I didnt realize how big it actually was (since I was at the front) but from what I can gather, it was massive. Nightrain, Brownstone, Paradise City, Sweet Child - all expected songs, but total classics (all Appetite songs mind you) and also Mean Bone (from Snakepit) was cool as were the other random mix of Slash/VR songs. A great set, and something I will definitely never forget for as long as I live. Anyway, after barely being able to walk, I managed to scoot back over to stage 4, hoping to catch some pit action for....

Slayer - was very disappointing when I got there and realized that the "pit" pretty much went back to stage 4A. What a ridiculous set up. Decided that since I had seen them twice in the past (yes, thats seen; not just heard from a wind-blown distance) we would go and have a chill in the drinking area and catch the end of whatever band was playing.

30 Seconds to Mars - surprisingly enough I quite enjoyed what they did, even though we just treated it as nice background music while we chilled out. Covering War Pigs was way cool and made it all worth it. I still felt like a naughty kid wagging school walking away from Slayer, but I really couldnt give a fuck by that point in time.

I think I saw the first song of QOTSA before making my way back to stage 4 to watch Rob Zombie. I had a mate fly from Brisbane so he could watch Zombie with me, and my wife was hell keen, though she ended up not coming. I kind of felt obliged to watch him, and my wife has hammered him on the stereo enough for me to know at least his main songs. I wasnt overly excited. Then they started playing. MAN! They are one hell cool band. John 5 can totally shred despite looking like an emo version of Kieffer Sutherland on The Lost Boys. Joey Jordison is obviously a wicked drummer, and didnt disappoint, and Rob is the ultimate show man. Played all the classics. Thunderkiss was cool, and Supercharger Heaven was a surprise. More Human was a given, but was the song I was most looking forward to. House of 1000 Corpses went off, and naturally Dragula and Living Dead Girl were awesome and expected. I was actually more excited about the song he didnt play. That stupid fucking Sick Bubblegum (from Hellbilly Deluxe 2), which I hate and apparently he plays every single show (apparently except Perth). He played 4 White Zombie songs, which was not expected. I was very much impressed and to me was 2nd best gig of the entire show....

Maiden - really what more needs to be said? Its Maiden, and it was as awesome as ever. Im glad I had seen them when they came last time (Burswood) because it was a different and much more personal atmosphere, but it was great to see them on a huge stage with a monsterish crowd. Glad they brought Eddie too.

From what I heard they were tipping to get 40,000 people through the door, which is about 8000 more than Big Gay Out, so glad the metal crowd showed up in force and kicked the BDO in the nuts. No drink ticket system was also a plus, and the whole thing was quite well organized aside from Slayer being on stage 4 and not 1 or 2. Only regret is missing Dimmu Borgir, but I forfeited that to see Slash up close and personal, so its not really a regret I guess. It was a sacrifice that had to be made. All in all a very awesome and memorable day! Cant wait for next year.

I thought the same thing considering that you are told that kind of thing could get you removed. Another band is yelling out 'get drunk and smash shit motherfuckers'.  ::)

Good to see the metal crew out in force too.

Awesome day all round, except for Slayer being on that shitty stage.

My only gripe is with the lack of bar staff and all bars running out of beer by 3pm, had extreme gutrot from premixes today, not so good.

Stage setup was fucked.

At least at Blue Steel oval, if you rocked up late you could at least still see the stage. It was a bit annoying having fucking buildings impede my view of the stage.

Slash was alright, Slayer destroyed, Maiden was better live than on record.

Blue Steel Oval next year thanks.

Yeah, bar lines were terrible to say the least. Pretty much had to opt out of drinking until a little bit before Maiden, when the majority of the population migrated to the pit... otherwise, it was pretty much a choice of seeing a set, or getting a drink.

You want that many people at Steel Blue???

Was a good day. Terror and Ill Nino were the highlights for me. Similar to other people i didn't see Slayer because that stage was bullshit and I have seen them before so thought best to give it a miss.

Oh something for those of you that don't know..

'Soundwave Revolution is coming'. What it is we don't know but the best guess people are having is that it will be another smaller festival mid year maybe something the size of No Sleep Till..

You don't think it would be fun to watch a metal band while lounging around in a giant pool? Granted it would be more suitable for a private function than a large music festival.

no it would be fucking awesome. You could even bring your washing powder and dirty clothes and put them on "mosh cycle".

I just cant understand why you would want to go on that sizzler thing at Soundwave while there are bands on and shit. I guess there was patches where I didnt have much interesting to watch, but even the bands I dont like still entertained me. Live music is good regardless.

I wasn't much different than adventure world. ie. Wait in line for 4 hours for one thing while you miss out on all the other things that your ticket supposedly bought you. Luckily though I was in the VIP area, no waiting there.
