As always, Neverborn is trying a new bit of stage nonsense out tonight. If it works, it should be awesome. If not, a big waste of money. See yez there.

Big night. I swear that there were fights breaking out in the crowd while we were tearing up on stage.
There was at least one guy who'd had a bit much to drink and needed some time out.
Great show, big round of applause to all involved, including Lars Ulrich.

How does a compilation that was spelt incorrectly get the 2nd best release???
^^Rhetorical question^^
-
You aren't the only one who has never really rated us.
Then again, we didn't expect that many awards ourselves.
-
Oh Muscles, you big ball of vegan negativity.
You raise valid points, carry on.
:hmm:

maybe because people were showing their appreciation for the fact that someone was keen enough to get off their arse and put together a compilation to try and showcase what perth metal has to offer. I for one applaud Rowland for his efforts , and was torn between giving my vote to his compilation or to neverborns decimator.
-
Hey Daz,
Is there a possibility of a move next year toward pushing proper recognition for local metal bands through the WAMI awards, by integrating the WF Awards into the WAM awards, someway...somehow.
I know one of the reasons for the WFA's in the first place is the fact that WAM doesnt properly recognise Metal in Perth.
Maybe if you switch that thought around, the WFA's can be used to help achieve better recognition and/or proper representation of local metal for WAMI awards.
Interested to read any comments on this...

Yeah I agree!!! Easier to bitch and moan that no-one comes to gigs, venues are dropping off and the scene is stale, when you refuse to expand your horizons to attract more mainstream punters... or even people who never even thought there might be a local scene!! Keep it real, keep it UNDERGROUND!!!
:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
-
The scene is nowhere near underground enough.
-
keep it real!!!

I'd much rather give the votes to bands who have spent countless hours writing music and who have spent a large sum of money recording & pressing their material.
-
Well, lets just say that the point is moot anyway because it didn't win.
I support Rowland and his efforts 100% all the same, and can't wait to hear his next idea.
-
The guy put something together for the right reasons and in no way is that a bad thing.
I was merely questioning why such a high volume of punters would vote for a low budget compilation over say "Loose Screws" or "The Paradise Complex"..
I'm looking forward to perhaps a balck metal or grnidcore compitation in the near future :P
-
The Paradise Complex did get an honorable mention.
Thanx Daz for taking our bribes. :)
-

I know where you're coming from, and I was quite surprised the album even got nominated, yet alone Top 4. However, the way I'm looking at it, is that a vote for the compilation album was a vote for the whole scene in general, almost the "anti-popularity contest" vote. The "I want to pick more than one band" vote. While there were plenty of bands who weren't represented on the compilation, overall it was a decent cross section of the scene, and the fact that it was even nominated says a lot more about the strength of the scene in general.

What is Loose Screws?

I thought you of all people would be well learned about having a screw loose :P

I understand the concept but not exactly sure how it would work. The WAMI awards are voted by people that don't even understand a category, let alone what good bands are within a certain genre. (I've done industry voting in it before so I know how it works, and I've been in the same situation, not knowing what to vote for in categories I don't know the artists, or care for the most part). People end up voting for whatever name they might recognise the most, not necessarily the best. That's exactly why the rock/metal category is a joke (mostly because those two genres are stuck together).
I created the WF awards so that it would be metal heads voting for metal bands, and that bands that deserved the recognition got it. I'd be happy for the WF awards to replace the 'metal' WAMI award, but I can't see them wanting to do that.
I'm happy to hear whatever ideas people have.

I see both points, but I don't really see much harm in voting for a quality compilation, such as the Western Alliance one is.
I think it is a vote for all the bands involved on it, recognition for them and for something which is trying to promote both them and the metal scene in general.
The points about voting for bands that have spent countless hours writing and money on recording, and implying that the compilation was "low budget" I don't think are valid. The bands on the compilation put in the time writing the tracks, and spent the money getting decent recordings, or using ones from their own separate recordings.

"i was the president of the voting sucks comittee. i didnt get re-elected" ;D
i think any band who put the time in to record and release in perth, especially coz its perth, shuld get an award. or at least a bag of snickers or mars bars. :headbang:

That's true. I've seen at least 2 people from these boards in the last year alone. I need to get a work from home job.

I didn't even know they had an album. Was it launched at a gig?

they actually had quite an extensive promo campaign for this album, and yeah there was a gig followed by a minitour? (or maybe tour first...)

Gonna be a review too?

Hey Daz are we gonna see the tallied vote count like previous years? Always interesting.
-
Sorry, I was busy at the time and since then every time I've had the chance to come on I've been trying to keep spam at bay and updating the gig guide etc so this slipped my mind. Anyway, if anyone is still interested in seeing the full results you can see it via the menu link on the main page (or click here (http://www.wf.com.au/index.php?option=com_pollxt&Itemid=49)).
-
Seems there were some close races there.
-
There always is. So many good bands, everyone gets split between them.
-

haha, i know!

The Wardaemons are the only thing really going for black metal here. Perth needs more black metal that's good.
