Title: Cracked Top on my Martin Acoustic
Post by: Sindarion on October 13, 2010, 01:34:00 AM
I have a small crack on the spruce top of my Martin DX1R Acoustic.  Its between the tailpiece and the nut, where the two top spruce pieces join, and its about 1/2 mm wide.  It only rears its ugly head when it gets hot and dry, when its humid it seals back up again.

Now this guitar is a bit of a warhorse, its never been in a case in its life and I carry it around with me all over the place, sit under trees playing, etc.  Its not like I'm particularly precious about its looks, just the sound.  My question is twofold :

How hard is it to fix?

Is it likely to get worse (and be really bad) if I just ignore it?

Because at the moment it doesn't really bother me, but if its going to be really bad long term, I'll get it fixed.  It doesn't seem to be affecting the tone at all, sounds great as usual.
