Hello all!

My name is Daniel, from the local Perth progressive metal outfit 'Morphica'. In 2011/12 we played many shows to appreciative crowds, showcasing a wide variety of covers of some of the big named progressive metal icons, such as Dream Theater, Symphony X, Pain Of Salvation, and Haken. In 2013 other musical commitments forced us to take a hiatus. Now in 2014 we are back playing together again with a new focus on original music and a revived sense of enthusiasm. We recently performed at a successful show at the Amplifier Bar supporting our local metal fame 'Voyager'. Perhaps you were there and witnessed it yourself? In any case, we are beyond eager to push our music out there as far as we can but we may need your help to do so!

I am posting here today to announce that we are looking for a new vocalist to join in and move forward with us, and to help us create some great new progressive music. We are interested in hearing, and hearing from, any interested vocalists who would like to audition for the position. We have some previously recorded material from our prior demo release, linked below, which we would welcome you to listen to. Although we have already recorded material with a singer, who is no longer with us, we are open to variation in vocal style, and plan to write new songs with our next vocalist's nature and strengths in mind.

Of course, what we require in a vocalist is most likely self evident to those interested, and not unlike that of some of our influences already mentioned above, which we imagine any interested parties would appreciate and understand. That being said, we would prefer if you had:
- A strong appreciation of progressive metal and rock.
- A good sense of musical understanding, with regards to progressive staples like atypical rhythms and song structures.
- Prior experience in a band, and/or experience in a live performance environment.
- Sufficient availability to be able to commit to weekly or twice-weekly rehearsals, gigs and future recording and touring.

Anyone who is interested, can feel free to reply here, or SMS me at 0420353514. If you have any pre-recorded material or something similar that you would like to send to us, my email is daniel.parker@morphicaband.com.

Up for sale is a JTS wireless instrument system (http://www.jts.com.tw/_en/01_professional/01_detail.php?sid=563), which has served me well, but is no longer necessary, as I have moved to a rackmount wireless unit.

Comes complete with packaging and accessories. Cost $500 new, asking $300. Open to reasonable offers.

Feel free to PM me, reply here, or SMS me on 0420353514 if interested.

Equipment for sale / Bass amp head - Warwick PRO FET III 300W - SOLD
« on: January 26, 2012, 08:08:11 PM »
For sale is a Warwick PRO FET III 300W head, which I no longer need as I have moved on to a rackmount/power amp set up, and need to save up to buy a new cab.

Not in the greatest cosmetic condition, but otherwise totally functional.
- 5 band EQ with frequency sweepable mid-control, and low boost/high boost buttons, which can be placed pre or post DI.
- Input limiter
- XLR/Speakon out
- FX loop, tuner out and line out

Can't remember exactly how much I paid for it (bought it second hand), but I'll ask for $300, and am open to reasonable offers.

Unfortunately, I can't include a Speakon/XLR lead, as I only have one, which I need for my other amp, but they are readily available from most music stores and some electronics stores (Altronics, Jaycar, etc).

If interested, reply here or via SMS (0420353514)

UPDATE: Amp is sold... mods/admin, feel free to delete this thread.

FWIW, Perthbands.com has been down for a few days. I can only imagine it will stay that way for a good chunk on the year, and still win a WAMi award.

How is the stomach connected to our teeth?  By a complex system known as the blood stream  :P  - that's the logic behind it being good for our teeth.  Just like acidic and sugary liquids rot our teeth.

FWIW, I'm fairly sure that the teeth aren't connected to the blood stream in the sense that they could acquire vitamins/minerals/nutrients. Otherwise teeth could completely regenerate on their own and dentists would be bankrupt/mad/jelly. While it is true that enamel on the teeth can be remineralized naturally, this occurs via saliva (direct contact, not via digested foodstuffs), with the help of cells within the tooth structure known as "ameloblasts", and they diminish in number to practically zero after teeth have fully developed.

If there's an actual dental expert here, perhaps they would like to weigh in. Incidentally, I was at the dentist earlier today, so I totally could have asked. Fortunately, one of my friends is a dental nurse, so I'll ask her next time I cross paths.

Sounds like she should have stuck to copping it up the ass.

This applies to a lot of bands.

Such as Inanimacy? :P

Agreed :D

I suppose you would be the band's "pitcher"?

Recording doesn't need to be immaculate, man. Good quality is enough.

Yeah, I'm not referring to recording quality, I'm talking in terms of how the music actually sounds. "Ridiculously fucking good" is a very subjective term.

I think, despite the sarcastic exaggeration and expletives, the point is, the music needs to be tight and musically discernible, such that an audience could appreciate it, at least by its own merits, as opposed to being a one-mic, one-take demo recorded in your mum's garage, of the band's first attempt at performing the song together.

As such, there will be no tr00 blackmetal on this station.

And finally, SEVENTH SON which is Perth's very own Iron Maiden cover band (featuring SILENT KNIGHT lead vocalist Zoran Cunjak) who will kick off the evening with some high energy Maiden classics!

Also, just announced REAPERS RIDDLE will be joining in the mayhem on this event so get down and catch these guys you wont wanna miss it!

Stay tuned as we still have the headliners spot to announce in coming days!

Morden - The Best of Morden (3 Disc Set)

Hahaha what? I never noticed us releasing a 3 disc compilation? I don't even recall writing enough to completely fill one CD. I'll gladly accept this award though.

Props to the nomination of Cam from Cold Fate/Silent Knight though, he is indeed a phenomenal lead guitarist!

Hit me up with a copy of the recording man, we'll collab on that shit... I'll throw some neoclassical soloing over it, I bet you'd like it. It will raise the bar on pretension! We'll call it, "Stream Of Pretentiousness".

^ What Whammy said... I think it's more pretentious to make assumptions about things without objective evidence, as if to make oneself seem an expert at analyzing musicians, their music or anything for that matter.

Tell me, what criteria make a piece of music pretentious?
I don't think demonstration of technical faculty in music is instantly pretentious... perhaps if it's happening all the time, in the absence of enjoyable songwriting (which is subjective to some extent), but in the case of Symphony X, I'd have to call them one of the few bands that actually do write interesting stuff, despite their ability to rip out >9000 nps solos. Michael Romeo backs off from the spotlight quite often in the music, which is more than I can say for average guitarists in countless average bands. They also have plenty of parts in their material that aren't particularly hard to play. Plenty of musicians have a technical skill ceiling above the material they play, so if they really were pretentious on the account of showing off, wouldn't they be keeping the frets on fire non-stop?

FWIW, I used to frequent the Symphony X forums on UM, and quite a few posters there have met with the members of Symphony X personally, and vouch for their down-to-earth humility and friendliness.

While I do realize this is classic (and to be expected) nihilist trollery, you're right that it is fun to inspire philosophical debate. :p
Though I understand you're safe from criticism in that you don't confess to play any musical instruments, I can't help but notice an almost perfect correlation between musos who complain/attack/whine about any trace of technicality in music, and those who can't play their instruments to a comparable level. Discuss?
