General discussion / Abandoned Facebook
« on: February 17, 2022, 09:15:28 PM »
Hey guys you know who I am.

I've abandoned Facebook a month or so ago and am keen to get the forums up and running again.  A lot easier to communicate and less of a vile place to be than social media.  Probably won't work out but would be nice to see.  Plus less government tracking and 0 censorship, so win/win in my opinion.  Looking forward to the response in 6 years time :)

Just booked flights to this bad boy and want to find out what hotel everyone is staying at.  Would be good if we could all party in the same location

Full points for effort, but I don't like your chances. In the last few years ALL of the metal forums in Australia have died - Brismetal, Metalshop, Deflection 7, AUBM, Metal Obsession, etc. Everyone's moved to Facebook. Reason? Facebook is more versatile and among other things takes care of one important flaw of a web forum - trolling. Remember The Gates of Hell forum? Yes yes, I have been on either side of it myself, blah blah, but I can see how the average person would gravitate towards the more positive environment facebook provides. In the very least if you have witnessed it, you can be sure to have witnessed an era.

RIP, the metal forum.

Initially Facebook was the awesome new shiny thing that dragged everyone away from metal forums since it was a lot more versatile and friendlier.  But things have definitely changed with that site.  If you were looking to escape the trolling its 1000x worse there.  It has even sparked on a new level of trolling which the media has dubbed "cyber bullying" which never really existed to the same level until Facebook became a massive thing.  Don't get me wrong, I love a good dig at my mates like anyone else but Facebook has become so wrapped up in self-obsession its practically become its own entity.  To me its no longer fun to go on there and now has become part of the daily routine like checking your emails, emptying the bins and taking a dump.

I barely post on there now even to troll my mates, since its just become so mundane.  SelfishBook has had its time, at least for me.  I think I've just kinda grown out of the whole "look at me and what I did today that no one ever cared about anyway" thing.  I'd rather just come on here and talk about the latest (insert random underground band name here) album and how awesome last weekends gig was.  Cause basically that's all the excites me anyway in my boring as fuck daily life.  The only thing this forum is lacking is a fucking "like" button.  I keep wanting to "like" peoples comments

Damn it!! It's too bad that we will still be working on the EP during this time else Inanimacy would definitely want a spot on this.  But you have our full support on this venture and good luck to the bands that make it on this.  This is an opportunity you do not want to pass up.

International / Re: MORBID ANGEL Album Title
« on: May 16, 2011, 07:48:21 AM »
Read the review, checked out the samples on Amazon and personally I don't understand what everyones so worried about.  Morbid Angel were always a death metal band based around thick bassy grooves (minus the first two albums) which is basically what this new album is delivering.  As much as I think it won't top the first four albums, I don't want this new one to sound exactly like them either.  Yes, a few of the tracks sound like duds, but to own an album where every track is a classic is rare, Altars of Madness being one of them.  And come on, the album is sounding better then Heretic already, so that's always a plus.  I don't think we should judge until we have heard the whole thing.

I don't think they are pulling a Cryptopsy on us.

Highly recommend this dude.  Very versatile and has a killer falsetto.  If no one snaps him up we fucking will.

Western Australia / Re: Western Front Awards '10/'11 - NOMINATIONS
« on: April 29, 2011, 03:08:52 AM »
That time again?  Fuck it's come quick.  Was about to nominate stuff from this year, then I remembered its for the year gone, so I'll try my best to remember

Best Local Band
1.  Sins of the Father (These guys have come along way since they debuted a few years ago.  Definitely a force to be reckoned with this year plus with that amazing album they brought out earlier this year)
2.  Enforce  (13 years on top and still going strong)
3.  Mhorgl  (This band has gigged the past year more then anyone and have gotten a hell of a lot more interesting to watch.  Massive thumbs up for effort)

Best Local Release (I assumed these could only be releases from 2010, so therefore no Sins, Khariot or Enforce which would be my choices from 2011)
1.  Wardaemonic - Echoes of Ageless Flames
2.  Mhorgl - Antinomian
3.  Shrapnel - Hellbound

Best Local Guitarist
1.  Dave Wratten (Gallows) - very under rated guitar player
2.  Geoff Eaton (Nexus)
3.  Rob Thorpe (Mhorgl, Shrapnel)

Best Local Drummer
1.  Louis Rando's Cane Furniture (Mhorgl, Nervecell) - the only guy locally who has truly made it, and well deserved to
2.  Dan Grainger (Nexus, Wardaeomonic, DFC) - very hard working individual
3.  Luke (Sins) - yes, he's not the most technical of players, but he sure is entertaining to watch and he makes every hit count!

Best Local Bassist
1.  Brad Trevaskis (Wardeamonic, DFC, Grotesque) - Easily the best bassist since Simon was forced to drop the strings
2.  Simon Muller (Grotesque) - RIP my friend........'s shoulder
3.  Darren Joy (Khariot) - A fucking Joy to watch.  See what I did there

Best Local Vox (would vote me, but I haven't done fuck all this past year)
1.  Jack Cressall (Sins) - impressive vocals, good stage presence, aggression. Yep all there.  Plus he's done a bit more locally then his bro this past year.
2.  Louis Rando's Solicitors (Shrapnel) - hate to say it, but a drummer is overshadowing a lot of local vocalists here.  Especially in the revving up the crowd department
3.  Matty FUCKING Goodone (Nails) - the range on this guy is fucking brutal.  Best death metal vocalist at the moment

Best Local Keys (who gives a fuck!  Same 3 people anyway every year)
1.  Jesse (CTT)
2.  Jizz (Neverborn)
3.  Danny (Voyager)

Only just realised this gig is in 33DD!!  Fuck yeah!

Jamie: PILLERMAN, FOTZE, ARSCH!

The best 3 words you can learn in German.  For those of you who don't know what that is, the translation is: Penis, Cunt, Arse.

... and here we go again.  How hard can it be to really find dedicated musos these days?  Been trying to start this band up for the best part of 8 months and once again we get up to writing 4 songs and now have to start from scratch cause our drummer has gone missing, presumed dead.

Anyways, what we have here is a modern death metal band in desperate need of someone who is decent and dedicated enough on drums.  If you can't be bothered playing at least once a week, preferably twice, then don't waste your time.  Technical ability is preferable but not essential as long as you can keep up with a thrashy kinda death metal beat.

We also would like to have a guitarist that has decent enough understanding of death metal to come up with exciting riffs/solos and be able to catch on pretty quick.  We don't want some newbie who we need to show every riff to 100 times before they catch on.  Also needs to be able to rehearse once to twice a week.

If you don't fit the criteria then please don't bother replying.  I want to get this band playing gigs by early next year so dedication is essential.

And please if you don't have anything to say about this then please don't reply.  Theres plenty of threads in General Discussion for you to fuck around in.  Thanks people.

Thanks for the review of the EP Jez.  It's nice to finally get some feedback and maybe a little bit of closure to what people thought of the EP.  It was definitely a rushed release and quite frankly we weren't very proud of it at the time.  I enjoy listening to it now every now and then though just as a reminder of the good times we had and as an accomplishment of something I never thought I'd achieve: releasing something from a band I was in.  I think all 4 of us really are achieving/have achieved greater things with our new projects then we did with the Alchemont.  A great stepping stone all the same.

Does it get exhausting defending your drummer all the time?

Yes.

Still going on about this band?  I gave up on them years ago.  Killer album but postponed their second album enough for me not to care anymore.
