In the hope of drawing out some new talent and giving them a go (although all bands welcome to apply), who wants to step up and open the show?

Unfortunately Natron have had to withdraw from the re-launch show featuring Christophe Szpajdel's exhibition, as well as metal guests Malignant Monster, Wardaemonic, Weapons & One Of None at the Rosemount Hotel on Saturday, 10th May.

This will be a great opportunity for exposure and to perform at one of Perth's best venues, so please share with your mates, or if your band is available then please forward your expression of interest with contact details and samples to supremelegion@iinet.net.au. Alternatively, provide a link to the band below.

The successful applicant will be announced next Friday, 2nd May. Even if you don't win, it's worth entering as the most impressive acts will be kept in mind to be apart of future events and promotions!

Western Australia / MAKE THEM SUFFER sign to RoadRunner Records Australia
« on: February 24, 2012, 07:19:50 PM »
Quote
Perth?s Deathcore, Black Metal hybrid Make Them Suffer have signed to Roadrunner Records Australia.

On the back of the bands stunning Lord Of Woe EP, Make Them Suffer were brought to the attention of Roadrunner A&R execs after posting their tracks on Roadrunner?s Sign Me To site: A destination for unsigned bands to have their music reviewed by fans, peers and Roadrunner staff.

It was at this point that Roadrunner were intrigued to see if Make Them Suffer could execute this unique blend of modern extreme metal, neo-classical strings, dark piano lines, razor sharp riffing, crazy blast beats and roaring vocals in the live environment.  Seeing the band up close in a small sweaty club immediately verified this in spades The band sounded as good live as their EP had promised with the multiple layers of each track finding space amongst the chaos and complexity.

Now in 2012, Make Them Suffer are preparing the impending release of their debut full-length album Neverbloom.  Engineered by Roland Lim (Birds of Tokyo), who also produced the band?s Lord Of Woe EP, Make Them Suffer and Roland have taken everything up a notch to deliver a world class debut release capturing the depth, darkness, musical prowess and brutality that is Make Them Suffer.

You can check out the preview trailer to Neverbloom here.

Congrats to MAKE THEM SUFFER, who are featured on the up-coming WesternFront.com.au Australian Metal Compilation available for FREE at the Soundwave festival in Perth on Monday, 5th March!

International / Mike Smith Leaves SUFFOCATION
« on: February 24, 2012, 07:11:03 PM »
Quote
It would seem that drummer Mike Smith has split with Suffocation ? and under less-than-amicable conditions. He?s posted the below message on both his official website and Facebook page:

?There are not many things related to the suffocation brand I can honestly say brings me sadness. Except, the lack of pride that exists within those who have the ?right? to claim the name as their own.

?This battle has been one that to any focused being, should make obvious sense but has evaded some for 2 decades. Within any foundation the weakest link will always cause all structure to crumble.

?The one fact that keeps me at peace is the fact that anyone who has ever seen or spoken to me regarding Suffocation and the industry as a whole, has always left with an understanding of the level of focus and pride that I personally hold for myself, the brand that is Suffocation and the genre We influence and helped create.

?As I?ve always said, if you are willing to put your time and soul towards anything at
Be willing to speak truths, fight and bleed for it if need be.?

While nowhere in this post does Smith say he?s out of the band, it?s hard to read that and think that things are hunky dory. Meanwhile, Heavy Blog is Heavy reports that guitarist Terrance Hobbs has confirmed Smith?s departure on Facebook, although presently I do not see any such posts on either Hobbs? nor Suffocation?s FB pages, so either that confirmation has since been removed, or I?m a dope.

In any case, this news is a bummer. Smith was, of course, a founding member of the legendary death metal act, and while he?s left once before, in the early 90s, at this point he?s been back in the band for almost ten years. His drumming is a huge part of their sound.

That being said, Suffocation has persevered without him before. Dave Culross, who replaced Smith?s original replacement Doug Bohn in 1996 has also played with Malevolent Creation and Pyrexia, amongst others, seems to have stepped in for Smith, and that dude is no slouch ? so it?s hard for me to imagine that Suffocation won?t be able to survive without their original drummer.

Suggestions / Improving WF
« on: February 18, 2012, 07:03:44 AM »
I just noticed the Facebook thingy added to the home page, which is a cool addition.

Any chance of one like that for the forum with an up-date on the forum topics, or even integrating the home page into the forum?

Seems like most of the news and activity happens in here, and it's just kind of double-handling, as well as time consuming, having to post the info in both the forum and main page sections (as well as Facebook) leaving the latter a little left behind...just a thought anyway.

Also, are there any aspiring writers/journalists who would be interested in becoming a contributor for album/gig reviews and features?

A few volunteers would be ideal, as it would be great to see articles regularly.

If any photographers or film production enthusiasts are keen, it would also be cool to see more photos and/or footage from WF supported events.

More members and contributors on the east coast would be excellent too!

Do you have any suggestions to help improve WF?

ANONYMOUS - Operation Black March YouTube Broadcast

Join Operation Black March.

With the continuing campaigns for Internet-censoring litigation such as SOPA, ACTA and PIPA, and the closure of sites such as Megaupload under allegations of "piracy" and "conspiracy", the time has come to take a stand against music-, film- and media companies' lobbyists.

The only way is to hit them where it truly hurts - their profit margins.

March 2012 is the end of the 1st quarter in economic reports worldwide.

Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy, Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a videogame. Do not buy a single book or magazine.

Wait the 4 weeks to buy them in April - see the film later, etc. Holding out for just 4 weeks, maximum, will leave a gaping hole in media and entertainment companies' profits for the 1st quarter, an economic hit which will in turn be observed by governments worldwide as stocks and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes.

This action can give a statement of intent:
We will NOT tolerate the Media Industries' lobbying for legistation which will censor the internet.

Regarding Black March: If you want to do something that makes a statement, consider shifting your money not only away from corporate media but to independent media.
Buy comics published by someone other than DC and Marvel. Buy books from small and independent presses. Support independent production companies who fight to stay independent and fan-focused.

Better yet, buy things directly from creators and artisans. Support independent retailers. Don't just blanket punish media producers and distributors ? refocus those resources into supporting the ones who espouse and depend on free exchange of information and ideas. Because those are the people preserving intellectual freedom. Those are the people creating work of substance. And those are the people struggling to make a living, because they aren't bankrolled by the Corporate Elite lobbying for SOPA, ACTA and PIPA.

Join the fight against ACTA, join Operation Black March. Legally or illegally, buy or download NOTHING for one month.

?Rockstar Productions' in conjunction with ?Riot! Entertainment', ?Metal Massacre.com.au'  and ?Metal Obsession.net' present the return to Australian shores of one of the most popular and charismatic acts of the genre; AMON AMARTH!
The ?Guardians of Asgard' are gracing our shores for the first time since their almost sold out national tour of Australia of 2009. Performing tracks of their latest chart busting album ?Surtur Rising' along with all the fan favourites, this tour has every indication that it will go the distance and perform to full houses in every venue. Well renowned to be one of the best live acts on the circuit, Amon Amarth never let their fans down and each show is nothing short of an adrenaline packed power punch to the solar plexus!

Having that truly unique ability to have a tremendous genre cross over fan base the band has a diehard following. What's not to like about Amon Amarth? Each album and each track has overwhelming appeal and one cannot help but to like, admire and crave more from these Viking Gods! Their latest album, ?Surtur Rising' offers ten tracks of fist-raising, peckflexing, hyper climactic fight anthems led by the fiery lungs of Johan Hegg, searing rhythms and a volatile twin riff assault with a courser, more organic-sounding production to add more depth to their already consuming tone. Each track writhes under the weight of  its own valiant heaviness with the band's signature Viking themes pulling it all together.

Supported by one of the most popular, talented, young and upcoming acts coming out of Australia, ?Orpheus' (not in Perth) this tour will be the opportunity to see and partake in an experience that will be life lasting and one that will forever be replayed and stored in each patrons memory bank.

What are you waiting for? Join the Norsemen on their Viking Assault of Australia and be part of the conquest in every capital city this April!

Tickets available from the Metal Massacre site on the 'Back in Stock' and 'New Release' sections. Get the jump on the rest of Australia as tickets from venues and outlets will not go on sale until late in the week commencing 30th Jan!

PRESS RELEASE: Heathen Skulls presents two undisputed legends of progressive metal!
Heathen Skulls are very proud to announce one of our most unique tours to date, this February we?ll be presenting the first ever Australian and New Zealand tour Scott Kelly and his beloved friend John Baizley, two undisputed legendary pioneers of all things progressive, metal, and doom!
For the first time EVER they?ll be banding together, hitting the road, and touring Australia as individual solo artists, a tour where both artists will respectfully present material from their vast back catalogues and future releases.

Scott Kelly (Neurosis / USA)
Hailing from Oakland, California, and making his mark on music way back in 1985 as one of three founding members of the legendary North American hardcore / metal band NEUROSIS, Scott Kelly has influenced a whole generation of musicians wanting to take heavy music into new realms of consciousness. Over the years Scott has also been involved with the Neurosis alter ego Tribes of Neurot, Blood and Time, the doom metal super group Shrinebuilder, and as a guest vocalist on Mastodons last four studio albums.
With two solo albums and countless European and US solo tours behind him, Scott Kelly will now finally make his mark on Australia soil, with non other than a acoustic in hand a songbook of 25 + years of experience!

John Baizley (Banoness / USA)
As the axe swinging vocalist, and founding member, of Savannah, Georgia, heavy weights of modern metal BARONESS, John Baizley has single handedly rewritten the law book that was once written by the likes of Neurosis, and become the new crowning king of artistically creditable progressive metal.
The benchmark he?s set as a musician is unquestionable, the impact he?s made is unmatched, and the quality of his work has become legendary! Then there?s John Baizley the graphic artist, which has gained him further critical acclaim due to it?s heavy ties with the scene he presently pioneers.
As an Australian first, not to mention a World first, John Baizley will be unplugging his millions of guitar pedals, packing up his full stack, and dusting off the acoustic he once left in the corner of the Baroness rehearsal room, to tour New Zealand and Australia as a solo artist.
With no solo releases of any respect to preview his material, the only way fans are going to get to hear his solo material will be at these exclusive solo shows.

Welcome to The Night Of Mayhem 5. This is one KILLER line up, featuring Perth's Melodic Metal Band, Empires Laid Waste, who are promoting their third, latest released, kick ass Album ''With The Tide Comes Destruction''. Also will be the aggressive, in your face Thrashers, Death Dependant. The Classic old school Metal of, Prisioners Of Faith and opening will be Bunbury's Metalcore newcomers, Broken Silence.

Also on a sad note, Death Dependant's Lead Guitarist, Matt (duco) Lucas will be leaving the band because of work obligations. This will be his final show so lets all get down there and help celebrate his time with us.
