General discussion / I'm shaving my hair off!
« on: February 10, 2011, 12:15:55 AM »
What the heck, I don't get to do shameless plugs very often, so here it is:

I'm shaving all my hair off for World's Greatest Shave. The money I raise goes toward providing free services to improve the lives of people living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders and toward research to find better treatments and cures!

I believe it to be a very worthwhile cause and my team's goal is to raise $10,000 between the 7 of us. My personal goal (set for me by my boss while I was out of the country mind you!!) is $2000... so help me out!!

My hair is pretty much my "thing" as a lot of you know, and for those I don't know - there is a photo up at the link below so you can see the sacrifice I'm making! Personally, the only thing I'm bummed about is not being able to mill to Finntroll!!! Quite a bummer, but oh well, life goes on!

So anyway, here's the link: http://my.leukaemiafoundation.org.au/txwalker?langPref=en-CA
Credit cards are wonderful things, or PM me to arrange cash!

I'm thinking a candy pink wig for Finntroll. Yes?

Carry on!  :headbang:

Australian Tours / LA Guns East Coast Tour Sept
« on: August 14, 2010, 05:31:28 AM »
They be back, saw them in Melb before and it was ever so awesome! :)

Quote
July 1 2010: L.A Guns are coming to Australian shores in September 2010 with Tracii Guns, founding member of both L.A Guns and Guns N Roses. Performing in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne over three back to back nights, Australian fans across the East Coast will be able to experience what many consider to be the last true Rock and Roll band. Started in 1982 by Tracii Guns during his last year of high school, it wasnt until after joining with Hollywood Rose frontman Axl Rose to form Guns N Roses before going their separate ways, that Tracii reformed L.A Guns and guided them to their first platinum album award with their first album L.A. Guns. A compilation of the videos made for this first album also earned the band a gold video award.

L.A. Guns features Tracii Guns (guitar), Danny Nordahl (bass), Chad Stewart (drums and percussion) and Jizzy Pearl (vocals) with whom Tracii recorded the album Shrinking Violet back in 1999.

Original material and Tracii Guns experience working with many renowned and accomplished musicians throughout the years, including Nicki Sixx (Motley Crue) in Brides of Destruction, has led to L.A. Guns continued global success with no signs of slowing down.

East Coast Australia should strap themselves in and get ready for a highly anticipated lesson in Original and Authentic Rock and Roll.

Australian Tours / Stryper 25th Anniversary "Aus" Tour

Quote

Just Say Rock are excited to announce the return of Stryper, who will be bringing their 25th Anniversary Tour to Australia!!! After a quarter century of unprecedented success, the righteous rockers known as Stryper have found a way to keep their high-voltage sonic fire burning. No greater evidence exists than the band's latest studio project and 10th career disc, Murder by Pride.

Without question, Murder by Pride represents a resounding return to form for Stryper. The 12-track album is replete with smoldering dual guitars, euphoric harmonies and sing-along anthems worthy of playing full-volume with windows wide open.
Looking back over the last 25 years, Stryper is considered a groundbreaking act by all accounts. Since the band's label debut in 1984, the quartet has sold more than 8 million albums worldwide. The first Christian rock band to enjoy decided success in the mainstream market, Stryper's RIAA certified platinum 1986 magnum opus To Hell with the Devil is listed among the "100 Greatest Albums in Christian Music" as designated by CCM Magazine. The band's popular power ballad "Honestly" became a Billboard Top 40 hit, peaking at #23.

In conjunction with the latest release, Stryper will be heading to Australia as part of their 25th anniversary celebrations. The tour will feature greatest hits performed by all the original band members including: Michael Sweet (lead vocals, rhythm guitar); Robert Sweet (drums); Oz Fox (lead guitar); and Tim Gaines (bass) as well as newer selections with bassist Tracy Ferrie.

One of the most mesmerizing stage acts still today, Stryper received tremendous exposure on television's MTV and VH1, paving the way for more faith-fueled bands to be considered for airplay. So come and celebrate 25 years of Stryper as they head our way in April 2010!!

Australian Tours / Katatonia Australian Tour?

Quote

Thanks to Craig for spotting this interview from Metal Obsession (http://www.metalobsession.net/katatonia-jonas-renkse-201109).

Here's the news we've all been waiting for:

MO: Will you finally be discussing the possibility of an Australian tour?

JR: Well it?s a priority for us now because it?s been overlooked for so long, it?s a long way to go there and we have heard so many good things about it, especially from the Opeth guys, they love to play Australia. So we have to do it with this album, there;s no denying (laughs).

MO: Have you been approached by anybody to tour down here and you weren?t able to?

JR: I think we were supposed to play a festival in Australia some 4 or 5 years back but it didn?t happen, I don?t know the reason why, maybe the festival went bankrupt or something but that was as close as we ever got, I think now is the right time to do it, to do an Australian tour would be wonderful to actually do.

Australian Tours / Paradise Lost with Sirenia "Aus" tour
« on: December 04, 2009, 04:55:12 AM »

It is with great excitement that Just Say Rock will be bringing Paradise Lost to Australia in early 2010. Having just released their 12th album, Faith Divides Us ? Death Unites Us, the band will be touring in support of their latest opus and thankfully Australia will get to witness the unique blend of gothic / dark wave metal that is Paradise Lost. Furthermore, support will be ably provided by none other than Norwegian band, Sirenia.

Since their conception in 1988, PARADISE LOST have not only founded the genre gothic metal with 1991?s ?Gothic?, but also diligently defined and daringly transcended it. From the crawling, harrowing doom of their debut ?Lost Paradise? (1990) to the electronic sounds of ?One Second? (1997) over to the dark rocking punch of ?Paradise Lost? (2005), the band?s entire career has been accompanied by the desire to evolve and stay ahead of musical trends and fashions. ?Faith Divides Us ? Death Unites Us? easily and proudly continues this successful tradition and clearly points out that PARADISE LOST are one of the few outstanding acts working hard and earning their legendary status by the power of the song.

Norway's Sirenia will be providing support for Paradise Lost, having just released their 4th album The 13th Floor. Playing a unique blend of gothic, symphonic and extreme metal, tied together with the female vocals of Ailyn, Sirenia will no doubt win an army of new fans on their first ever Australian Tour.
Paradise Lost and Sirenia will be hitting our shores in February 2010 so make sure you check out two of the most inventive and unique bands in modern metal!

The forecast for October is ominous, threatening, dark and thunderous,
courtesy of Marilyn Manson.

Mr. Manson and his subversive rock ensemble return to Australia in October for their first tour since the release of Eat Me, Drink Me two years back.

The new tour will see the return of bassist Twiggy Ramirez to the Manson family, whose touring line up will be:

Marilyn Manson Vocals

Twiggy Ramirez Guitar

Ginger Fish Drums

Chris Vrenna Keyboards

Andy Gerold Bass

Marilyn Manson?s seventh album, The High End of Low, debuted at number 12 on the Australian charts, proving the band have lost none of their intense fan-base. As controversial and unrelenting as ever, the album also debuted at number 4 in the US, their highest debut in America in years.

Critics have hailed The High End of Low as a major return to form for the band, who have just marked their 20th anniversary together.

?Manson?s reunion with longtime guitarist-bassist Twiggy Ramirez; together with producers Sean Beavan and Chris Vrenna, (sees them) sculpt a sound both harder-hitting and more finely detailed than on any previous Marilyn Manson record,? the LA Times wrote of the new album.

?While it?s still easy to dismiss his shock tactics as puerile and insensitive he hasn?t sounded this vital ? and tuneful ? since Mechanical Animals,? said Spin Magazine.

As anyone who?s seen the band live knows - it?s going to be a raucous night of entertainment not for the easily offended!

EX DEO, the new Roman themed band featuring Maurizio Iacono of KATAKLYSM recently announced that Karl Sanders (NILE) makes a special guest appearances on the new album, Romulus where Karl laid down a ripping solo on the track "The Final War (The Battle Of Actium)" which deals with Antony and Cleopatra's defiance of Octivian in Egypt.

Commented Maurizio Iacono: "It's an honor for me that such talented musicians and friends lent their art for a couple songs on this album. I only asked a few selected people that had involvement with history through their music and related to this band's concept, so I salute them for contributing to Rome's rise and they shall be amply rewarded for it."

EX DEO recently tapped renowned director Stanimir "Staca" Lukic to helm the video for the title track of the group's upcoming debut album, Romulus. The clip was filmed in early March in Belgrade, Serbia where the magic of Rome was recreated.

Western Australia / Perth Local Metal CD?
« on: March 27, 2006, 03:35:52 PM »
Whilst doing my usual Sunday perusals on the web, came across a '2005 Wollongong Local Music CD' which had tracks from a heap of the local bands from the past year and it was available for free from music stores about Sydney and surrounding areas.

Have no idea if it was ever done here or it has ever been thought about but thought I'd bring it up here for discussion!

So, has there ever been one? Or has there ever been talk of one?
I reckon it's a brilliant idea...
