Western Australia / I don't get why non-doom metal bands play slow/midpaced

I have been going through a bunch of shit I downloaded and the most recent one was this band called 'paradise lost'
It was clear those guys wanted to play metal but it just wasn't fast enough to be good and nowhere near heavy and badass enough to be doom - borecore.
Why do metal bands like these decide not to play fast? Even early bands like Judas priest recognised that fast is way more badass back in the 70s, you'd think the message would have gotten through by now.
