How fucking good were NIN last night?  One of the best gigs I've been to in a long time.

Sound Advice / Re: Mastering suggestions

Turtlerock Mastering in Sydney.  Rick O'Neil has mastered pretty much every Australian act that's anyone.  $300 an hour I think, but I hear he works fast.

Ask Ormsby / Cracked Top on my Martin Acoustic
« on: October 13, 2010, 01:34:00 AM »
I have a small crack on the spruce top of my Martin DX1R Acoustic.  Its between the tailpiece and the nut, where the two top spruce pieces join, and its about 1/2 mm wide.  It only rears its ugly head when it gets hot and dry, when its humid it seals back up again.

Now this guitar is a bit of a warhorse, its never been in a case in its life and I carry it around with me all over the place, sit under trees playing, etc.  Its not like I'm particularly precious about its looks, just the sound.  My question is twofold :

How hard is it to fix?

Is it likely to get worse (and be really bad) if I just ignore it?

Because at the moment it doesn't really bother me, but if its going to be really bad long term, I'll get it fixed.  It doesn't seem to be affecting the tone at all, sounds great as usual.

Sound Advice / Studio Monitor Recommendations
« on: August 09, 2010, 02:20:44 AM »
I'm looking to buy a pair of studio monitors so I can stop mixing with headphones.  The room is small, 2.2m square with a strangely shaped roof.  Not ideal but its all I've got to work with.  If anyone has experience with small monitors, let me know if you have some recommendations.  Looking in the sub -$1k range.  I would prefer active monitors with a full range so I don't need a sub.

Great job, I'm really enjoying listening to that.  I especially like your use of panning.  The guitars and synths are top notch, the one thing I would say is that the drums sound a bit thin and synthetic.  I would like to hear a bit more punch and presence for the drums.  But seriously, the recordings sound great.

Just for recording at this stage.  Eventually it will be live but that is a fair way off yet.

Sound Advice / Getting an Industrial Guitar Sound
« on: August 05, 2010, 07:23:42 PM »
I'm not really sure where to start but this is what I'm thinking : scoop out the midrange and use a noise gate.

Any other ideas?

I'm running a JEM 7VWH through a Line 6 Spider Valve 112, stock DiMarzio EVO's.

Trying to get a sound somewhat like Rammstein, NIN, etc for a couple of recordings I'm doing.

Any hardware/software ideas you might have would be most welcome!

Best mead to be had in WA in my opinion is Bartholemews Spiced Metheglin http://www.bartholomewsmeadery.com.au/winelist.html

$25 a bottle and its too late to order some before the gig but this stuff is truly the nectar of the gods  :headbang:

7 years I believe since my last CD was released and I'm still waiting to recoup my losses .  I have no idea who my target audience was meant to be but anyhow... I live down south now so that's why I only pop up every now and then.  But given nanga is about 40km away from me I couldn't really pass this one up.  Should be a good night for some dark ritualistic moonlit frostbitten violin playing.

The funniest thing is that I have that exact model of Dodge truck sitting in my shed.  Was thinking of turning it into a hot rod some day actually.

I will most likely be there friday night but probably cant stay for saturday night.  Since I live nearby (and have 150ha of bush on my farm) I'll bring a ute load of wood  :cunning:

Bump.  Still for sale, or you could do the logical thing and buy the OTHER GT-8 listed in this forum for $200.  Screw it, for that price I'll keep the thing and use it for electric violin effects.

Ask Ormsby / Re: Ormsby Guitars - Closed - Also, some big news...
« on: July 01, 2009, 08:21:40 PM »
OK I finished drooling long enough to TAB it out for guitar:

|------------------------------
|----5------5------------------
|-7--7--7--7------------------
|--------------9--7--5--5--6--
|------------------------5--7--
|-------------------------------

Don't know if I got it in the right octave and it was a bit hard to see some of the notes given the resolution and the fact I was hanging from the roof upside down.

Sounds killer, what is it from? (or is that a big secret?)

I've given Lord Havok 1st dibs on it and I'm taking it along to a rehearsal on Sunday so that he can have a listen.  I don't know if he's going to buy it yet though, so if he doesn't then its fair game.
