International / Guitar Player And Drummer Quit Nevermore
« on: April 23, 2011, 12:37:04 AM »
NEVERMORE guitar player Jeff Loomis and drummer Van Williams have announced their departure from the group. The two have released the following joint statement:

"In a mutual decision, Jeff Loomis and Van Williams have decided to leave NEVERMORE. The time has come to pursue our own paths from the group. Due to internal struggles and ongoing issues within the band, we feel it is our time to move on. We would like to thank all of our fans around the world for their years of love, support and enthusiasm. This was not an easy decision but a very necessary one at this point, may we all meet again someday, somewhere in time."

Loomis and Williams had been with NEVERMORE since the band's self-titled first album, which came out in 1995.

Looks like the end of one of the most famous guitar duos in metal.

After 40 years with Judas Priest, KK Downing has quit heavy metal music legends Judas Priest. The English heavy metal group will complete their farewell tour without their co-founder, replacing him with Richie Faulkner from Lauren Harris' band

Official statement from KK Downing:

"Dear friends,

It is with much regret that I will not be with you this summer. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your concerns about my health. Please rest assured that I am O.K.

There has been an ongoing breakdown in working relationship between myself, elements of the band, and the band's management for some time.

Therefore I have decided to step down rather than to tour with negative sentiments as I feel that this would be a deception to you, our cherished fans.

However I would urge you to please support the Priest as I have no doubt that it will be a show not to be missed.

All my love and respect."

You raise an interesting point Steve. Slayer one of the worlds biggest metal bands prob #2 of the big four, a 25 year thrash legacy not on main stage, and have brought a cut down show, when One Day As A Lion a band with practically zip stock value are on the main stage is rather strange, they must have good negotiator as one reviewer said.

I must say Protest The Hero are very interesting as you mentioned vocals are the mike Patton aquired quirky taste but technicality is through the roof.

Really great choice - one of the original bay area pioneers, Gary from Exodus & Jeff from Annihilator are possibly the two tightest thrash metal players outside Mustaine so they got one of the best for sure. This will be a Slayer show not to be missed!

Yeah Scott Ian, or Andreas Kisser SEPULTURA, Gary Holt EXODUS, Jeff Waters ANNIHILATOR, Willie LAMB OF GOD, Phil Demmel MACHINE HEAD any of these cats would be cool filling in for some SLAYER shows.. or maybe Dave Mustaine can return the favor as Kerry once played in MEGADETH back in the day..

General discussion / Re: How can one accept this truth?
« on: December 29, 2010, 04:30:58 PM »
Evaluating Truth (accordinding to Wikipedia)

Truth can have a variety of meanings, such as the state of being in accord with a particular fact or reality, or being in accord with the body of real things, real events or actualities.[1] It can also mean having fidelity to an original or to a standard or ideal. In a common archaic usage it also meant constancy or sincerity in action or character.[1] The direct opposite of truth is "falsehood", which can correspondingly take logical, factual or ethical meanings.

However, language and words are essentially "tools" by which humans convey information to one another. As such, "truth" must have a beneficial use in order to be retained within language. Since truths are used in planning and prediction (such as scientific truths being used in engineering), the more reliable and trustworthy an idea is, the more useful and potent it becomes for planning and prediction. Those ideas which can be used anywhere and anytime with maximum reliability are generally considered the most powerful and potent truths. Defining this potency and applicability can be looked upon as "criteria", and the method used to recognize a "truth" is termed a criteria of truth. Since there is no single accepted criteria, they can all be considered "theories".

Various theories and views of truth continue to be debated among scholars and philosophers. There are differing claims on such questions as what constitutes truth; what things are truthbearers capable of being true or false; how to define and identify truth; the roles that revealed and acquired knowledge play; and whether truth is subjective, relative, objective, or absolute.

The question of what is a proper basis for deciding how words, symbols, ideas and beliefs may properly be considered true, whether by a single person or an entire society, is dealt with by the five major substantive theories introduced below. Each theory presents perspectives that are widely shared by published scholars.[5][6] There also have more recently arisen "deflationary" or "minimalist" theories of truth based on the idea that the application of a term like true to a statement does not assert anything significant about it, for instance, anything about its nature, but that the label truth is a tool of discourse used to express agreement, to emphasize claims, or to form certain types of generalizations

There are 5 major theories on evaluating truth I will let you look those up...

Thanks for the drum solo history lesson Damo.

Yes nothing like seeing  a good drummer cut sick behind the kit. Drum solos have their place in music as much as short & simple snappy songs, as in all music it just depends on what best serves the context.

Dream Theater could carry on as long as they want to its the type of music and loyal fanbase built from many years decades in fact, although not overly cool or hip there is always someone who appreciates musicianship type or bands / artists.

A7X been around 10 years or so, yes they are red hot right now, interesting to see if they remain huge, only time will tell, their last few releases though have shown them to be a very marketable band though. They certainly have the songs, commerciality & stylistic elements that connect with the masses, bringing heavy music to the kids.

I actually enjoy listening both Dream Theater & A7X they play well, have good albums and live shows, just a shame the way its panned out for Portnoy.

Interesting to see who they get to replace Portnoy, be a challenge finding another drummer as good him. They have canceled their Soundwave slot as well. Just give Saxon, Slayer & Dimmu Borgir a longer playing time would be nice.
