SUFFOCATION Confirms Split With Drummer MIKE SMITH, Taps DAVE CULROSS As Permanent Replacement - Feb. 27, 2012
New York death metal veterans SUFFOCATION recently answered several questions about their split with drummer Mike Smith during an e-mail interview with Russia's HitKiller.com. Several excerpts from the question-and-answer session in their original English-language form can be found below.

HitKiller.com: It's been a sad surprise for everyone to hear the news about the split-up within the band. We've had a chance to hear Mike speaking his truth and his opinion of what's going on. How would you comment on the current situation? What do you think was the main reason of this sudden breakup?

Answer: We want to keep this respectful, so without going into much detail, Mike and the rest of us had serious differences of opinions. Mike did formally resign from the band, and he has since been replaced with Dave Culross who had played and recorded on "Despise The Sun".

HitKiller.com: There is Bill Robinson [DECREPIT BIRTH vocalist] and Dave Culross to fill the vacant spaces within your lineup during the Eastern leg of the tour. Why did you choose these guys? Was it difficult anyhow to persuade them to come with you ('cause you know there might be kind of negative reaction from the fans who think SUFFO is impossible without Frank [Mullen, vocals] and Mike)? And how much time do you think they'll need to learn the songs? Do you think they can become SUFFOCATION regular members in future (Dave once again in his life)?

Answer: Dave is a permanent member now. Bill is just filling in for Frank on this run only due to the fact that Frank has responsibilities to his job and family. However, Frank will be performing at Neurotic Deathfest with us. As the saying goes, the show must go on for our fans and we will not disappoint! We would like to thank Bill for performing with us on this run to come. But other then that, nothing has changed.

HitKiller.com: How do you see the future of the band? What variant do you think is most possible: 1) The band splits up once again; 2) you're solving the conflict and get all together back; 3) SUFFOCATION continues with the new lineup. What are you going do after this difficult tour is over?

Answer: For all the people who think the band is splitting up, it's NOT, except for the one change we already mentioned above. As far as our next move, the new CD is in the pre-production stage and it kills! We would say some of the best material to date. The band right now as a whole can't wait to get this out to our fans.

HitKiller.com: What will probably happen with the album you've been working on lately? As far as I know a lot of stuff is recorded already and... Will it actually be out?

Answer: Yes, it is scheduled to be released on Nuclear Blast in the fall of 2012.

Seems like they've already started organising next year's Soundwave ;

Quote
Florida metallers TRIVIUM have been confirmed for next year's edition of Australia's Soundwave Festival (not to be confused with the recently canceled offshoot event, Soundwave Revolution), which will take place in February/March.

The exact dates are as follows:

Saturday, February 25 - Brisbane
Sunday, February 26 - Sydney
Friday, March 2 - Melbourne
Saturday, March 3 - Adelaide
Monday, March 5 - Perth

Other rumored acts for next year's Soundwave include DEVIN TOWNSEND PROJECT, SHADOWS FALL, CKY, THE SMOKING HEARTS, FOREVER THE SICKEST KIDS and MADINA LAKE.

Looks like a fail already

First there was this "official report"
Quote
BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has confirmed to Birmingham Mail that the band's original lineup has reunited and is rehearsing for a tour and new studio album.

Iommi and singer Ozzy Osbourne wrote new material in June for a record that will be released next year.

"We're really looking forward to it and I think the stuff we've been writing is really good," said Iommi. "It's more back to the old original stuff."

He added that the reunion has been kept under wraps for some time.

"It's all been very hush-hush. Ozzy's been the worst at trying to hold it back. He's doing a lot of TV and he's being asked stuff about a reunion and he's going, 'Well, I never say never.' He told me, 'I don't know what to say."

Iommi told the Birmingham Mail that his only apprehension about a reunion of BLACK SABBATH's original lineup was the health of drummer Bill Ward who in 1998 suffered a heart attack.

"He hasn't been 100 percent. He had an operation a few months ago, so we'll see how he is."

Then there was this :

Quote
BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has released the following statement regarding the reports of a reunion of the band's original lineup:

"I'm saddened that a Birmingham journalist whom I trusted has chosen this point in time to take a conversation we had back in June and make it sound like we spoke yesterday about a BLACK SABBATH reunion.

"At the time I was supporting the Home Of Metal exhibition was merely speculating shooting the breeze on something all of us get asked constantly, 'Are you getting back together?'

"Thanks to the Internet it's now gone round the world as some sort of 'official' statement on my part; absolute nonsense. I hope he's enjoyed his moment of glory, he won't have another at my expense.

"To my old pals, Ozzy, Geezer and Bill, sorry about this, I should have known better."

General discussion / Tom Cruise in "Rock of Ages" movie
« on: June 20, 2011, 05:08:03 PM »

Quote
Tom Cruise stars in the upcoming film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical "Rock Of Ages", which showcases popular rock songs from the '70s and '80s. The actor stars as Stacee Jaxx, an aging musician whose glory days are long past. Among the tunes Cruise will perform are SCORPIONS' "Rock You Like A Hurricane", BON JOVI's "Wanted Dead Or Alive" and STYX's "Renegade".

"[Tom's] character has elements of Axl Rose, Keith Richards and Bret Michaels," director Adam Shankman tells USA Today. "We did a huge amount of research on what people were going through in this period." He also relied on personal experience. "I knew a lot of these people because my dad was a music business manager."

It was previously reported that Cruise was preparing for his role by training with Axl Rose's vocal coach. "He's been studying with ? seriously ? Axl Rose's voice teacher like five hours a day," Shankman told The Wrap in April. "The prognosis is more than excellent."

The movie is a love story told through the music of PAT BENATAR, BON JOVI, JOURNEY, POISON, TWISTED SISTER and other artists from the 1980s.

Looks like Behemoth are coming this way in December.

AOL's Noisecreep recently spoke with guitarist/vocalist Adam "Nergal" Darski of Polish extreme metallers BEHEMOTH about his health issues, his experiences battling leukemia, and how that has influenced the writing of his forthcoming record. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Noisecreep: When do you resume playing shows?

Nergal: We're doing some shows in Poland in October. I'm excited about it. We're probably doing some Asian and Australian dates around December. Full-on European and U.S. headlining tours are planned for spring 2012. Get ready. It's going to be a full-on tour. We need to complete the "Evangelion" cycle and then we start recording the next record. We're not rushing. We want to make sure that the comeback tour is planned with pyro and the craziness. BEHEMOTH is better than before!
