Does anyone remember that QueefGiblet guy? It's all starting to sound very familiar. Just like recycling episodes of Home and Away. After a while people forget the past and caught up in the 'latest drama'. Which in reality is probably the continuation of a personal need for drama. Anyone?

Hey I didn't threaten anyone, I was actually the one being threatened. Good times.

If I recall the reason people got so upset may have had something to do with dissing melodic death metal/cheese metal/chaos divine. Funny.

Welcome back.

I was just making a cameo, I'll be off now.

see thats the thing. Tom Araya got up and sung to us and the poor cunt had laryngitis. Sure, it didnt sound that great, but it didnt make the show any less special. Imagine how pissed off we all would have been if he used a backing tape and just mimed over it.
If anything, that just does more to boost the integrity of Tom Araya/Slayer. He would rather still perform his vocals, probably at great pain to himself, than disappoint the people who came to see the band. Maybe not the smartest thing to do healthwise, but you gotta hand it to him.
People need to understand (did I just say that!? ) that the way artists like Tom Araya or any other "heavy metal" person view their performance is likely to be vastly different to the way to the way Britney Spears does. It's so rare to see a metal band lip-sync beyond a music video, it's something that most of us will never have to deal with so I really don't see the point of getting upset.

Modern pop is about image and gimmicks - not singing.

There I think we've summed it all up now.

Why do metal bands like these decide not to play fast?

Because they can, or maybe because they're sick of everyone else doing it too?

Last I checked there weren't any rules to songwriting.

Queef knows all the rules. Just ask him.

Yeah I'm making Mike Wafer a leatherbound rulebook for musical genres for his next birthday.

Nah, the file issue is unrelated to the forum as everything is just stored in one massive database.. just relaying another one of the many issues that constantly come up behind the scenes that I have to deal with.

Matt: At least all those other threads as useless as they may have been weren't totally boring. ;D
p.s. What is a bit strange is you taking me so seriously.

Queef: No, the site can handle it but at times the limits can be pushed, and every bit of unnecessary bullshit doesn't help. As mentioned, perhaps you'd like to donate some money to the cause.

If more people came to 'SUPPORT THE LOCAL SCENE MAN' at my gigs then maybe I'd have more money. Maybe I should just play in better bands?

P.S. It's a METAL forum.

Every unrelated comment takes us closer and closer to stretching the resources of the server. Almost everyday I get an email telling me that the database is receiving connections which are slowing it down.
Now last night I get one telling me we have too many files on the WF server (25,000 is the limit and we're over it), so I've gotta figure out how to cull those as well.
:P

Wait so you're asking people not to use your site because it can't handle the traffic?

Upgrade?

You want to pay for it?

Nope, I thought a major part of running a website effectively was finding the money to maintain it though.

Was my example not blatant enough? I really did try to choose the most obvious one I could. Let me work on another, just for you.

Whether people like to admit it or not, an opinion must be backed up with logical and coherent arguments or evidence to be correct.

This is the entire basis of critical thinking.

Your opinion on opinions is wrong.

=~]

What tastes good to you is an opinion
Musical preference is an opinion
Colour preference is an opinion

Good luck applying empiricism and critical thinking to them.

Don't remember saying it applies to all opinion. Although, you do need to be able to justify all of the above coherently all the same.

Queef you are a tool. Nihilist you wrong.

As mentioned before, an opinion on it's own is not wrong, it is an opinion. However, a LOGICAL OPINION can be wrong as the opinion is formed on the basis of logic. Therefore once the basis of logic has been established to be used then we can tag it as right or wrong. As for a standard opinion, it can be called right or wrong, good or bad, but only in YOUR OPINION.  :P

How illogical...

Queef go do your homework & brush up on the history before you type.
If you had then you would realise that Damo is an excellent musician unlike yourself as is the girl he is giving props to. She can not only shred, but can fit in with other musicians music where needed.
She doe this as her FULL TIME JOB. Try making a full time living starting out playing metal & see how well you pay the bills. This is a stepping stone, where the more famous she gets, the more she will be able to have pesonal control over her music.
If she gets popular enough she will be able to play her own stuff with full major label backing no less.
Maybe she has sold out her music principles but @ the end of the day she gets to do what she loves most, play guitar & sing for a daily living. How many people get to actually do that.

That doesn't make her a good musician though. I'd play in Nickelback for the money and bitches but I wouldn't expect to be respected or taken seriously.

Talented guitar player =/= good musician

And when did I slag off Damo as a musician? I can remember slagging him off for just about everything else but I've never said he's a shit drummer.

You can derail an opinion?

Clearly.

It is western front after all, I don't expect things to make sense.

What about that doesn't make sense exactly?

Opinions can be derailed, just as they can be wrong. Try Hitler for an extreme example of both.

Opinions can't be wrong, that's a defining characteristic of what an opinion is. If an opinion can be wrong - then it's not an opinion.

Queef, "good music" is subjective and the pop scene aint the metal scene.

Why do I class her as a good musician? Well, have a look at some of the other musicians she's played with.

Just because you've supported or played in a band with good musicians doesn't say anything about you as a musician, I'm a perfect example, I'm a shit musician but I play in bands with amazing ones.

Thankfully, Im past the point where I feel people have to play my kind of music before I can class them as half-decent.
Orianthi is obviously in it for the career, and the exposure. She's living the dream, and she's smart enough to play what she's told to play in order to keep the ball rolling her way.

I don't see how these two points can be reconcilable, she's in it for the money and career and yet she's a good musician. Well where's her good music?

Also I think you're being confused about the way I use the word 'musician' as distinct from the context of 'instrumentalist' which a lot of people connect it with.

Exactly!

Or why anyone would want to model themselves after the fat chumbler lead singer from Testament.

btw - heres the clip I was referring to earlier.

Pop stuff, to be sure, but its good to see that she can at least play!

Classic Damo

If you can shred but you can't play good music then you are not a very good guitarist.
