General discussion / Re: Pearl Demon Drive Review-
« on: August 06, 2009, 12:46:25 PM »
I'm really keen to give these a go.  A mate of mine has just bought a pair and once he's dialed them in how he likes them he's going to give me a lend of them.

From watching the video I like that Pearl seem to give the heavy hitters amongst us an option.  I've seen all the fancy DW/Axis/Trick ones and whilst they look and feel nice, they made me feel like I was tip toeing through the tulips.  I don't want to sacrifice power for speed, so if these can find a great mix between the two then I'm sold.  Basically I'm a big fat bastard who stomps to hard on his pedals to get a driving double kick sound that hopefully pummels heads.

Any band that doesn't make the trek to Perth is crazy imo, Defamer had an amazing time.

/suckin yo dick, fool.

But seriously, I've told so many bands to start saving up to get over your way after the awesome time we had in May.  They get all misty eyed over the cost of airfares, but I just serve them a cup of 'harden the fuck up'.  Defs keen to get back out there in 2010.

Yo dudes and dudettes.

When I'm not trying to be all brutal and shit with Defamer, I like to get really drunk and play stoner rock, a genre you don't see kicking around to much at the moment.  My stoner rock band Shellfin just released this press release:

http://www.myspace.com/shellfinmusic

Shellfin have uploaded two new tracks to our myspace from our soon-to-be-released EP "Stay For Tea".  Recorded live in the studio to catch the groovin' dirty style in its truest form, the tracks are rockier than your average quarry.

The EP will be available from us at shows, with the launch show booked for Friday June 26th @ Monstrothic (Rosies Live on Edward),  where we'll be rocking out alongside Brisbane rockers Rollerball as they launch a new album.

Hope you enjoy!

Hope you can find the time to check it out! (see if you can pick the singer, lol)

Ran into Sasquatch at a local pub this week, after hearing about the idea he offered to help manage it all for you.

Someone drop him a line!

Forgot to ask...does anyone know of any locals that took pics?  Would love to get some for our memories.  We need digital help because the beer is destroying our brains.

40
Cheers for the kind words people!

Easily the best interstate tour we've done, had an absolute ball.  Loved the venue, the bands and the punters!  Nails/DFC/Scrapers were amazing bands to share the stage with, thanks again to the NOI guys for the gear lendage, and also to Ides of March for the Saturday night show.
Cheers for all those who came into the room to check us out, hope a few of you enjoyed it, and another big thanks to those who bought CD/T-shirts...hope the album is going down a treat for you.

Till next time Perth!

Further to the amazing deals mentioned above, Defamer merch prices are as above:

I'd like to weigh in on the Myspace debate, if I may, as a promoter/booker of a weekly Brisbane metal club (www.myspace.com/monstrothic) which I run not for personal gain, but because I got insanely mad at the pure unadulterated FAIL that was becoming of our gigs in the local scene.

I'm of the opinion that whilst Myspace is of course a great tool, it's destroyed local metal gig promotion.  "-core" seems to thrive on it, but metal hardly garners the same kind of attention...and to many bands end up getting lazy and just using that to promote their product.  It's almost like as this new wave of promotional tools have come in, that the old ones have just been left by the wayside like an old shoe...even though its foundations are sound and tested.
Did anyone notice that not to long ago Myspace implemented a system that counted how many views Bulletins were getting?  They took it down pretty quick it seems....I wonder if thats because nearly all of them were showing up as big fat 0 for just about everyone (unless it was a hot chick with the subject LOOK AT MY HOT TITS) of them and Myspace didn't want people discouraged.  Status updates are one thing, but they have minimal information on them.
I think the best internet promo for any show is on forums such as this one/brismetal/metalobsession/metalshop etc etc as it generates discussion and excitement.

I wrote a blog on my (lol, ironically enough) Myspace whilst mostly drunk a while back regarding promotions after watching young band after young band pull no one to their shows despite the best effort of everyone around them to make it a good show.
Have a read if you can be bothered!
