Look at this pic then stand back about 15 feet from your screen and look again...

That was in the West today, Inside Cover.

That artwork would make a great poster.

That would require a lot of concentrated effort, and the people involved would have to be in it for the long game if there is going to be enough material for a new pic every day. The idea does have a lot of merit however.

That Hard Focus group on Facebook feature a local band every fortnight, post their videos, link to their songs and conduct a two part video. I'm not sure how well the idea has taken off yet, but they're out there and they're doing something for the scene. I've noticed Trease has written some great gig reviews lately too, which I believe were shared with Hard Focus and WF. People want to hear about the local scene.

One idea could be to combine both ideas, with a fortnightly, or monthly local scene e-newsletter. A simple (Printer-friendly) pdf file that contains some local scene news, some interviews, some new reviews, some of Jez's old reviews, some opinion piece, some gig reviews, an upcoming gig calender, and a centerfold of the Girls of Perth Metal. Once again, it would be a lot of work, and there would probably be next to no reward for it... but it's an idea, and one that I've been thinking about for a while.

If such an electronic publication, or even the purely digital version of the photos became popular, then a physical version of the calender could become a serious prospect.

As for website hosting, if you wanted to save even more costs, just set up something free, like www.girlsofperthmetal.tumblr.com or a similar free image hosting site. There are some very professional looking image blog sites out there.

Focus on the fun rather than the sexy posing, with the band theme Jez mentioned, and I imagine a few people would be intersted in getting behind this.

Is 'sexy posing' too risque for ol' Jesus?  :eyebrows:

It's more about points 3&4 that Jez posted. I don't have an ideological problem with the idea, more a pragmatic view on the potential pitfalls.

Either way though, if it goes ahead, I'd buy a copy, to support the supporters.

...has anyone mentioned the IT Crowd yet?

I would offer a suggestion though:  This COULD work, but not really as a calendar with one lady on the page.   Groups of 5 or 6 ladies, both smoking hot and otherwise -  on a page acting the way you guys really are in reality - vibrant fucking dynamos - would work way better, not just wearing band t-shirts but actually with a concept.  For Naetu for example, all corpsepaint and darkness, for Wardaemonic more in the snowy forest.  For Neverborn more of a lunatic theme, Claim the throne dressed as tavern wenches or  warrior maids.  Malignant Monster it would be blood and dirt, Enforce Denin and Bourborn bottles, Nexus maybe an sci-fi theme.... so many bands, so many options but you get the idea.

I really like this suggestion. Instead of your standard one-girl-per-page, get a group in each shot, and do each one with a theme that fits the band. That way, you wont run into any sort of ego/friendhsip ruining problems, as it's not all about looking smoking hot in each photo, but about looking like you're having fun! We have a lot of pretty girls in the local scene, but more importantly, they are fun people to hang out with. Focus on the fun rather than the sexy posing, with the band theme Jez mentioned, and I imagine a few people would be intersted in getting behind this.

I have heard that with Ben leaving, Jarrad having family commitments and Cain busy with The Amenta, it may have been the last Malignant Show ever.  Again, just something I heard through the grapevine, not clarified in any way.
Is there any truth to this?

They're still playing at Bastardfest

There does come a point where complaining about a problem becomes just as annoying as the problem itself. Instead of complaining, contribute.

Seems AJ is blaming this on the "co-headliner" pulling out.

One band pulling out & he cancels it - crap!
There were, what 50+ others???

Yeah, most people were happy with the line-up as it was. Unless it was Iron Maiden or Black Sabbath or something, I'm pretty sure the new headliner wouldn't have made too much difference.

Voyager suits, but (and correct me if Im wrong) they havent done too much lately...?

I think they've been writing/resting, and have just recorded their new album...?

Yeah, they've been in the studio, and gearing up for a few gigs in America.

It must really mess the bands around for a festival like this to be cancelled.

Queensland / Ex-Spithre bass player's new material - Comments?
« on: July 27, 2011, 07:19:43 AM »
Hey guys, I'm posting on behalf of Scott, who you may have known as the bass player of Spithre, Scourged Flesh and Burial Grounds. He has since joined the army and moved to Townsville.

He's met up a with a couple of other metal musicians up there, put this together, and was after some feedback.

Nice, it's always cool to see a local band put together a video clip. Always interesting to see what local deranged minds can come up with!
