The Frontline / Re: Alls quiet on the Western Front
« on: July 03, 2011, 06:59:13 AM »
This really has turned into an interesting discussion, probably the most people we've had in one thread for a while.

Jez mentioned that trolls used to be chased off in the past by WF members, instead of relying on the mod team to remove them. I've been a member here for, must be around 4 years, maybe a little more now, and that's always been the case, at least as far as I've noticed. Most trolls get bored and eventually leave. Daz, and most of the other members here aren't in favour of heavy handed moderation. Indeed, the one time I got drunk and decided to delete a whole heap of crap a troll had posted, it wasn't well recieved at all. However, if someone is seriously bugging you on here, pissing you off with personal attacks, and leaking into other aspects of your life, then speak up about it. Don't just bite back, and complain that we've done nothing about it, but actually get in touch with one of the mods, and we'll see what needs to be done. Otherwise, you'll be treated like adults, who have the ability to communicate your thoughts and resolve conflicts.

It was WF that helped me make some new friends when I first started to discover the Perth matel scene. I loved the raw vibe that existed here, the conversations, the commnity and the abuse. WF is more than just a website, it is a legacy that will continue to leave it's mark on the local scene, regardless of which trolls are currently trying their luck.

I noticed just the other day a gig review was posted to the main site. It was great to see things like that are still happening. Jez's album reviews were always a good read. We've a lot of creative bastards around here, and we could do a lot more for the community if we put our minds to it.

omfg fucking cry some more why don't you. Anyway I'M back now so you'll be right again.

Western Australia / Your favourite Perth metal song?
« on: June 20, 2011, 11:35:05 PM »
Instead of top 5/10 lists or anything, lets keep this simple. What is your #1 favourite Perth metal song, of all time? If you could only pick one song to tell the world what makes Perth great, only one song that sums up the whole scene, only one song that you can listen to over and over again, what would that one song be?

54
Hmmm, very interesting. I know Alcest have/are touring USA recently. Would be great to see them here in Perth.

New songs sound great!

This was the first article to show up when I searched Google for the story, and it also the worst article. I mean, just look at the picture they chose... Still, interesting story  ;D

Yeah, there is that...

I don't see FB as a replacement of forums though. It's difficult to have a proper discussion/argument on facebook. It's good for sharing things, and quickly sending messages to friends, but it doesn't replace the freedom to expand upon your thoughts that a forum allows. I've been on facebook since '06, and it's only recently that people have started to accuse it of detracting from online forums.

Anyone heard of these guys? Just read about them in Terrorizer, looked them up, and rather quite liked their sound.

Online forums tend to fluctuate, and I've noticed they tend to be a little slow over winter. While it has been a little quieter than usual, I'm sure it'll pick back up sooner or later.

Wouldn't it kill two birds (haw haw) with one stone if chickens were bred from a petri dish?

Meat grown in a vat seems to be the way of the future. Non sentient, lab grown meat. No need to worry about killing it humanly, as it's not alive to start with. Less environmental impact too.

This was a great gig! Finally got to see some of Perth's new thrash bands tear up the stage  :headbang:

This is the only remotely clever/funny pony picture you have ever posted.

I was thinking that myself, it is kinda clever.

"anyone who thinks we should've dealt with him in any other way has got rocks in their head."

Dear me..

Osama should have been put on trial, so the world could see what kind of person he really was, rather than remaining a mythical figure known only through propaganda from either side.

I find the idea of celebrating someone's death to be absolutely abhorrent, regardless of the person.

A friend of mine drew this comic.

It'll give a moral boost to the US, but I don't think it'll have more than a marginal effect anywhere else. Terrorist organisations don't work the same way as business companies, if you kill the head, they wont die.

Seriously, I could upload a picture of RuPaul fellating Liberace's dead body on a bed covered in bright pink silk sheets and it'd still be less gay than this.

One of these things is not like the others.

Watain has been added to the lineup....

That would be cool, but they'll be even more out of place than Dimmu were.

Perth people have a different attitude.?

Of course we've got a different attitude, we've been constantly screwed over by the larger promotion companies, and this event is just further salt in the wounds. You can't blame the WA crowds for being cautious about investing in such an event when a decent amount of them have been canceled in the past.

Such promoters need to stop complaining about WA, and do something to improve their own reputation here.

International / Chicago is Burning - New album competition
« on: April 26, 2011, 08:01:55 AM »
Iron Guardian Industries are proud to announce the impending release of Chicago is Burning's debut album, American Outlaw. Tentatively described as chaotic industrial metalcore, and drawing from several different influences, Chicago is Burning appeals to a wide audience. Combining aggression and chaotic intensity with melody and heartfelt lyrics, American Outlaw deals with topics ranging from the classics of betrayal and hope to the criminally discussed subject of animal cruelty. This highly anticipated and long awaited release is a pleasure both aurally and visually, mastered at Marcussen Mastering (Alice in Chains, Korn) and booklet design by Paula "Hatefueled" Stirland.

To coincide with the release, Chicago is Burning and Iron Guardian Industries are holding a photo competition. The idea is simple, all you need to do is take a photo relating to either "Chicago is Burning" or "American Outlaw" and we have 10 copies of the album to award the 10 best entries. You will find the full rules on the CiB Facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Chicago-Is-Burning-Official/137970726226976?sk=app_95936962634
