I think a blowtorch would be marginally better, because it would have more precise aim

Periphery were the worst band ever. Halfway through their set I turned to my friend and said "I hate everything about this band". Fucking awful.

You weren't the douche i heard telling them to "get off the stage" were you?

As far as i'm aware they are a very new band. Haven't played live very much.

No, I was well behaved! My biggest gripe was the ridiculously off-key vocals, so hopefully with some more time and experience, they can sort that out.

Second band were okay, but not my thing.

Dillinger were solid- bit more stuff off Ire Works than expected, to the detriment of the rest of the back catalogue, but the setlist from their last tour covered enough excellent material to make it understandable (fair that they didn't just do the same set all over again, as much as I would have enjoyed it!).

When Good Dogs Do Bad Things was cool, and the way they ended the set had me smiling (Greg pulling the cymbal aside to join in on the drums- pretty neat).

I give the night a B+

Regardless of your intentions as a business owner, i.e. if it's "not about money, just about supporting the scene" or whatever, there are still minimum standards you must adhere to, and you still basically have to run it like a business.

It's just common sense.

If it's good, people will go, and bands will love playing there, and you will make money, which you can then reinvest and make the place even better.

Oh capitalism.

Extortion need to support this considering Barney did guest vocals on the last Extortion release.

Every single year the Maryland Deathfest line-up pisses all over that of every other metal festival.
It's fucking ridiculous.

One day!!!!

i don't know half of these songs- either i am super out of touch, or this is kind of becoming "my favourite songs"? :P

i guess voyager would have the most catchy/memorable hooks, choruses, sequences etc...
white shadow/pulse 04/cosmic armageddon?

that's my vote for stuff with genuine broad/cross-over appeal

to be fair though, maxi p- grand guignol. there's your winner. i can't step back far enough to tell if it's just memorable to grind fans or not, but if there were more songs like that, there would be no war.

that's only 4, so i'll give my spare vote to someone who went over.

I disagree.

Raw dexterity (if thats what youre referring to) can and IS easily measured. Its what the player creates with that ability that becomes subjective and decided personally by the individual.

100% man

I don't care how fast you can play, or how complicated your shit is. It's not going to necessarily make it sound any better to me.

In fact, the wankier your music is, the more it'll probably just frustrate me :P

At least Whitney was kind enough to cancel

Otherwise this would have ruined the metal scene

RE-ACTIVATED featuring TURNSTYLE

The Frontline / Re: Decline?
« on: March 01, 2010, 04:36:35 PM »

not booking the gigs isnt going to help the scene. I'm going to keep doing my job and booking metal on Saturdays. sorry.

Booking out 52 saturdays a year and expecting every other promoter to work around you sure is going to make you popular.
You'd have to talk to the owner about changing the way the castle has worked since before I even went there. as for the punk/rock gigs on saturdays we already do plenty of those every other night, we'd just be saturating another genre. Imo, we're one of the smaller venues struggling to keep our head above the water while venues like amps and rocket room are doing fine, maybe they should ease up a little.

Doesn't get much clearer than that. The Castle officially has every Saturday night ever, and the other venues/promoters should just "ease up a little".

this gig is much more skewed toward the punk side!

THIS IS NOT A TRIPLE BOOK

50
I still don't think this now constitutes a "triple booking" of metal gigs this weekend, as suggested by his original post
