General discussion / Re: What is the best gaming news site?
« on: January 20, 2011, 01:05:40 AM »
very surprised noone has mentioned www.gamespot.com which is responsible for the coverage of all the main gaming events in america including PAX, CES, E3, Nintendo World Summit, X10, Captivate and Gamescon just to name a few.  You'll be able to find footage of stage demos for new and upcoming games, interviews with the developers including developers diaries for some games.  There always up to date by the minute but I would suggest cross referencing interesting searches with youtube, never trully know if anythings that good unless you've seen or heard it for yourself!

Drum solos rule, if you don't think so then you must be a guitarist

Awesome way to put it Adam, haters can go away and pluck on their g-string's :cunning:

Mikey - Anything around the Philly Joe Jones Era. Drums really started to feature once 'sets' started becoming the norm.

Thanks for the clarify Damo.  Some of you more 'run o' the mill shallow metalheaded dimwits' will find this information bewildering.  Take a leaf out of the 'Jazz History' book for once and realise that none of its actually as easy as it looks!

Since when do drum solos matter outside of filling space when the power goes out?

Since about 1938.

1938 hey Damo, would you be reffering to the introduction of be-bop and swing (Jazz)?

I seriously hope that they take away all or most of his endorsements for this bullshit, Mike Portnoy is a fucking joke even more so now he decided to leave Dream Theater...  As a musician he has shown everyone that he is a great songwriter but as a soloist he has shown us that its all just 'ting, ting, bash, bash' (very similiar to Joey Jordison's [Slipknot] style, no other elements but rock and metal, good luck finding a ghost note in any of their solos!)

I can safetly say that Portnoys days as a songwriter are over (unless he writes some crappy solo album) he's gonna have to part with being a session musician for a long time unless some REALLY desperate millionare hires him to do something but I can tell you that the quality of the track wont come close to his hourly rates, it just wont be worth it... ESPECIALLY largely due to his limited playing style.  Sure he'll nail it in just about one take for you, but chances are it will sound nothing in the end like you wanted it to!

Portnoy's style is like, completely the opposite to Terry Bozzios.  Fucking nice massive kit but he sure as hell wouldnt know how to use it Melodically!

I'm more impressed with Mikey making a post that is readable and actually makes good points!
;D

It's stupid for a band to be a "such-and-such band" based on a certain style of riffing. That means they're pigeonholed into playing songs that all sound the same and are boring.

Hence why old Meshuggah is good and their newer stuff is monotonous.

Hey thanks Daz, and you read my mind in certain respects as well... if your a 'this and this' type of band then your very much LIMITING yourselves to what sort of music you can write.

But as far as im concerned about this djent thing,
fucking Americans trying to rekindle flames that are already prefectly lit!

« on: November 26, 2010, 07:50:48 PM »
well for one ive never EVER reffered to Meshuggah as a djent band because im not shallow and realise that theres more inside there music than just wanting to play 'phat sounding guitar', sure they might sound a little bit like that because of their low tuning, choice of choord progression and syncopation to the drums but if anyone tells me that then I tell them thats absolute bullshit, for reason I will state...

I've ALWAYS known Meshuggah to be a post-organic thrash band, and i'm sure it was never their intention to create a new genre.  Besides they dont look like nerds like the periphory guys anyway (watched the metal injection interview, bunch of scene wierdos that just think they're trying hard with this djent crap!).

I'm telling you man that other bands TOOK the chugga-chugga style FROM meshuggah and made it into their own thing hence this new name and all the crappy lame jokes that come after it!

Its like the sure fire joke you've spent all week trying to come up with for a cool party and when you finally bust it out all you can hear is tumbleweed!

I think thats fucking pathetic if people are making up new genres of music simply by how their guitar tone sounds, no reason why they should'nt just call it nerd metal based on all the tweaking you have to do to get the desired guitar tone.

How about this I tweak around with a new tone for the guitar that makes it sound like a purring kitten, the desired effect a new genre of music entitled 'Meow Metal!

Djent fucking sucks

ill play drums for Dream Theater... the drum kit will always only be almost as big a his though, unless Petrucci of coarse decides to open his pocket for me.

This guys BADASS!

Sorry I thought I'd stumbled across a different band with the same name, but I cant believe now that its actually you guys.

So in that case you might wanna refrain from performing 'Sweet Home Alabama' covers in future then... and here I am thinking that you were a badass stoner rock band. What a mood killer!

No wonder you didnt want my band to play with yours at the Newport a couple of months back, we just cant compete with that level of cheese!

Unless of coarse Khariot decides to kill a couple of James Blunt numbers?

Ah well good luck finding some Vokills just make sure he uses his talents better than the last guy.  Youve synced up your original tracks with the video footage really nicely by the way.

Now check this and prepare to be amused...
