Suggestions / Re: Embedding Youtube videos
« on: December 16, 2011, 05:53:11 AM »
Cheers for the suggestion, I'll have a look into it. Would have never occurred to me as I hate embedded videos, if someone posts them on facebook or something I'll just middle mouse button it to open it in a new tab so it doesn't have to clog up anything else. The only positive I guess would be seeing the thumbnail and getting an idea of what the clip is but, eh.
Unlike facebook if people post something on here there is a good chance it's pretty good so it's worth just clicking the link.

Heh yeah nice poster, though when I saw it loading and saw A Maximum Metal Christmas I hoped for a second that meant Maximum Perversion were playing.

WA Gigs / Re: Western Front Awards Night '10/'11 - 28th October 2011
« on: October 30, 2011, 06:33:53 PM »
Cheers for everyone that came down on the night, and enjoyed the great show put on by all the bands.
Thanks to everyone that nominated and voted in the awards; and,
Congratulations to all the award winners!
There was a record amount of voters this year, and in some cases there was only 1 or 2 votes difference in some placings.

A recap of the winners:

Best local metal band for '10/'11:

Sins of the Father

Best local metal release for '10/'11:

Sins of the Father - Self Titled

Best local metal guitarist for '10/'11:

Matt Corica (SOTF)

Best local metal bassist for '10/'11:

Simon Hallett (Psychonaut)

Best local metal drummer for '10/'11:

Luke Aumord (SOTF)

Best local metal keyboardist for '10/'11:

Jesse Millea (Claim The Throne)

Best local metal vocalist for '10/'11:

Jack Cressall (SOTF) - Great work by Jack for his last performance with Sins on the night, we all look forward to his future endeavours.

Sins did well for a lot of categories, but I don't want to hear an accusations of corruption etc - they have come a long way since they first hit the scene and are a well polished machine these days, and have put the work into the area that a lot of bands overlook, which is doing the hard yards in terms of promotion and building their fan base. This has paid off for them, and other bands should take note, to help them also gain the recognition they deserve.

I'll publish the full results later on.

Tomorrow is the big day and it was great of the government to put on a public holiday just for the awards show (I'm pretty sure that's all it was..)

The pub is open at midday so come on down and join us for some warm up drinks before the gig doors swing open at 8pm!

Western Australia / Re: Promotional sexy calendar
« on: September 08, 2011, 08:47:00 AM »
Reading the intelligent posts by Perry and Row and the retarded ones from the usual retard element has got me thinking....

You COULD pull this off, but as a digital thing only.
If you were dispose of the calendar idea and instead just have a new promo pic each day released not in print but released digitally as a free online download you could defer the prohibitive cost of printing and still have a pile of fun doing it.  You could feature a new band and with it a new pic each day, and done right it should turn heads.

Maybe you could choose one band per fortnight and for each have the chicks in each set photographed 14 times, one pic for each day of the fortnight.  Or even better, instead of one band for a fortnight you can cycle through the 26 bands you promote so each day of the month is a different band being promoted.

Do your flash photo shoot thing and put it up online with band logos, links to songs and all that crap and it could be a useful promotional tool, one that bands would be happy to pay to use, and that covers the expense of your original outlay.  You would need plenty of chicks, plenty of pics and plenty or photoshop and uploading done, but it is way more practical that a printed calendar.

Just a thought.

Jez, that thing rattling around in that Easter Island type cranium of yours actually works sometimes!
This actually made me think of another idea, which I'll leave up to the rest of you contributors to decide whether it has any merit.
Could integrate that idea with the "Featured band" section on WF. So each month have a different band featured which is promoted by the ladies doing the photoshoot along the theme that matches them.

Could have one (or two) photos to tease people in, and then mention to raise funds for the band people can choose to pay a small fee (even if it's just $5-10) to see the rest of the set of photos that go along with it. I mean if the chicks are gonna go to all the hassle of dressing up, getting made up and a location/set, then may as well make the most of it and do a run of shots - maybe some mucking around, some serious and some a bit saucier.

If so, then like I said I could run it similar to the featured band page and host it on Western Front. Then you wouldn't have to worry about the domain name, hosting etc, plus have the reputation of WF behind it. Having said that, if it was going to be affiliated in anyway with WF then, as mentioned previously, there would have to be a level of quality control.

Anyway, that's another 2c in the bucket.

Keep the brain storm brewing!

WA Gigs / Western Front Awards Night '10/'11 - 28th October 2011
« on: September 08, 2011, 08:21:31 AM »
The annual awards show for the best of Western Australian metal for the previous year, with performances by some of the top voted bands, and presentation of awards.

Playing on the night will be Enforce, Claim The Throne, Psychonaut and Sins Of The Father - A great cross section of the WA metal scene so should be an awesome night.

...AND it's a public holiday so you can get down to the pub and start drinking early! Forget about CHOGM, we've created our own event - the Commonwealth Heads Of Metal Party, so come along and get your "CHOMP" on!

Saw them in Belgium in 2008 and they were awesome

Looking forward to seeing them here and hopefully will be a good turn out.
Couldn't call yourself a metalhead if you didn't go to real metal shows like this because you're only into the gay trends and fads of the moment...
