General discussion / Re: Working night shift - fatigue
« on: October 12, 2009, 04:12:55 PM »
From my experience, tiredness is greatly connected to eyesight.  I wear contact lenses, and when they are getting old and scratched I find that I feel the need to sleep a lot more, but when they are fresh and new I have a lessened inclinaion towards fatigue.

Maybe it is worthwhile getting a vision test?

I actually wear glasses 8)

Maybe its time to ditch the fashionable lenses and go for a big old pair of cokebottles

The rooms are ok, I only have dramas when the aircon fails, those dongas heat up QUICKLY  :o

Im just a bonehead operator SOD

I work rolling roster shift work. What I'm doing this week isn't what I'll be doing next week

Makes it impossible to form any sort of sleeping pattern

By the end of the Cannibal Corpse gig I'd been awake for about 40 hours. Same will apply for Slayer/Megadeth next week

But the job is great so I'll hang in there for now...

I occasionally do that, fly home straight from a nightshft and stay up for 30 + hours, things to do, bills to pay etc.

But yeah, *hopefully* i can get my shit together and not have to do this for 20+ years like some of the old boys up here

As some of you know, I work away (like a few others on this site) and part of that work involves nightshift. 12 and a half hour shifts.

Ive been doing this for about 5 years and 'afternoon' shifts at my previous job for about 3 years. Ultimately Im coming to the realisation that its becoming harder and harder to stay awake. Sleeping during the day in the heat is just difficult, Ive had a few close calls and it scared the shit out of me.

Now while the site is trying to encourage people to stop if they are fatigued, and if it gets to the point I will stop, but the industry being what it is people cant resist a 'toughen up princess' if you do that. But im not working away to be a hero, i wanna make some $$ and stay alive.

Just wondering if any of you guys and girls have any methods for combating fatigue. Id like to try and avoid just chugging coffee or Red Bull (there are guys at site that seriously cant go a shift without 3 cans minimum  ???). I always try and get about 7-8 hours, exercise when I can and try and eat decently. Ive heard some 'homegrown' remedies, but they vary in effectiveness (eat lots of green apples etc).

20th of May 01 I believe it was. That was fucking MAD!

Glad you got to see them in a good live setting Haydz, I saw them the time before and they were pretty average. Allagiance TOTALLY blew them offstage

That cymbal is pretty lethal and The Flying Scotsman is getting 'noise complaints'.

Its a shame, it could be a possible venue for metal/heavy sounds. Cease and other noisy acts play there, fucking wankers think that theres more noise from a pub than oh....A MAIN ROAD IN MOUNT LAWLEY???

Ive read a few reviews and articles on this release. All sorts of stories about how the once mighty thrash sounds have been ditched for jazz breaks and synths etc.

Ive heard a few tracks and, although its a touch weaker than the earlier stuff, its doesnt seem *too* bad, might have caused a few eyebrow raises and 'what the fuck?"s on release.

Any of you guys have this, is it worth a shot?

. That's why I have no qualms about saying that Perth (and Australian) metal is shit, no one I have seen has the combination of balls, vision and skill to step out from under the shadow of international influecnces and create something independent of outside influence.

No love for Alchemist or Sadistik Exekution?

Gave Alchemist a chance, underwhelmed.

The only two Australian metal bands I'm willing to give the time of day at the moment are Portal and The Amenta.

Fair enough I wont jam them down your throat but  they really their stride on 'Lunasphere' and 'Organasm', 'Austral Alien' was a bit disapointing.

Portal are ace, so are Rookwood.

I think people forget this is more about how metal originated in "Eastern" countries, where things from Western culture are/were generally prohibitted or frowned upon, and how it has since developed.

I found the section on Indonesia and Japan to be interesting...more so during the latter, when they show the Japanese glam (can't remember the name of the genre, Visual something...?) and metal bands, and how they're somewhat similar yet co-exist under different "scenes".

That'd be 'Visual Kei' and yeah some of those guys make Poison look pretty civil  :P

I wish Sigh got a bit of a better look in though, theres an extended interview with Mirai on the dvd which is pretty funny.

Fair enough. Theres a bonus bit on the dvd where he goes to Bali which was cut from the film, pretty cool

A review of sorts, I guess.

Picked this up on dvd the other day and before watching was wondering why it didnt get the 'acclaim' that "Metal:A Headbangers Journey" seemed to get. A documentary on metal bands/culture from all over the world should be great. Well...its kinda not that great.

Its billed on the front as the 'Follow up to Metal:...." and throughout the doco it seems like Sam Dunn had a bunch of footage leftover from the first movie and tried to pad it out with a few more interviews. Its almost like hes doing pieces for 'getaway' or some travel show. Show footage of plane taking off, cut to street shot, show historical landmark, cut to random fans then interview/live clips.

Some if its great and fascinating for sure, but a fair amount of it seems a bit wasted. He travels to Brazil and interviews Max Cavalera, Sigh from Japan get the briefest of interviews and places like Finland dont even get a mention (where a lot of metal is almost top 10 in the music charts).

Anyone else have thoughts on this, i dunno, I appreciate what he tried to do and dont wanna be too negative but its only 'ok'. Thoughts?

Anyone that 'wants to beat up' Queef is a fucking idiot and only makes the metal scene and WF look childish. I seriously doubt (and hope) anyone in this forum has these motives.

Sure, he said a few things that probably got up peoples goats and some that were unnecessary , but bands arent above criticism metal or otherwise.

This guy has no idea about the Perth METAL scene and garbage arguments such as 'theres no Australian sound they all copy USA/European bands' is baseless.

BUT unfortunately from all his contrived bullshit he has raised one or two 'valid' points.

So instead of having a cry about it, lets all prove him wrong

THIS time i will not leave unfufilled!
What happened last time they played Dan?

Power in their monitors blew or something? Its a shame that Portnoy couldnt even just do a drum solo or something  :P

Also upon leaving, a few blocks away Jebediah were playing some free show. DT should have used their gear

Any thoughts on the new DT album? I like it, but some of the lyrics are garbage :hmm:
