WA Gigs / Re: Turisas at Soundwave
« on: February 22, 2012, 03:52:23 AM »
Starting at 11? So in other words no one will be able to see them? I think every year I've gone to Soundwave we've rocked up an hour early and never got in till at least 40 minutes after gate times/ missing the first band or two (just a word or warning to those unaware)

The ammount of people i know who know nothing about metal but OMFG LOLZ DRAGONFORCE RULZ!!

Fuck guitar hero. Helping shit people pretend they know something about heavy music.

3
Lineup is shit-hot. Thursday is a lot better as it only requires one day of struggle for us with very early starts the next day. So from that point of view it gets the thumbs up from me

MY DYING BRIDE - The Barghest O' Whitby.

An 'ep' consisting of one 27 minute song. Absolutely shits all over their last two albums. Long (obviously), slow, depressvie and goddamn doomy. No melodic death/prog opeth riffs like a lot of 'doom' these days. Style wise think Turn loose the swans era.

Also check out their EVINTA release from earlier this year. 3cds, 10 minute 'songs'. Basically awesome atmospheric/doomy soundscapes and not a 'normal' my dying bride release. I love it. I also love with these two releases how they've done something COMPLETELY different and just said fuck that to doing another typical tried and tested my dying bride album.

NIGHT IN GALES - Five Scars. Been around for years (no doubt some of you older folk may know them) but this is their first album for 8 years or something ridiculous?? Anyway, it shreads. Think later-day At the gates but a bit more diverse with a few traditional metal/ ballad passages thrown in.

It's great to hear some proper Melodic death without the core.

One of the worst things about Soundwave: They recycle bands so often when there's so many other great bands they could bring instead.

Some very solid (proper!!) heavy metal there. Be good to hear it all done!

Yeah we get that alot! We didnt really write the Ep with vocals in mind but the album we are currently working on will have a few tracks with guest vocals, one of them being Rich from Vespers Descent  :)

Yeah he'd be perfect. It's not that i don't love instrumental music (i listen to a heap) it's just the song is so aggressive it kind of needs them.

Voyager's 'style' of music is one that I virtually never listen to.

Having said that, Voyager are fucking awesome live. It's like a musical experience not just a bunch of songs.

That song is musically awesome but to me it just screams out for some vocals.

Sounds like you're a fucking idiot. Congratulations.

If this line up was 8-10 years ago it'd be so much better. It's like reject nu-metal year or something.

HEAVEN SHALL BURN. I am excited. And kind of for Drdeg as long as they pretend the new album doesn't exist.

Bored of the typical, generic 'done 100 times before' metal that seems prominant currently?

Awesome epic-ness.

I really hope for this bands' sake that they put in as much effort to the music as they did this lame concept (sorry guys :P)

I think done right you would sell enough. As long as you aren't trying to make it go all-out professional and sell them in the 100's like Ormsby's ones seem to.

Some people take things way too seriously on the internet....

Perth Metal scene has been going slowly downhill since say 2006 when there used to be 2-3 gigs a week by top quality bands at top quality venues and frequent all age gigs. Naturally WF has died with it (lull is a bit of an understatement).
