Anyone thought of this I wonder..?
Should the drums (notes hit) be tuned to what the guitars/vocals/song keys are in roughly?
If a singer hits an A note at the same time as a rack tom is hit tuned to A# this will cause dissonance
Guitar plays an F while the FLOOR TOM hits an E
If your band is tuned to standard E, perhaps the drums must follow suit somehow??

Best way to get a good sound onstage is NOT to listen to the mixer when he says "turn that down..squash that freq..etc etc". 
EVERYTHING LOUDER THAN EVERYTHING ELSE.
I think all levels onstage should be even so that the drummer can hear ALL instruments. I always insist on putting the guit/bass cabs BEHIND the drummers 'ear field' so he/she has no excuse to fuck up due to not being able to hear the guits.
If one person is TOO LOUD then it throws everything out of whack. A BAND MUST MIX ITSELF ONSTAGE.
Low vocal volume in the foldbacks in always good too. If i was a guitarist on left or right side of a loud vocalist, it would piss me off gettin' blasted by his/her voice.
