MASTODON and CATHEDRAL no longer clash!  :headbang:

Looks like the timetable has changed, with Cathedral being pushed back a slot. Not sure what the other changes are yet, haven't looked to closely.

That link is not working for me(?)
This is great news if true but just looked on Soundwave website and timetable is still the same.

Life is Noise and Heathen Skulls Present: legendary stoner rock outfit Fu Manchu (USA) live at The Rosemount Hotel North Perth on Saturday May 5.

With support from Black Cobra (USA), Matt Sonic and the High Times (VIC)
and local men The Devil Rides Out

With Fu Manchu's Southern Californian roots spanning back to 1985, when they were a hardcore band called Virulence, through to countless line up changes over their 27 year history, it's safe to say they predate and have outlived every one of their fellow stoner rock allies.

Although Kyuss obtained greater commercial success, Fu Manchu are widely regarded as the visionary forefathers of the stoner rock scene that we know today. They've become one of the most influential and highly respected bands to have come out of the '90s Southern Californian desert rock scene, far outweighing that of their contemporaries, Queens of the Stone Age.

Widely known and hugely respected for their Mammoth Records era albums 'In Search Of', 'The Action Is Go', 'King of the Road', and 'California Crossing', Fu Manchu have recorded an astounding 10 studio albums, not to mention countless EPs and live releases.

With tours in 2011 honoring their 1996 classic 'In Search Of' and tours in 2012 honoring their 1997 classic 'The Action is Go', it's safe to say Fu Manchu are in fine form and delivering just what the kids need - a heavy dose of high octane fuzz.

Special guests are San Francisco's heaviest sludge metal duo Black Cobra (Southern Lord records), who headlined their own Australian tour in 2009, as well as Matt Sonic and the High Times and The Devil Rides Out.

Presale tickets are $45 + bf from http://lifeisnoise.com/, heatseeker, oztix and the usuals.

WA Gigs / CATHEDRAL last ever show - Soundwave Perth
« on: February 21, 2012, 05:03:34 AM »
I'll admit I haven't followed this band lately (any recent stuff worth my attention?) but their first couple of releases were stone cold classics.

Fate would have it that CATHEDRAL will play their last ever show, anywhere, at Perth Soundwave. Unfortunately they clash with Mastodon but for nostalgia's sake I can't miss this. Back to back with Paradise Lost on the same stage too, one for those who remember the Club A show all those years ago. At least I think it was Club A?? Gettin old.

Copied and pasted from Wikipedia cos I'm lazy: "John Baizley is a painter and musician based in Savannah, Georgia. He is notable for his album cover art and t-shirts for artists including Kylesa, Pig Destroyer, Darkest Hour, Daughters, Skeletonwitch, Torche, Cursed, Black Tusk, Kvelertak, Vitamin X, Flight of the Conchords, The Red Chord, Gillian Welch and his own band, Baroness for which he is the singer and rhythm guitarist."

This was a great show, surprised by lack of punters. Scotty Kelly is a legend. Both awesome guys also. A special night for the few there.

NSW Gigs / DOOMSDAY FESTIVAL SYDNEY - Saturday Oct 15 @ Sandringham Hotel
« on: October 05, 2011, 10:13:36 PM »
DOOMSDAY FESTIVAL SYDNEY

Headlining Doomsday Festival 2011 will be special international guests (and first-time Australian tourists) - COUGH from Richmond (home of Lamb of God, Pig Destroyer, GWAR and Municipal Waste).

This heavyweight quartet formed in 2005 with the intent of becoming the heaviest band ever to hail from their home city and is, without a doubt, well on the way. Taking inspiration from the lumbering doom of Black Sabbath, Cathedral, Pentagram, Electric Wizard and Sleep, along with the filthy sludge of the likes of Eyehategod, they impress with their ability to embody everything from all out aggression to hypnotic psychedelia and earth moving stoner grooves.

Local acts Clagg (VIC), Pod People (ACT), Summonus, Looking Glass, The Devil Rides Out (WA), Daredevil, Mother Mars, Rituals of the Oak will be enticing you to the Sando in October.

So if you're a fan of heavy music of the truly underground variety, Doomsday Festival 2011 is here to torment you in all the right ways. Brutal!

October 15th @ The Sando, Newtown, Sydney - COUGH (USA) with Clagg (VIC), Pod People (ACT), Summonus, Looking Glass, The Devil Rides Out (WA), Daredevil, Mother Mars, Rituals of the Oak

Presale tickets available through Moshtix here - www.moshtix.com.au/event.aspx?id=50057&ref=moshtix&skin

Can someone please clarify why they have the word hardcore in both the punk and metal categories?

Pretty sure that is a typo - the categories are hardcore/punk and hard rock/metal.

Western Australia / Re: History of Perth Metal.
« on: December 04, 2010, 05:27:58 PM »
'Disown' opens with a jerky and erratic keyboard loop (much better than some of the sounds on Control), pounding drums and Joey K's deep/low voice. Its a slow burner building in tension and getting more aggressive with an awesome finish. Interesting and creative lyrics which I believe were based around a book that i have long forgotten the name of.

The book was 'The War Zone'. Tim Roth later translated it into a film version starring Ray Winstone.
