General discussion / Re: Symphony X - Hell yes

I dunno Dan. I still dont see it as viable for someone like Symphony X to tour here just yet, as much as Id love them too.

Sadly, you're probably right... still, it's not as if they're totally underground here. I imagine most people who went to the Dream Theater concerts at least know of Symphony X.

They could have come with Nevermore too, they've been co-touring with them quite a bit IIRC.

Fuck yeah!

They OWE us a tour already, even if it's just one city! They did mention a tour of Australia back when Paradise Lost was out, although I think that might have been canceled due to Rullo having a kid or something. I figure Dream Theater would have put in the good word for Australian prog fans.

WA Gigs / Re: SOUNDWAVE 2011 - feat IRON MAIDEN & SLAYER
« on: March 09, 2011, 07:06:43 AM »
Awesome day all round, except for Slayer being on that shitty stage.

My only gripe is with the lack of bar staff and all bars running out of beer by 3pm, had extreme gutrot from premixes today, not so good.

Yeah, bar lines were terrible to say the least. Pretty much had to opt out of drinking until a little bit before Maiden, when the majority of the population migrated to the pit... otherwise, it was pretty much a choice of seeing a set, or getting a drink.

Did you mention you were shaving the hair off your entire body, rather than your head?

Perhaps his wife will sponsor him.

Stupid fucking venue, its an eyesore and should be turned into a shopping centre.

Judging by the security staff they contracted for the night (not to mention using metal detectors on people on the way out of the gig), they could have fooled me.

Still, can't say I've ever been in a venue with a fantastic rock/metal sound. At least it's not Rob Pav, or Challenge Stadium.

I was also certain it was a specific, hilarious, unnamed moderator from the start.

am i the only one still waiting for the hilarity? :/

Yeah, sorry... that was very misleading of me.
I was just struggling to think of other applicable words to borrow characters from.

For example, 'heterosexual' would not work... as it does not contain the letter 'i'.

Still, Bobby Jarzombek - good taste!

His drumming with Demons and Wizards was awesome... and I say that as a non-drummer! i.e. a real musician (:

TAPOUT is one of the mods here. I actually thought it was really obvious which one too.

At the very least I thought it was obvious he's playing with you all. Not even very subtlely.

Jez the problem is that you never change. :cunning:

Haha yeah, there's a difference between TAPOUT and the other so called "trolls" of the past... aside from the fact that some people may find TAPOUT to be funny in varying degrees.

I was also certain it was a specific, hilarious, unnamed moderator from the start.

*Cough* proxies *cough*

That's the best part, people that want to try to cheat will only be wasting their own time...

I figured you'd have some other contingency in place, like rejecting votes from IPs that don't originate in Australia. I suppose that would be a bitch for legit voters who are not currently in Perth/Aus though.

I agree with marijuana legalization and I don't even smoke it anymore. It fucks a lot of people over and makes them waste their lives but no more than alcohol and at least stoners don't get violent (often). Also if weed were legalized and regulated I wouldn't have access to it since I was 15. Was a shitload easier for me to get weed when I was a kid than beer.

Yeah, it's a little thing called personal responsibility that many are afraid of taking. It's not the fault of alcohol/weed/speed for you being an asshole/failure, it's you. That being said though, each drug does have its effects, but it's still the individual choosing to take them, and the individual acting further.

If preposterous volumetric taxation hasn't killed alcohol, nothing will.

It takes 40 bucks to get tipsy, yet people are still out there smashing the pints back as much as ever!!

Individual tolerance (and preference) aside, most people I know will find $40 dollars invested towards marijuana far, far better bang for the buck than alcohol... and not just in terms of the level of inebriation achieved, but the side-effects, both during and after (for example, the dreaded hangover). If marijuana was more readily available, legal, equally priced (or perhaps cheaper), and no longer "immoral", I certainly think it would steal away a decent chunk of recreational drinkers.

Then again, one can argue it would have no effect, because alcoholic drinks are just going to taste better while stoned. :P

What? Fuck off. If the US, for instance, stopped mandatory minimum sentences / jailing people for weed alone, the number of incarcerations would drop phenomenally. It costs a fuckload of money to keep that many people in jail while keeping the prisons up to standard...

It's a moral crusade, a somewhat foolhardy attempt to create societal change, and it guarantees votes from the right-leaning demographic.

It's a moral crusade.

Agreed... as typical of a stoner argument as it is, imagine if they produced and taxed weed in the same manner as cigarettes.
I figure it would be fairly inexpensive to produce, could be heavily taxed up to a price that still undercuts current street prices, and generate an absolute shitload of revenue.

Even though that would no doubt put an end to many drug dealer's careers, such a situation would also threaten or kill other industries, such as the alcohol industry.

I played with this guy over the weekend... WORST. DRUMMER. EVER.
Nah, he's good, but he should g2WAAPA. ;D

Actually, I gotta say... that was one of the best impromptu jams I've had, especially with a drummer. Tom for Percussion Man 2010!

Does anyone remember that QueefGiblet guy? It's all starting to sound very familiar. Just like recycling episodes of Home and Away. After a while people forget the past and caught up in the 'latest drama'. Which in reality is probably the continuation of a personal need for drama. Anyone?

Hey I didn't threaten anyone, I was actually the one being threatened. Good times.

If I recall the reason people got so upset may have had something to do with dissing melodic death metal/cheese metal/chaos divine. Funny.

Welcome back.

Basically operates on the same principles as a religion as far as I'm concerned... I find it particularly amusing that most of the hardcore vegetarians I know of also have a shelf worth of dietary supplements/pills to compensate. A few I've known also suffer from anemia... go figure. :p

I had my iron tested, and it was perfectly fine. I don't take iron supplements, and I never have. There's iron in vegetables.

Hey, some vegetarians are picky about their vegetables... ewww, I don't like broccoli, I'll just eat more potato chips to compensate!

Fucking religious vegetarians... and I say that as an "ex-vegetarian"... if people want to eat meat, let them, it's their own bloody business. Get off the soap box and stick to your asparagus.
It's nothing more than a guilt trip campaign. I don't give a flying fuck if that chick is hot. Veggos trying to push their beliefs onto other people pisses me off.

Also Men have different nutritional requirments than Women. Men need to eat meat.
