Western Australia / Re: Perth Local Metal CD?

There's a lot of different ideas floating around but it'd be best to pick:

There's no 'right or wrong' way to do it just different ideas and target audience.

That's right! A mate lent me a stack of burnt cd's. This was the first time I had heard Deathspell Omega, Blut Aus Nord, Xasthur and Druddkh. To this day I have seen very little artwork from any of those bands, but those cd's kicked ass. I maintain that music is the most important element of any music promo. I hope reading this paragraph helps to understand my opinion.

Just make this thing happen before it passes again.

This isn't my project but:

Neverborn
The Uncreation
SightTrancend
Bereavement
Binding the Flesh
Grave Forsaken
Ardent
Ill Vision
Angelsai
Psychonaut
Combined Death Toll
Nexus

Vespers Descent
Sins of the Father
Dethlahem
Maximum Perversion

Thats 16 potential bands. Many of them have already showed interest.

I have a feeling Cuntscrape and DFC won't be on it due to copyright laws. Just like The Furor couldn't be on this compilation before.

I remember this getting held up awhile back by bands that hadn't finished or even started recording songs yet. It can take a long time so it could be an idea to just use bands with songs that are already recorded. I'm sure there are fifteen bands with decent recordings that would be in for this. There was a list going, I recommend getting it going again.

Neverborn
The Uncreation
SightTrancend
Bereavement
?????....

This is just a suggestion.

Why not just get some money off 15 bands or so who have songs ready to go? Make the sound levels even or whatever needs to be done. Then get them printed on CDR discs (band\song\track# written on the cd) en masse. Artwork on a cover is fine but the product is the music, not the artwork. Artwork is good for attracting attention yes, but again this is not about artwork, it's about music. A good product will sell itself. Burn the absolute fuck out of them and hand them to people who like metal but aren't familiar with local bands or the local scene.

I suppose someone needs to ask who is the target maket? National and international promo is going to be hit and miss and also just another cd among an already flooded market and of course is going to be more time consuming, more expensive to distribute and would need to be of a far higher standard which means spending more $$$ and resulting in less exposure.

However, local distribution (free (or charge $2 to help print more)) hits a direct market and actually draw people to see local bands and show those unfarmiliar that we have some great bands here in Perth worthy of thier attention.

This is just a suggestion.

I don't care where you send the CD as long as we are on it.  We recently got put on a compilation CD in California, gave us a bit more exposure but little of any real tangible value, so clearly it doesn't matter where the compilation goes, interest in underground metal is limited.

Just DO it, I will throw in.  Last time I checked there were about 15 bands who wanted to be part of it.  There are stacks of unsigned bands in town who would go for this, Uncreation, Nexus, Neverborn, Sins of the Father, Combined Deathtoll, Grave Forsaken, Bereavement, these are just a few of the bands who said "yep, let's do it" and it would have gone ahead if only the other bands who wanted in were more organised.

Speak to WF member Cort.  He had a go at this shit too.

Ran into Sasquatch at a local pub this week, after hearing about the idea he offered to help manage it all for you.

Someone drop him a line!

The Uncreation are in for sure! Who is Saquatch? Anyone know how I can can hold of him?

I'm keen to get my money in early to secure a place on the compilation he's organising.

General discussion / Re: Tax and Tax returns for bands?
« on: May 04, 2009, 05:58:50 AM »

Fuck the taxation dept - try and reclaim every cent you can. The less of your $ paid in tax, the better.

Watch out for this guy! He sounds really pissed off! I wonder what would happen if he got short changed at Hungry Jacks?

It sucks that some-one is making money off your music but this has been happening for years.

Personally I don't give a shit if some-one sells my music, although I'd prefer they gave it away for free. The music i create is not created for profit. It's created out of need to get it out of my system and because I love making music. I know it costs a lot to put a cd together but you cant seriously expect to make a profit from black metal can you? If somebody sells my music to some-one else then they are doing me a favour. Spread it around like a fucking disease i say! "It's available everywhere! It's unstoppable!" Black Metal especially is not about money. It never was....
.
Brutal, stop your whining and pick up your bass and write some more songs instead. I'm amazed you've been so adamant and vocal about this considering you were selling illegal Wacken DVD's to people in Perth not too long ago. I don't know if you remember this but I asked you if felt any guilt about selling those illegal DVD's and your response was that it was justifiable because you have to recoup the cost of going to Germany and hopefully make enough money to fund going  again to see bands and record more DVD's to sell. I wonder how the people who illegally sell your music justify it to themselves?

Weak  :)

Patience Friends, the stars move in their cycles and soon will be in malignific places and alignments.
As this time draws near auspicious minds work in unison to advantage our dark arts.....

Upon realisation of this time new blasphemies strong and impure will spew forth from The Uncreation
and cruel nature itself shall reel in horror of this manifestation.....

THE UNCREATION.

The Frontline / Re: Reputation: do we want it?

I haven't posted on here for months and my reputation went from -1 to -4. Where is the logic? I must have offended somebody with something I said or did elsewhere. Is this legal? Oh fuck, who gives a shit.
