I say it should be in each person's profile for if they want to enable it on their account or not.

Maybe if we have a Rep which you can chose to be hidden from the main view if chosen to do so, but it is still in the profile so if you dont want people to see it straight away only if they care they can look to find your rep.

Well on one hand I think Reputation can give false impressions... but on the other hand it's all just a bit of harmless fun.

Or Scene points.  Then if you're posting in something like the Nerd's corner, and you're totally un-nerdly, you can still lose points while the system can still make sense.
