Former GORGOROTH members Gaahl (vocals; real name: Kristian Espedal) and King ov Hell (bass; real name: Tom Cato Visnes), who recently lost a court battle against guitarist Infernus (real name: Roger Tiegs) over the rights to the GORGOROTH band name, have chosen the new banner of GOD SEED to represent their art in the future. GOD SEED was chosen for many reasons; it represents the will to grow, the god within man and nature and the will to reach one's highest potential. "God Seed" is also the title of a track from the last album released under the "GORGOROTH" banner and in that respect it symbolizes what is brought from the past into a new beginning and a new future. Gaahl and King's new CD, which has been in the works as a "GORGOROTH" album, will now be released as the first GOD SEED LP and should be in stores in late 2009 via the group's rumored new label home, Norway's Indie Recordings. King comments: "The past 18 months has been a struggle on many levels. Therefore I'm very excited about GOD SEED ? even on a personal level. Hopefully this will lead to growth to me personally and for the band as a whole. It's time to use my energy on something that wants to live, rather than to use my energy on something that wants to die and be part of my past!!!"Gaahl and King entered the studio on August 25, 2008 in the their hometown of Bergen, Norway to begin recording eight new tracks composed by the bassist for an as-yet-untitled new album. Along with Gaahl, King and Frost (SATYRICON) on drums, the full recording lineup includes Teloch (guitar) and Ice Dale (guitar). ENSLAVED's Herbrand Larsen once again produced the band in the studio.
GORGOROTH's PEST Replaces GAAHL's Vocals On 'True Norwegian Black Metal' AlbumNorwegian black metallers GORGOROTH recently spent time at Threeman Recordings in Stockholm with producer Nico Elgstrand (ENTOMBED). During the sessions, GORGOROTH frontman Pest replaced Gaahl's vocals for the "True Norwegian Black Metal - Live in Grieghallen" album, which was originally released in June 2008 via Regain Records. According to a posting on the group's web site, GORGOROTH mainman Infernus (guitar) "has already consulted legal representatives regarding this album, and is prepared to support Regain Records in the label's ongoing legal conflict with two of the band's ex-members, if any such support is needed."
GOD SEED — the Norwegian band featuring former GORGOROTH members King (bass; real name: Tom Cato Visnes) and Gaahl (vocals; real name: Kristian Espedal) — has released the following statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET:"It has been rumored that Gaahl and King have disbanded GOD SEED. However, this is not the case. Gaahl has chosen to retire from metal music. It should not be assumed that this decision has anything to do with Gaahl and King's working relationship. Gaahl has made this decision for his own personal artistic reasons."Commented King in a statement to BLABBERMOUTH.NET: "There is no drama and there is no bad blood between us; Gaahl just wants a break from metal. GOD SEED will be frozen and I'm prepared to pick it up again when the time is right. Meanwhile, I will focus on other musical projects."
The cover artwork for "Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt", the ninth album from GORGOROTH, can be viewed below. Due on October 21 in Europe and November 11 in the U.S. via Regain Records, the CD was recorded at Tomas Asklund's Monolith Studio and features Infernus on guitar, Frank Watkins (OBITUARY) on bass, Pest on vocals and Tomas Asklund on drums. Since Infernus wrote all the music for the album and extensive rehearsals and a pre-production recording had also been completed before second guitarist Tormentor rejoined the band last year, it was decided that it would be more convenient for Infernus to record all the guitars on the LP. "Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt" was produced by Infernus and co-produced/engineered by Tomas Asklund. It was mastered at the Cutting Room in Stockholm. "Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt" track listing:01. Aneuthanasia 02. Prayer 03. Rebirth 04. Building a Man 05. New Breed 06. Cleansing Fire 07. Human Sacrifice 08. Satan-Prometheus 09.
