personally...i couldnt really give a f#ck what people do to their properties...
if no one complains...then i dont care...its not like i go around looking for jobs haha.

with nicks case...he could probably get away with it...for a while...but with regards to noise...if he cant contain any component of noise withing his property boundary (eg bass, drums vocals) then its more likely that a neighbour/nearby resident will complaint...and question whether the "shed has approval" or if its allowed to be x distance from boundary...and thens thats where the nightmare starts. ive been involved/sucked in to so many of these situations.

as i said before if you want to know more on how the noise regs work send me a pm...i dont want to bore everyone with it.

also something else to consider...you will probably want/need some ventilation or even better airconditioning in this room or its gonna be a sweatbox.

My step dad's an aircon repairer/installer by trade and does some electrician work. He's already installed a few power points in the new house.

For some fucked up reason WF won't let me post photobucket pics so I can't post up the shed...

Nice work Haydz, i've got some serious thinking to do.

would it not be cheaper to put wood frames up and use that sound insulating stuff packed between that and the tin walls, then just gyprock it up?

it would be much cheaper.... and far less permanent, and easier, and quicker... but will it do the job properly? Im not qualified enough to answer that one...

hrrm i dunno about less permanent? Considering thats how its done over eastern states when they build houses not out of double brick like here.

No it wouldn't, the walls of the shed are thin and flimsy at best, there's also a gap between the walls and the roof. It'd be a cheap and nasty job and a waste of money.

well i thought was putting brick in there, instead of the double brick could just go single with the timber :-/ but what do I know, only a dumb sparky :P I just put wholes in the damn things.

brick veneer (or reverse brick veneer) is no-where as good insulation-wise (and thus, I assume sound proof-wise) as double cavity brick. It's by far the best method, just that it is quite a major job.

As for timber not being as permanent, if you had 2 houses identical in size and shape, one made from double brick and the other full veneer, I give you a crowbar, sledge hammer, saw and a few other demolition tools and see which house takes longer to pull down. My money is on the brick, by a long shot.

obviously the house that was double brick would take longer. I dont know the price of bricks or the bats really so i was just thinking of a maybe more cost effective way than double brick with insulation inside.

I hate bolo.. he shot van's dad :'( prick.

How about Cinder blocks??

They could then be filled with cement or insulation, i've heard of both.

Pricey but would it be cheaper than double bricking? I know they're pretty damn expensive..

Cinder blocks (as far as I can tell) are more porous. They also have dirty great holes in them, so they certainly would not give you as good a result as brick.

Correct me if I'm wrong about the porousness thing though.

pretty sure you're talking about the aerated concrete blocks, Nick. Yeah, they're shit. Clay bricks all the way.

as far as cost effectiveness, double brick will be more expensive, but not by a great deal because timber isnt exactly cheap these days either.

Double brick or lime stone blocks.

If you don't want the room to sound like a horrible echo chamber then go for the limestone rocks as all the odd shapes will defract sound & the lime stone will absorb more of the sound.

If you go with double brick, you will need to use something on the inside of the walls to absorb & if possible defract sound. Carpet is a waste of time. By the time you do all this it may end up no cheaper or time consuming than going for the limestone.
Limestone will also give a more temperate environment, so less of a sweat box.

Also what are you gonna do about the roof as I can tell you from experience snare drums go straight through ceilings. Hell I have high ceilings with tiles & the only way to stop the snare punching through the ceiling was to get in there with 3 layers of carpet some foam & insulation bats.

Yeeouch, Limestone.. Expensive.

What about Limestone for the first 4 feet high on the inside wall of the room? I think that's how Elite studios are.

I can't read anything, unless it's in forum or email format. :)

Even if it was as important as this which could cost me 10K and could end up sounding a room at roachworks. :P
