Albums illegally available for download purchase
« on: February 25, 2009, 11:37:16 PM »
Greetings all. I thought other bands might wanna read this.

I googled searched my band, Naetu, to see if there were any new reviews I hadn't seen yet, when I stumbled across a web site selling downloads of our album without our knowledge. Dunno how the rest of you feel about this shit, but it fucking got my blood boiling! I've e-mailed the site to have our material removed, failing that, I'll explore legal options. The site is:

www.mp3musicasite.com

Its bad enough knowing our stuff is out there being downloaded for free, but for someone to try and make a profit for our hard work without our concent is bull shit!

I strongly recommend other bands to check this site for your material, and even do a google search to see if theres others like this one. If you do find more, let everyone know so we can try and shut this shit down.

Brutal

Get fucked!!! This is bullshit, just searched and Grotesque is on there too!!! We should work out every band thats on there locally and bring a class action against the cunts, might actually get a settlement that way.

Agreed.

I'm not after a cash payout here, I just want this shit stopped. I'll speak to our new guitarist, Sentient, who just so happens to be an industrial lawyer. Get some legal advice from him, see where we stand. But a class action sounds like it'll be the go if they dont remove the illegal content.

ALL BANDS - e-mail this site first, and give them the chance to do the right thing. If they ignore requests, then we push things to the next level.

Yeah its good that people are listening to our stuff, but some fukwit is also taking profits that should be going to the bands. And that aint right!

Is this stuff really up there? I searched stuff and it comes up with a result but when you click on it, nothing happens. Sure it's not just some empty search result?

Ha! THats actually kinda funny  :P

Well its showing me its there, I did a test run on it which involved registering, adding to a shopping cart and then being re-directed to a payment page. I'm not registering my credit card....

And SOD, napster was just giving the shit away, not trying to make a profit for them selves without giving the bands anything. This is way worse......

Anyway, done some work. The english affiliate site is www.allmuzz.com. They register their payments using a site called http://webmasters.lavamus.com.

I've e-mailed both sites, and it hasn't come back as a delivery failure like the MP3musica one did. So hopefully I'll get a response from those to.

Also found Mhorgl on there, the list is ever growing.

That sites probably a shell dude, If most of the generated searches are fakes, a common occurrence with allot of torrent/Rapidshare sites (It pushes them up the search rankings and thus generates a higher Click through ratio) then you are wasting your time. Unless you have gone through and purchased one of the songs, then its probably a fake.

The songs are there, because if you click on the "listen to" icon a little window pops up and plays the song before you purchase it.

The question is where are they sourcing the content, if it is actually on there. Could there be someone locally supplying them and to get a cut?

Either way, the joint seems pretty suss:

P.S. Sure it's a dodgey place that people should know about, but I don't think it's necessary to post in every section Brutal :P

It's relevant to everyone so just one thread in the general section would suffice.

Anything that gets released these days pops up on torrent/mp3 websites. Its just the way it is. Nothing you can really do about it unfortunatly :(

Which sucks for us that put alot of work, hard effort, time, and money into getting something recorded and released....but all we can do is try an use the internet as a tool to help expose our bands and music.

Check out our band, Arkarion:

ummm.... get your law suite boots on.
what they are doing is highly illegal in the eyes of international copyright law.
they have to not only have your permission to possess your music, but to sell it is a completely different story.
unfortunately there is no slowlight stuff on that site, otherwise i would be on the phone to my lawyer right now.

We aren't on there, but it wouldn't bother me if we were.  We gave away 500 of our CDs to randoms at Machine head and that cost us heaps, but it is all about the exposure.
If someone wants to put us out there for the world to listen to and it costs us nothing to do it, they can go right ahead.

I think the main gripe is that these people are making money out of it, and you arent.

Exactly! I accepted a long time ago that people WILL be able to get stuff for free off the net, its crap, but thats something that would take way too much time and resources to stop. But when someone takes it to the next level, where they decide to sell our stuff without our concent or paying any royalties, has zero input in the creative process and collects money for it, thats just fucked.

Apparently theres a few of these sites, I haven't come across the others yet. Cheers for getting that info Daz, and sorry bout the rampant posting, I got a little worked up....as I do  :P

After thinking about it over night, the actual site seems ok, they're just hosting the material. Someone has created an account, uploaded our music and they would have had to check a box that says they have the right to distribute that material. So I to am wondering if its a local doing this, its a bit sus that theres so many local releases on there. If I found out it is, EXPECT A LYNCH MOB AT YOUR DOOR  >:(

Last time I searched local death/black metal Naetu, The Furor etc I came across a few of these too. I figure it only takes one limp wristed hacker with ebay to begin "sourcing material" for their own personal gains. Search results find album art, lyrics, jewel cases and of course the artists music for free download or super cheap prices all throughout Europe, the u.s, Russia, Greece, china, timbuktoo, ..everywhere. Not sure how easy it would be to stop something like this either..  :-\
Remember me saying you should have copyrighted our shit when we got the discs printed Brutal! :P :err: Still if this shits operating at this level I figure no one is safe. Oh well, bravo to Daz for his sleuthing, maybe there is something that can be done after all..

Oh yeah,  I always love a nice lynch mob, where can I sign up?  :skull:

try doing a search for eastern states bands and see if they turn up?

i've seen a fair bit of perth stuff going around on torrent sites and other p2p networks, and in my oppinion, thats usually a good thing, especially if its someone overseas who is downloading it, as that is exposure you could never get with legit copies and stuff, people just wouldn't buy it, least this way, they get it for free, if they like it, they will pass it along and maybe if they like it enough they will place an order to buy it.

but i agree selling it is wrong, unless it turns out it is legitly run by someone like dyson or something and you actually are getting the royalties without realising it (though im sure most of you arn't that dumb to not realise)

My personal opinion is that music should be free and shared. However I will support bands in other ways such as going to shows and buying merchandise. For local bands $10 for a CD isn't much and I would pay if the band was good.
