I accepted a long time ago that Chaos material will and is being downloaded through torrent sites for free and i can't really complain because i will download new stuff to check it out before buying, but making money out of bands music without giving them a cent is farked and if it was real then legal action is deffinately an optiion.

yeah, its a whole new level of scum, thats for sure. I'm guilty of downloading music - I reckon 90% of people that read this post will be too - though selling it with no rights what-so-ever is just WAY too low to even consider.

i'm with skript

i spend way more on merch and concert tickets and retarded band-related paraphernalia than i do on CDs.

i guess it's because you can't download a t-shirt

but that would be awesome

cds in the broader music scene nowdays are merely tools to attract ticket and merch sales. If people download the album there is a good chance that person will then pay alot more in a ticket to see a live show (for more developed bands).

Most bands concede to this and so the whole 'music v napster' debates and alike are kind of a thing of the past.

Remember me saying you should have copyrighted our shit when we got the discs printed Brutal! :P

Just for the people that might not be aware - copyright is automatic, as soon as you create something. The only complications can be in proving you created something before someone else if it has been reproduced. When it is something like an album that is pretty easy to prove so you shouldn't have to worry about that side of things too much.

This is dodgy, not only from you guys in bands' point of view BUT ALSO FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF THE BUYER. I'd be pretty pissed knowing that my hard earned cash that I'm chossing to spend to help a band is going elsewhere.

Thats helpful as the letter C inside a circle was not to be found when we released that. Rad!

Gareth, like I told you last year (and Darren has verified what I'm about to say). Australian copyright laws stipulate that no actuall registration of original music is needed, if its your material and recorded/made in Australia, your covered, thats why I didnt worry about it. The circled C is only for show in the australian music industry. And this is why I create back up files that are dated of everything we did, do, and will do. So if a dispute was to ever come up, we my friend, are covered ;)

Bottom line. This is NOT a site allowing FREE downloads. This is a site allowing someone else to cash in on our hard work UNLAWFULLY. We have Australian copyright laws on our side, even if you didnt register your releases. And must I stress this point, this is not about trying to cash in on any profits that may have been made, its about stopping some lazy dishonourable fuck from taking money from people who ARE willing to do the right thing and pay for the downloads. SIMPLE

I am totally for exposure through shared music on the internet, but selling your own music without consent on the internet is just fucking unforgivable.

Hmmm... i dunno...

says on the website that most of the mp3s available (including naetu) are:

"High Quality 192 Kbps. Gain up to 30% discount on EVERY track!"

which is lower quality that what i rip my CDs to CD quality bitrate at (320Kbps). Does this make a difference (ive never heard a 192kbps rip so i wouldnt know how much worse it is compared to whats available on the CD) ?

Hey Saunders - remember back a few years ago when you rang and abused McAfee Antivirus for putting Viruses on your PC and when i came and had a look it turned out the viruses etc were sex trackers and such from you downloading porn from dodgy websites? Hehehe! ;D

Well generally anything from 128 Kbps is fine quility wise, 192 Kbps isn't a bad rate.

but selling your own music without consent on the internet is just fucking unforgivable.

yeah god damn people who sell their own music online, they deserve the death penalty!

I remember ripping 1/2 (circa 700 discs) my CD collection  to 128kbps and thinking it was *OK* but my ears started hurting after listening to the mp3s at that bitrate for more than 1/2 an hour at a time.

I then had my portable HDD crash and i lost the lot, so when i decided to get a new one and re-rip the lot i also decided to up the ante and go 320kbps (which sounds great and is indistinguishable from the CD). Now that disk capacity is cheap as chips, i dont rip at anything less.

Another boring pointless fact about my boring pointless life :P

Correction - I abussed them because a week after installing the software and downloading all required updates, my PC got infected with a trojan, from er......... said sites ;) They claimed it would stop trojan's, I still got one, hence the abuse, and a full refund  ;D

You geeky little scally wag you  ;)

It sucks but it's something every band will have to deal with.
Even if you shut down this site there is a thousand others offering your music (most of them offering it for free!)
Search your band name on google and if you've made an impact your songs will certainly be there for download.
Isn't the internet grand  :err:

The question is where are they sourcing the content, if it is actually on there. Could there be someone locally supplying them and to get a cut?

They can only get hold of it if someone with a copy of the music uploads it. It's not always the person who buys the cds though. Anyone you lend a cd to could do it...
