TRUTH INC  RECORDS PRESENTS
ATG5 - AGAINST THE GRAIN 2009

From its humble beginnings four years ago as an idea between friends, Against The Grain Festival has always prided itself on the idea of growth, with festival organisers Lee Gardiner and Jason North working tirelessly throughout the year to ensure that each year, Australia's premier all ages all Australian metal festival gets bigger and badder year in year out. After four years of bringing the cr?me de le cr?me of Australian acts to Adelaide on one day, the question Truth Inc Records was faced with, how can we make ATG5, bigger than all before it?? And the obvious answer, move the venue, double the bands and this time around, bring all the metal genres together, and bring the finest Australian acts the country has to offer. Previous Against The Grain festivals have showcased the countries metal / thrash bands, but with metal culture flourishing worldwide, and its audiences tastes expanding, ATG 5 will feature not only the Australia's best metal acts, but it will showcase the best and up and coming Grind metal, Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Black Metal, Folk Metal  and more, over two stages, September 19th 2009 at Live on Light Square - Adelaide. Always using the legendary ?Metal For The Brain? fest as a benchmark, this year the Truth Inc Records team can boast THE metal line up it has been working to achieve over the last five years.

Against The Grain 5, this year will undoubtedly herald Adelaide as Australian metals new home as the finest bands under the 'metal' umbrella display their own variants of the many sub genres they represent, not only showcasing metal as a whole, but demonstrating outstanding song writing and musicianship, making Against The Grain a true exhibition of metal as an artistic medium.

With great excitement and pride, here are the first announcement of bands:

After having to cancel last year?s performance at ATG4 we are proud to announce that Alchemist (ACT) will close ATG5 this year, A unique metal hybrid unlike anything that you've ever heard before Alchemist will showcase why they are in a league of their own.  On the back of their acclaimed new album ?nOn?  Noise Terrorists The Amenta (NSW) will make their first appearance at ATG5 and bring with it a barrage of sonic noise and devastation. Prepare to witness the future of extreme metal! When it comes to 100% pure Aussie Heavy Metal look no further than Lord (NSW), armed with a new album ?Set in Stone? and a shredfest of a  live show, LORD will set the ATG stage on fire. Double Dragon (SA) and Truth Corroded (SA), ATG main stayers and organisers will again be back on the home stage, following another great year for both bands which saw Truth Corroded tour China for the first time and Double Dragon supporting international heavyweights The Haunted and Soilwork, and appearing at Soundwave 09. With widespread critical acclaim of their live performances and their demo ?The Aurora Veil?  Ne Obliviscaris (Vic) create a wall of progressive, symphonic metal that transcends genres from black metal to jazz.  Separatist (Tas) wield their own impressive versatile style of playing, they've been described as Technical Death metal, Blackened-Death and everything in between and there is nothing that will stand in the way of their metal onslaught. Black metallers Empyrean (Qld) combine dark, melodic soundscapes with black and death metal to forge a unique brand of symphonic extreme metal that will both captivate and brutalise, Empyrean are set for dominance. Adelaide prepare for battle  as Folk metal warriors Claim The Throne (WA) pack up the battle ships and set sail to Adelaide for the first time with their unique brand of folk metal destruction.  Universum (SA) have been turning heads Australia wide with their debut release "Leto Destinatus" Receiving Triple J airplay and a national touring spot with Dragonforce.  And finally the hard working Octanic (SA) who fuse elements of European melodic death metal, heavy industrial grooves, contemporary hard rock and classical sensibilities to create music that has often been described as 'Epic?.

So there you have it the first run of bands, more bands will be announced soon so for more info please visit www.myspace.com/atgfest.

Spread the word and make ATG5 the complete metal experience.

SECOND ANNOUNCEMENT

Before we get into the final announcement of bands we want to let you all know that ATG5 has moved back to Fowlers live. As most of you who live in Adelaide know Fowlers was due to close but has been re-opened for a further 2 year. Fowlers has been home to ATG for the last 2 years and we are excited to have the relationship continue. That being said we like to extend a huge thanks to all involved at Live on Light for their hard work and wanting to be a part of ATG.

So here is the 2nd and final announcement of bands for ATG5.

ATG is Adelaide Metal proud, so we bring you 2 of the most respected SA bands in their genres: Headlining stage 2 are the colossal Mournful Congregation (SA), after playing their first ever shows ever earlier this year and then heading over to Europe mid 2009, Mournful Congregation return to Adelaide to play their last remaining Australian live performance for 2009 and bring ATG5 to a crushing conclusion. Adelaide Grindcore Kings Captain Cleanoff (SA) make their first appearance at ATG on the back of their critically acclaimed album ?Symphonies Of Slackness?, with an intense live show we expect nothing short of mayhem when CC take the stage. What can be said about Alarum (Vic) that hasn?t been said before, a technical metal heads wet dream who have won every accolade that can be given to an Aussie metal band. Having toured the globe with the genres finest acts their technical/progressive jazz/fusion influenced style of thrash/death metal will keep the ATG crowd both mesmerized and pulverised. With a new line up, new vigour and new label to call home, Truth Inc Record's Lynchmada (Qld) will return to Against The Grain festival to show Adelaide the reason they are heralded as one of Brisbanes finest metal acts. With a sleu of support slots, albums and national tours under the 'bandana' the boys will undoubtley prove why they have been head hunted by Truth Inc Records for the last two years. A blazing onslaught of technical riffery, lightning fast drumming and crushing guttural vocals, is the best way to describe Gallows for Grace (WA) last seen in SA playing the ATG4 after party GFG push the boundaries of Death Metal by blurring the line between traditional and modern styles. The Asian metal scene is producing some high quality metal of late, and one of the bands at the forefront of this explosion are Singapore?s Bhelliom, the heavy groove-driven Melodic death metal act are in Australia for a short tour and are the first ever international band to play at ATG. Calm and peaceful Vs barrelling and tumultuous ?neath (QLD) are one of Australia's most exciting and contemporary metal acts, blending dark progressive death metal elements with flowing melody and gentle dissonant unease, ?neath are definitely one of the must see bands of ATG5. (Qld?s) In Death will be playing their first Adelaide show at ATG5, armed with their Death / Obituary influenced assault. Featuring on drums for In Death is ex The Undamynd ( 1997-2001 ) drummer Ben Mackay, who will play his first show in Adelaide in 6 years after The Undaymnd called it a day and vocalist Lee joined Double Dragon. Hometown bruisers Taunt (SA) will make their debut appearance at 'The Grain, with a new CD, crushing live show and a growing number of fans, Taunt are the obvious choice to represent the re birth of Adelaide metal bands. As with Taunt, melodic death new commers inflitraitor have ensured a spot on the line up, with a growing legion of fans and boasting members from legendary Adelaide bands Embodiment 12:14 and Through Closed Eyes, with a new cd on the way mixed by Scar Symmetry axeman Jonas Kjellgren (Truth Corroded, Carnal Forge), the future the looks more bright for Infiltraitor. Representing Adelaide's new blood of metal, and rounding off the line up are melodic thrashers Arcadia (SA) who over the last 6 months showed the tenacity and drive it takes to push their music to the next level. With a new CD near completion, Arcadia have their opportunity to mix it with the big boys of Australian metal.

So there you have it, the complete list for ATG5, we have worked hard to bring you what we think is a great diverse line up that showcases the range of talent from all genres of heavy music Australia Wide. We hope too see the Adelaide metal community out in full force, and like always we welcome all musicians and metal supporters from interstate to Adelaide September 19 to take part in the biggest gathering of Australian metal for 2009.
