Circle pits
« on: March 11, 2009, 04:56:49 AM »
Call me boring and old-fashioned, but what the fuck is it with circle pits?

It irritates the shit out of me when getting pushed to the side at a good metal gig just so I can make room for a bunch of mad cunts wanting to run around in a huge circle. Seriously. Get some balls and bring back the moshpit you pussies.  :headbang:

if your ballsy enough when they start it up just run straight through it.

I don't mind hardcore dancing but not at a metal gig. It should stay at hardcore shows.

I couldn't be bothered with moshing/dancing in general at a gig anymore. Those circle pits are annoying cos they take up a lot of space and they push everyone not dancing further away from the stage.
I'd kill you, but that might get blood on my shirt.

At amps seems as though its about 50/50 between moshing and hardcore dancing. At the SSS gig i got a bit pissed off at the flailing limbs and just tripped one of the cunts over. Its normally the drunk ones who are the worst.

Circle pits are just a mating dance for pole smoking fruits who have no sense of rhythm and no place at metal gigs.

Any band that calls for one instantly loses my respect.

I'll bang my head, I'll thrash the fuck about, but I'm not moving aside so a bunch of pussies can run around in circles like they're playing kiss chasey.

Hear, hear..

We're called head bangers for a reason - get up there and bang your head til you get whiplash.

People that do that stuff are too busy running around to even pay attention to the bands or music, trying to out do or impress each other. If you want to be a poser and do some new age crap like that or jumping or airy fairy milling then do it in your bedroom.  8)

I've never really understood them either. Listening to metal doesn't tend to make me want to run around in a large circle. But hardcore dancing at a metal show pisses me off a lot more, there were a few in the pit at mastodon a few years back.

well theres the people who open a circle to run around the circle without even roughing up, and then theres the people who open up a circle to get a slam pit going, they are a little bit more respectable since people are at least getting hurt :P

Dam straight ya'll ! whatever happen to good ol' up and down?!!!I cringe now everytime i hear a band say "open this shit up", seriously it's old. Ie soundwave, in which everyband that played on the metal stage did the sammme thing right after one another, "open this shit up!" or "lets see a cricle pit!". I loved the show but i would have thought they would have at least tried to do something different than the band(s) before them.

I think f you're watching a band minding you're own neck tearing business and have someone carrying on like a fucking shitwit knock you over because they were playing jungle gym, then we have the right to do the same back {without resorting to running in a circle}. Get fucked.

I can comprehend how the energies in metal music can translate to rhythmic 'head banging' , but running in a circle?  ???

Sounds/look(s) like posertards.

The thing that makes me angriest at a show is when you cling to the front bar all night, forgoing drinks, toilets and socialising to be sure you will be up close and personal with your favourite people ... and then some half-witted blow-in decides to spend the entire show punching, pushing and elbowing you, putting you in a chokehold, pulling your hair, spitting at you ... anything to move you away from that bar.

AND they don't really know/like the band.  >:(

Why not make a SQUARE PIT?

Personally, I'd like to see an "X" pit.
Where people would lineup in the 4 corners of the bar, then run into the centre creating a flurry of head clashes, and damaged limbs, lots of blood noses and generally one big mess. Im sure Lamb Of God would really get a kick out of that.

Pits were created in the Bay Area huh ?
I thought it was moshers who wanted a more more dangerous form of ring-ring-a-rosy.

Anyway, speaking of circle pits , I heard the NRL is going back to the old slogan of "Thats my Team !". But since Brett Stewart was involved they want to change it slightly to "Thats My Teen !" .

You'd have to be a fuckin idiot to go in it.

Actually, you might go alright if you go in turned to the side just before collision, leading with your strongest shoulder.
You'd still end up on your ass, due to shear weight of numbers, you'll probably get trampled too. People would be charging in from all sides, so you cant back out.

Bah, there's nothing too bad about circle pits, especially in the open air. I remember watchin' As I Lay Dying at a distance at Wacken (think I was with Smitty or Sean) and the size of the circle pits was fucking ENORMOUS and looked so damn impressive on the big screen. We're talking about 20m+ diameter.

Unless you're some dickhead called Peter Dolving asking for one at nearly 3am ???

The biggest "circle pit" i've ever seen was at SummerBreeze 08. it was going around and through the crowd and took about 90 seconds to make 1 full revolution, it seemed to go on for hours. :P

In actual fact it was about a thousand people running around in a massive oblong shaped circle around the recording tower and the mosh pit.

Agreed. About as interesting as running in a circle.

Go on, try it. I did, its fucking boring.

Alternatively, form your own circle pit by nailing one foot to the floor.

SOD is correct. Circle pits started in the Bay area & Slayer were one of the first bands to make them a regular event internationally on tour. The Slayer pits were fast & violent.
Circle pits are great when every cunt goes as hard & fast as possible, anyone in front going slower than you who gets in the way gets bulldozed.
A true circle pit is the metal equiv to speedball, the ball is juat an excuse to slam into other like minded willing people as hard as possible as is the circle.
I walked backward unknowingly into a circle pit @ a festival once. Painfully hilarious or was that Hilariously painful.
Going in the opposite direction is always fun.
Also circle pits on wet stainless steel floors are fucking brutal.

Lamb of God were attempting to get a wall of death happening as they always do for the song Black Label @ Soundwave, but the crowd was too retarded to get it right.
Brutal circle pits are cool but walls of death & X's are way better.

This thread is as good as any to post the following joke.

"I stayed at an upscale hotel recently and I couldn't get the porn channel to
work, so I called down to the desk.
I asked the lady, "Is your porn channel disabled?"

She said, "No, it's just regular porn, you sick bastard" and hung up on me."
