USA Fender Strat '83...whats it worth??

hey guys looking at buying a 1983 black USA Fender strat off someone (serial number around the E 300,XXX mark) and wanted to know roughly what would be the resale value is one of these. just so that i know if its worth buying for the price i am being offered.

purely looking at buying for investment purposes, if it prooves to be a good buy (and is in very good condition).

Don't quote me on this, but I don't think that era of Fender is very good.  Fender, at the time, was owned by a company called CBS...which was really into cost cutting the instruments.
If you want an investment Fender, then get yourself something pre-1965 ;)

I had a quick look on ebay, and nothing there was really over the $1200 mark of that era, apart from one which seemed to be a pretty rare, high end model.

I still stand by Fender's being lame... just because old school rock stars played with them, it doesn't make them great... they didn't have the choice of today's more diverse and appealing range of guitars and designs... and 24-fret boards.
